Cheap cheap cheap

This is not like the old original pictionary. Everything about it screams cheap from the flimsy white boards which are thin cardboard, to the thin markers(which, btw do not fully erase without washing the board down) to the game board which is about 1/4 the size of the original.

Fun to play, but the markers are difficult to erase

WHY I BOUGHT IT:

I am not a native English speaker and I was looking for a game that would allow me and my friends to have fun while learning new words.

RULES:

The rules of the game are pretty simple, also for kids. Unfortunately, you can have just two teams; each team moves a pencil player piece across the board by rolling a dice and guessing what the team "picturist" is drawing in a given amount of time (an hourglass is provided).

There are two special squares: one where the "picturist" can choose the category of the word to draw, and another one where the two "picturists" sketch the same word simultaneously.

CARDS:

The box contains 120 adult cards and 80 cards for kids. As a non-native English speaker, I prefer to play with the cards for kids, as the ones for adults contain some very abstract words that are difficult to guess. I wish they added more cards: if you play the game often, you will end up remembering some of the words, especially if you only play with the cards for kids.

DRAWING BOARDS:

I bought this version of the game mostly because of the drawing boards, as I don't like to waste tons of paper to play the game. Unfortunately, the boards are pretty small (4" x 6") and the markers need to be erased using a wet cloth, which makes things messy: if you are playing with kids, their hands will be full of ink by the end of the game. Also, it's difficult to completely erase the markers even with a wet cloth.

I ended up buying two dry erase boards (one is not enough because of the special squares where the two "picturists" need to draw at the same time).

BOTTOM LINE:

The game is fun to play for both adults and kids, I just wish they had included dry erase boards and a few more cards.

Doesn't live up to the original

Anyone who longs for the good old days of the original Pictionary will be disappointed by this cheap-feeling update. I was excited at first about the dry erase boards- but they are tiny and need to be wiped with a wet cloth. Messy and incovenient. It does come with a set of kids cards which is its only saving grace.

This was hands down the cheapest ( in quality ), overpriced rip off, that I have ever made anywhere and especially on Amazon. Unfortunately we didn't get to play the game until one day after the return date so we can't even return it. I am going to burn it and send the ashes to Mattel with a nasty letter. The original game was fun but leave it to some millennial working for a company that doesn't give a rip about their customers to screw things up. Pathetic !

Different than the original, and I'm not sure if I like having to erase the markers provided with a wet towel... will need to replace them with dry erase when they dry out.

Its still a fun game to play with your kids.

Messy erasable boards

Erasable boards are very messy and this kit doesn't include a sponge/cloth for cleaning. We ended up using a whole bunch of paper towels which left our fingers dirty with black marker ink. Not very sightly and took multiple hand washes to partially remove the ink. The playing board is very tiny also. Not crazy about this new version at all.

Both adult and junior game in one

My 5 year old loved plying junior Pictionary t her grandparents house so we decided to get her one for herself. The adult and junior Pictionary is all in one game now. There are different directions when you are playing an adult and vs a junior game. He erasable boards are bit of a pain since u need a wet napkin to wipe it clean. We just stuck to using paper and crayons.

Played two rounds last night with our 8- and 9-year-old-- SO FUN. We played using only the kids' cards, and most were easy enough that the kids could draw and guess them without adult help. A few words/phrases were tougher, but that's what makes it fun, AND ensures longevity as the kids age. The dry-erase boards are small-ish but sufficient, the makers were great. A quick read-through of the instructions explained everything just fine. After two rounds we still had lots of cards left over, and with five words per side of each card, I'm hopeful we won't see too many repeats. Our children (avid board game players) have declared this their new favorite game. I agree...

Not as good as the original version

This is a pathetic cash grab at the brand of what pictionary once was. The quality of the pieces, dice, and board are laughable. The drawing suggestions are also of a low quality compared to the original game's list of suggestions. I would pass on purchasing this if you are looking for a pictionary game similar to the original board game. You can make one on your own better than this.

A BIG Fan For Decades

Pictionary is a class game that friends and family of mine have enjoyed for many years. This review is more about this version then the game itself. The game is definitely 5 star but this version gets 4. What I do like is the reusable drawing pad idea and the cards that allow children to enjoy the game. The box layout is nice, giving everything a spot to fit in. The pencil player pieces are a clever touch (give that designer a raise).

Now for what I'm not impressed with. The drawing cards are 6" x 4" which is too small (the box is 10.25" square so room is not an issue) and they are made from cheap cardboard with a shiny finish making it difficult to wipe clean and it never really gets 100%. Would two dry erase boards cost too much to include? I don't think so. There are two sets a of cards, one for adults and one for juniors. There are 120 adult cards and 80 for kids (my original Pictionary has 500 cards). Why so few cards? Is there a shortage of paper? The board is smaller (15.5" by 5.5") which is fine but now you can only have 2 teams instead of the 4. I guess you can make 4 but you'll have to add paper, pencils and two more player pieces.

As a family man I do like the fact my kids can now play. We've only come across 2 topics my 7 years old did not understand. They love playing this game and they both enjoy drawing so it's a win win. (Note to editor: tambourine is not spelled "tambournie")

Overall this version of Pictionary is not an improvement. I suggest finding yourself a copy of the original (still sold here on Amazon) and start playing a great game.
