I don't think there's a better entry level full sized QuadCopter.
by Kyle Trail (4 out of 5 stars)
January 6, 2016

This is my first Quadcopter/Drone. So far, I'm really impressed.

Out of the box, you'll have to install the propeller guards and the landing gear, but it's super quick. This thing comes with everything you need to get going right in the box. I'd suggest some additional batteries and maybe another/larger SD card, but it's locked and loaded from the get go. Even had a fully charged battery loaded in the copter. Yeah, the battery door/camera thing is a little tricky, but just pay attention people.

I haven't had a chance to really open her up in the wild yet, but in my preliminary flights, it handles really well. Be prepared to follow the instructions and to use the "Trim" settings to even things out some before you really fly. But, after that, it's on and it's fun. I was flying (for my first time on any device) within 10 minutes of assembly.

The build is really nothing to complain about. I don't know where else you could find something with this good a build for this money. Its light and it's plastic...as to be expected. The camera works quite well in my opinion and I wish I could control panning and tilting, but I have enough on my hands just flying to begin with.

I'm going to get after it quite a bit this coming weekend and I'll be amending this review with some images/video of it and shot from it. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 02/01/2016

Okay, so I had some time (and decent weather) to fly this puppy on Saturday. It's nice! Of course, there was still wind blowing North at a pretty good click, but I have to say it flew quite well.

One big big note... This camera is NOT HD!!! I'm letting everyone know that loud and clear as it IS advertised as such. I didn't really expect it to be for this price though. So, I took a star off the review for that false advertising. The camera kinda just sucks too. I will probably use it plenty more, but it's just low low low grade folks.

I've attached a video I made of the small amounts of footage that were discernible.

Other than that, I cannot wait to fly it some more again soon. C'mon Spring!

Good starter drone.

I've been interested in drones for a while, especially camera/video drones but since I had never flown one I didn't want to spend a lot of money on one just to destroy it while learning to operate it so I went with a lower priced one, while I've only flown it twice outside due to the weather conditions it has survived an encounter with the bumper of a parked car as well as several other hard landings, so I can safely say this is a good drone for a beginner.

Basic Beginner Drone with Some Difficulties
by Breezy (2 out of 5 stars)
July 21, 2018

I honestly only recommend this drone for beginners trying to learn how to use a drone before getting an expensive one and accidentally crashing it without knowing how to use it.

To get to the battery compartment is a huge pain, with the screws being so tiny that they're hard to unscrew and re-screw in. Makes me not want to use it.

Another struggle is with one of the blade protectors, which does not like to stay on properly without having to be adjusted each time after done flying. It's extremely cheaply made in my opinion.

While I see that some people have had positive results with the fly time available, the drone barely lasted 5 minutes of flight, and this was tested multiple times.

I will say that the SD card slot is very accessible, which honestly surprises me considering how difficult it is to get to anything else in the drone.

For a beginner, this is a great drone; otherwise, I would not recommend it. It is difficult to even get int the battery compartment, the blade protectors may be flimsy and pretty much useless, and does not fly a very long time. I would buy this for use for responsible beginners, and that's about it.

Can't be beat for a bargain deal an a ton of fun!

WOW! I have has several small remote control helicopters! that cost as much as $40-$50. but this little Quad blows them away. I have never had so much fun with a flying R.C. as I have with this! the instructions and remote are easy to learn. after I figured out that the most important step is to turn on the drone and remote with the drone sitting on the most level surface possible "It has a self calibrating and gyroscope." By my third flight it felt as if I had almost mastered the controls, The average battery ran from 7.5 minutes on the first flight using the video capture the whole time. to over 10 minutes only taking a few snap shots. The camera is mounted on the battery door and is done so in such a way that with the removal of a few screws and simply unplugging the lead you could fly without the extra weight of the camera if wanted. The trick mode is awesome, bump the trick button and flip the control stick in any direction and the Quadrcopter will do a barrel roll/360 degree flip in that/any direction. before ordering I did lots of research and for my first this has far exceeded my expectations especially for the price. when I ordered I also ordered a repair kit for all the landing gear, bumper gear. props. motors, and gearboxes for less than $10.00, I also ordered a 4-battery and charger kit. for less than $18.00 so for less than $80.00 I have an awesome toy great for an afternoon of entertainment! also was able to install a video player through the Google App store and plug the micro S.D. card directly into my smart phone and watch the video instantly in the field !!

Recommended for all beginners, easy to learn quadcopter
by Karen Timpanaro (4 out of 5 stars)

So far, so good. We've only been using this 2 days so far. I will continue to update in the future if we experience any changes or further problems, not mentioned in this review. This was a gift for our 12 year old son for Christmas. He loves it. I would recommend that if this is purchased for a child, that you have an adult start helping him/her out at first, until they get the hang of it on their own.
1.) Price: worth every penny that we spent. List price is $99.99 and we purchased it for 1/2 that price.
2.) Items included: Quadcopter and a controller (simple assembly required), a battery, a memory card for the camera, a USB card reader to view your videos with a USB card, replacement blades, and even a tiny screwdriver.
3.) Quadcopter: Great for beginners. Easy to follow instructions and easy to learn controller. My think my son already mastered the controller, including the flip / loop function. It is super stable, he loves to throw it air to start his own launch. It has landed on our roof a couple of times upside down, when it lands this way -- it cannot fly, so we had to get it out down from there). He has managed to keep his distance from getting it stuck in any trees (keeping our fingers crossed).
4.) Battery: The battery it comes with has already been charged. Otherwise it takes 90 minutes to charge, and lasts is supposed to last 7 minutes of fly time. However, it probably lasts about 10 minutes of fly time. We will be purchasing another battery as a backup, that allows to fly it twice as long.
5.) Camera: We still have yet to figure out the camera; we tried to record and view video but it says: "No items to display." We are not sure what we are doing wrong or if we just have a bad USB card, a non-working camera, etc. I will keep you posted.

