Product Description

Ask any outdoors man what's the most important element of surviving the wilderness, and odds are, he'll say redundancy in all things - if one tool fails, it's essential to always have some sort of backup (and maybe even a backup for your backup). And that's exactly what makes Flint Laces so vital: they give you an alternative means of making fire for when your matches get wet and your lighter won't spark.

New Design Features:
+Slimmer diameter Ferro tips fit in wide range of hiking boots, hunting boots, tactical boots and more
+Each pair comes with (2) serrated striker knives designed for maximum spark production, and tinder shaving
+Quick access flints - No need to cut your laces
+Minimalist - Everything you need to keep your boots tied and start a fire, nothing more
+Ideal for anyone that ventures into the back country or likes to be prepared for anything
+Inspired by celebrity survivalists

Note: Fire Making with these tools is the same as using any other flint and steel system. Starting a fire with them is a skill and should be researched and practiced to proficiency. Striker knives are sharp and should be handled with caution.

Not bad if you are okay with just carrying the strike-plate, instead of lacing it into the shoe.

These are a really great concept, but as it turns out, not very well executed.

They do work to make a spark, but the flint covers don't tend to stick around for long, I lost mine within about a week of average walking around. And the intended method of securing the strike-plate in the laces (as per the instructions) resulted in the strike-plate sawing through the laces as I walked (within a month of purchase).

Love the new 2
by Bryan Fuller (5 out of 5 stars)

I found these on Uncrate about 4 months ago and bought 2 pairs as presents for my buddies. I just bought new hunting boots and had to buy a pair of them for myself. Love the new 2.0 version with the striker plate. Edge of the plate is serrated sharp and could easily cut into a flexible boot. Only issue is the rubber caps over the flint fall off so easy, however this isn't anything that a little electrical tape can't fix.

but the actual laces are not very good. They are way too slippery for boot laces ...

Novel idea, but the actual laces are not very good. They are way too slippery for boot laces so they untie very easily, and the after less than a week of use, the outer core wore away, and you could see the inner strands. Very cheaps laces. Honestly, I wish they just allowed you to buy the ends, and could put them on real laces.

The backup of the backup of the backup

Ok, honestly, I've never actually *USED* these... they're merely on my boots. I believe in backups. I have backups of backups of backups. This is just the last line. If things go the way I plan, I will never use these. However, if things *DON'T* go right... well, then... I've got these!! :D

Impressive

Great and very useful product. I'm disappointed that they don't come in 54" as the previous version did. I ordered the 63" but they were too long. The simple solution was to wrap the lace around the striker plate twice, but this still left me with a little too much.

Great addition to emergency go bags too

I only ordered one for the most experienced camper in the family and she gives it 2 thumbs up.

Now that we have tested this product, I will probably get wish lists with the flint laces on it and will end up

ordering a few more.

Great addition to emergency go bags too.

Check your lace hole size.
by Mikel D. (4 out of 5 stars)

Would be 5 stars if they were actually small enough to fit in most shoes/boots lace holes. I'm going to have to find a new pair of boots that they will fit in.

What a Tie Breaker!
by Mash Pratai (5 out of 5 stars)

I own several pairs of Red Wing boots. And I tend to go through laces fairly quickly.

This, so far after several months of owning them (As of this review) have held up better than the replacement laces I get from Red Wing.

Great laces!
by Osirus (4 out of 5 stars)

I like the length and the capability of starting a fire almost anywhere but I'm having difficulty keeping these laces tied even with a double knot. I feel that this minor inconvenience is worth the added capability in this case.
