Refer to the last page of the instructions where it says the instructions are not that good. There is a link to a YouTube video that details how to assemble this item. After I completely failed at assembly of the globe this item is basically a bad lamp. They should have a sticker on the box that has the link to the video. This is the worst item I ever purchased on Amazon. I wasted an evening on this item and failed miserably. And after failing they tell you that the instructions suck and use the video. Never buy this item!!!
I ordered this in 2016 and remembered how bad this product was

My friend and I spent a night trying to put this together- the instructions were different from the product, they were inconsistent, and just plain wrong at some points. It was such a painstaking process- the final product wasn't even worth it- a very dim light that barely worked. I just recently threw this away while cleaning out my things and thought I'd share my thoughts- I absolutely hated this thing.

The product does work, but please note, this is a science project, not a toy. You have to assemble everything. Battery wiring, screws, battery pack, nothing is put together. I almost called MIT to ask them if they could help me with it. Don't think you're going to be doing anything else for a solid hour when putting this together. And the star map assembly involves glue strips and scissors (not included). This was pretty much the worst thing to happen to me in months. Maybe years. Spend 50 bucks and buy one that is assembled. This will break you.

Did not know I was going to have to put it together so it's still sitting there as is.