Overall, I recommend the AKASO Quadcopter Drone.

Felt like a kid again

When I was younger I remember getting a helicopter for christmas that was attached to a line and would go in circles. This quadcopter brings back all those memories. Thank you Akaso. This was so much fun, I bought 2 more for my nephews. Do not make a mistake like me and have to wait on the one battery to charge, make sure you buy more battery's when ordering this, because battery life is around 5 to 7 minutes. I just ordered 8 more battery's and a multi charger. I have never flown a drone before and it was fairly easy to pick up on the do's and don'ts. So far it has not failed me, I have run this into trees, bushes, side of house, and it still keeps going. With the blade guards on it, it is tuff. If you want more battery life, do not use the camera. I just took it off. I would say it is a great beginners quadcopter. Don't fly without blade guards though, I found out the hard way when i flew it into my hand. Those blades hurt!!! I was hard headed and did not read the instructions first. Read the instructions.

Great Drone! Tons of Fun!
by Max (4 out of 5 stars)

Been flying this little guy for over a year now. DEFINITELY worth the price. I purchased extra batteries and a charger from an RC hobby store and have learned advanced tricks like triple flips and forced bank turns. Ive crashed the shit out of this little drone. Once full tilt into my truck, another time i got it caught 30 ft up in a tree and after i shook it out and let it fall to the ground it took off and flew without wvwn needing trim adjustment. Only problem ive had was the little blade guards would sometimes rub the rotors during advanced maneuvers. A little bending by hand seemes to solve the problem twmporarily but i used my heat gun to softwn the plastic and permanently reshape them. I also (covering the vent holes wigh tape) spray painted half of the drone fluorescent orange so I can see the orientation better at distance. "EZ mode" does not work at all and is a great way to lose control of your drone. Every time the drone gets low on battery the "EZ mode" fomes on autmatically. Be quick and toggle it back off using the button and youll be good to go. I never used the camera and took it of immediately. I'd assume it produces a shaky low resolution image and really isnt worth the time to use.

Lot's of fun for the newbie

I bought this as a Christmas present for my ten year old son. Christmas came early this year so we spent the day playing with it, or maybe I should say about an hour and a half. I bought four extra batteries so we have a total of five. The charge on the battery lasts about 15 minutes which drops to less than ten if you're recording video the whole time. It took less than five minutes to learn how to control on a breezy day. You'll definitely want to have a wide open area when you're first learning it though. Be sure to set the trims properly for the most enjoyment when flying. He absolutely enjoyed flying the thing and taking video....even more-so than his new Redcat Racing Blackout XTE RC truck. He's already talking about upgrading to a better drone, but this one is great for learning.

Pros:
-Easy enough for a ten year old to learn in under five minutes.
-Decent video, not the best quality but still enjoyable to watch.
-Somewhat durable, survived a few crash landings.
-Comes with two spare blades.

A few cons to note:
-The battery door is flimsy and keeps wanting to open.
-We lost one of the green covers for the light. But it survive a few crash landings from a height of about fifteen feet. A few spares should be thrown in with the packaging.

All in all he's happy, so I'm happy.

Worst Quadcopter When Compared to Syma and Striker
by MacInAction (1 out of 5 stars)
June 14, 2016

Initially, things seemed fine. There seemed to be no problems on the first few flights, but things quickly changed, despite no crashes. This quadcopter seems to have 'bugs' that make it extremely difficult to fly. I've now flown four different entry level models (one red/white Striker, three green Strikers, one Syma X5C-1, and one Akaso), and this one is, by far, the most difficult to control due to erratic behavior.

It has a habit of slowly spinning when flying, and the trim doesn't correct it properly. Sometimes it spins, sometimes it doesn't. Because of this, it cannot be flown very high. Sometimes the drone continues to move in one direction after the controller has been moved the opposite way!! Windsurfing at heights is impossible due to the lack of control.

I've also experienced loss of control for no reason within 50 yards of the transmitter. It will do this repeatedly with different batteries. Once it drops, it usually doesn't respond to any movement of the controller. It also has a habit of falling upside down, depending on the speed and angle when control is lost.

The green Strikers are easier to fly, and they respond MUCH better than the Akaso. The Strikers also tend to lose control breifly from time to time, but they can be corrected by quickly throttling off and back on. I don't expect perfection from a low-priced quadcopter, but the quality control falls short for my latest addition.

Some reviewers obviously had better luck, but my purchase did not perform as expected. I would NOT purchase this model again based on my previous experience with competing models.

The new X5C-1 can now be purchased for under $30 through some online vendors, and it is a much better, reliable quad that will not disappoint!

I am so happy with this purchase
by Fancy (5 out of 5 stars)

I am so happy with this purchase. I have never flown a quad before, so I wanted to try one out but didn't want to pay a ton of money to do it. I am very impressed with this quad. I have no idea how they can charge so little to give you this nice of a product, plus a controller. Syncing the controller to the quad can be a little finicky at times, but all you have to do is power cycle it a couple times and normally you're fine. Also, be sure to turn the quad on while it is perfectly level. I did not do this the first time and had no idea why it wouldn't fly straight. When you turn it on, it calibrates the board and if its anything other than level, it wont fly right. The camera isnt perfect, but the video quality isn't bad either. I had a lot of fun flying it pretty high and doing some 360 turns to looks at the terrain. Overall flight time is around 8 minutes- which isn't a ton. I would recommend getting a spare set of batteries because the recharge takes about an hour and a half. I am very happy with this purchase and would buy another one in a second.
