Great for what it is, could be better but would cost more

Interesting piece, though on the lower end of the Black Series quality spectrum; great detailing throughout and nice chromed finish on faceplate, but the two-part design (front and back) gives it large noticeable seams, particularly on the battery pack cover located high on the forehead. Voice changer is far too powerful for its own good, causing garble and echo, but installing foam or other sound insulation drasticly improves its effectiveness. Tone changer functions well and is a worthwhile feature which allows for use by almost anyone. I removed the inch-or-two-thick interior forehead compartment containing the electronics, which gave enough room for my larger head to fit in at the proper depth. Smaller than some other brands' Kylo Ren full helmets, but I easily made it work using only a screwdriver. I like this helmet a lot for what it is and what it costs; ANOVOS' top-quality single-piece full helmet (without electronics) pre-order costs $700, and this version would be easy to make visually comparable through simple modification involving filling seams, replacement of distorted stock plastic lens, custom weathering/paint job, and a helmet liner or other padding. Not bad at all for close to MSRP. (Mine shipped from Amazon without additional packaging and with stickers placed directly on the collectible box, but customer service made it up to me.)

Can't see s*** cap'n, but I look cool!
by Kate (5 out of 5 stars)

Gotta be real with you, I'm pretty sure half the reason why Kylo Ren is such a grump is because he can't see anything while wearing the helmet. You know why he's always slightly hunched over, the mask tipped slightly forward like he's glaring? Because that's the only way you can see anything in front of you while wearing this thing. I truly understand the plight of the buggy horse after wearing this thing for a weekend at a convention.

That being said, it's a really solid helmet! I haven't actually put batteries in it to test out the voice changer function, but that's because I'm too cheap to buy batteries (she says, after dropping almost $80 on a helmet...). The super matte paint job the helmet comes with is a little silly looking, so if you want to look really screen accurate you'll need to repaint it. Be as gentle as you possibly can with the chrome portion around the visor, as even blue painter's tape will take it off in places if you use a roll with too strong an adhesion rating. I gave mine a coat of black gloss spray, a rub-down with silver rub'n buff, a matte black wash over the top to cut the shine, and a couple of touch-ups of the battle damage after the wash was finished. If you want to use this for a 501st kit you'll have to fill the seam lines where you latch the front and back of the helmet together etc, but if that isn't your main concern (it certainly isn't mine, since the helmet popping apart has saved it from being smashed to bits when I took a couple of nasty falls during a convention) then the seams are barely noticeable anyway. Especially if you have a super cool Sith cloak to hide them under.

But that can easily be joined and repainted

Short of getting the Anovos helmet this is the most proximal version of the helmet you can get in terms of screen accuracy. If you are looking forward to a voice changer, you aren't getting one out of this. It's distorted and honestly not worth the time to mod that much hardware. The helmet itself is overall a nine out of ten...the real issue for this peice is the seem. But that can easily be joined and repainted. There is a molded plastic look on some of the mouth plates. I know some people are even modding this element for accuracy as well. Over all:

Detail: about an 8

Material: again about an 8

Durability: 10 ( once seam is fully joined)

Screen accuracy: 7.9 , can be a 9 with minimal effort and one day off.

How does it stack up against alternatives?

The rubies helmet...comedically big which is funny since typically their buckets are too small.

Disney store voice changer: it has a full backing.

Anovos: it is much cheaper to mod this helmet with pride and still only be out 200 by the end instead of spending 600

Poor Build and Terrible Voice Changer
by Joshua H. (1 out of 5 stars)

The plastic build is poor quality. The paint job was done well, but the front and back pieces don't fit together well. The voice changer is trrrible. Not only does it reverb in your brain, what you say is barely comprehensible. If you're too loud it begins to echo like crazy. I've tried whispering and it still sounds terrible. I took the mask off and spoke into it from about 6 inches and it sounds much better. The microphone is too sensitive and doesn't do the job well at all.

The controls for the voice modulation were easy to access with my full costume on including gloves

I bought this for cosplay at a convention. The helmet straps as they came in the box were just the right size however, there's a plastic nose piece that supposedly is supposed to rest on the bridge of your nose. I found that I had to cut that piece off cause the only way I could see out of the visor was if I squished my nose with the nose piece. The controls for the voice modulation were easy to access with my full costume on including gloves. It was easily one of the most realistic helmets at that convention.

This is pretty cool. I go this with the intention of modding it but as it stands out of the box its pretty cool. Once you adjust the head strap for you it's reasonably comfortable. The buttons for activating the voice modulator are low profile so they don't take away from the over all esthetic. It looks great, especially from a distance. Though the voice modulator is pretty s***ty, you can adjust the pitch on it but it's just really garbled noise. As well there is not foam around the speaker so your breath is easily picked up and the way the speaker is mounted anything that touches the helmet or even the sound from the speaker is picked up and creates extra noises that only further degrades the sound quality. I would recommend modifying this. Otherwise its pretty awesome for the price.

Great helmet, throw out the microphone stuff.
by V (4 out of 5 stars)

My headline sums it up. It looks great and fits great. I wish it didn't have any of the mic stuff because it all needs to be taken out and thrown away anyway.

In order to have the speaker loud enough that anyone can head the amplified voice over your own voice, the speaker needs to be turned way up. The speaker in the helmet vibrates the frame of the helmet and the mic picks up the vibration. You end up with a deafening echo chamber giving feedback into the mic.

I took the mic equipment out and bought a separate mic and voice changer and it works perfectly (unfortunately cost me an extra $80 that I didn't think I'd have to spend). The benefit, without the batteries and mic equipment the helmet fits more comfortably and is noticeably lighter.

Great helmet!

Bought this for my 15 year old daughter, who is a major Kylo Ren fan. She will be performing several Star Wars themed songs on her guitar for open mic in a couple of months, so I bought her the entire outfit with the helmet.

The Fit is perfect! The helmet comes in 3 parts: Front, Back, interior adjustment straps. The instructions are very easy to follow, and the helmet is simple to put together once the adjustments are made.

Voice Changer: Just like others who commented, it has its problems. I have a voice changer helmet for Optimus Prime and Batman. The voice changer for this Kylo Ren isn't as good as those, even though this costs twice as much. However, the quality is superior and the look is absolutely perfect match to the movie. Some people suggest other methods to improve the sound, but this is for a 15 year old having fun in a band. When she isn't playing open mic, it will sit on a shelf. It's perfect for us.

Delivery: We received it about a week earlier than expected!

Nice mask but has it's flaws
by D. Smith (4 out of 5 stars)
March 4, 2018

Looks nice, but not 100% accurate for the really picky types. The voice changer was not great and required a lot personal modification to get it to sound better. The odd thing is that the voice changer is made and positioned for a child, but the mask fits an small to medium sized adult head. There were also minor paint defects on the chrome portion of the mask. Visor looks great from some angles, but not if you can see the wearer's eyes through it. Conclusion is that it's a great for someone that wants a nice Kylo Ren mask for display or a decent costume, but not if you want a 501st approved movie accurate mask.

I'll Show You The Dark Side!
by Ryan Alcott (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this mask. I'm an adult and I bought it for myself. Yes, the voice changer isn't the best. Why you might ask? It's made for kids who have a higher voice pitch, so it's not really meant for an adult male. I did follow some suggestions online to make it better though, just search Google and you'll find a lot of tweaks. All in all I love it and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quality Kylo Ren mask. Again, the voice changer isn't meant for adults, so if that's the sole reason you're buying it you will be disappointed. However, everything else about this product is great!
