Excellent tool - part of my permanent backpack kit
by Private Citizen (5 out of 5 stars)

Great tool - very lightweight but very sturdy (both are very important to me) - I intentionally "overworked it" to see if it would be damaged, but it was not, not in the slightest. Very pleased - this shovel is now part of my permanent backpack kit.

Great tool, crappy carriers.
by BeGe (4 out of 5 stars)

I have very little complaint about the tool itself. I've cut down trees with the thing already and you can hardly tell it's even used...it works.

The extra extension piece is more of a hindrance than anything. Extra weight and unscrews too easily during usage. But that's ok because you can just discard it and put the end cap directly into the handle, so that's fine.

My main complaint (and the reason for loss of a star) is the carriers. It is specifically advertised as MOLLE. Well...apparently they don't know how MOLLE works...because that's not MOLLE. It's just connecting straps with velcro all the way down. Which means you can thread one side through MOLLE loops, but good luck with the other side, because it'll be velcro on velcro contact the whole way through. I tried inserting a medium between them so that I could thread and then remove that medium and then the velcro would adhere...but the straps are also a little too wide, so by the time you've got one strap in and the medium in good luck getting the other strap in too...it's just too wide. If I spent a few hours really going at it with all the tools at my disposal I could probably get it attached...but honestly that defeats the purpose of MOLLE...I might as well just sew it on. So that's not MOLLE capable in my book.

TL;DR:

Tool is solid. Use without the extension part of the tube for best results. The carriers suck because of lack of MOLLE capability (even though advertised as MOLLE).

Very disappointed with this product

Chopped a few small trees, around 1 inch in diameter and the blade of the shovel cracked down the middle. Very disappointed with this product.

Shovel quality is very low
by Ruslan (1 out of 5 stars)
August 7, 2018

Recently I bought this shovel.

I took a shovel on the beach, play with the kids.

And after 4 days the iron part of the shovel exploded in half.

I dug only the sand, I do not understand why the iron in this shovel is of low quality. I am very disappointed and will demand a refund or replacement

Could be better
by matt l (3 out of 5 stars)

Pros:

Perfect size and weight for packing out.

The head holds up to a lot of abuse and I am still able to chop wood as well as I expected to with it.

The saw edge of the head will work to saw through wood if you really need it too.

Cons:

The rubberized handle DOES NOT hold up well.

The handle segments come loose while using the shovel.

The tools stored in the handle are redundant.

The shovel head could be slightly larger.

The main improvement should be the handle. It does not hold up the work that the tool was advertised to do. Get rid of the rubberized grips all together. Use tighter threads for the attachment points so they don't come loose. I will probably make my own handle since I do like the head.

This is quality!

I have to admit that I was extremely hesitant with the price point of this shovel. I was looking for a lightweight shovel that would have multiple uses for me to take on long camping trips. This shovel is an extremely high quality with many more uses than I expected. This shovel should last me for a very long time.

Thanks so much for this product!

A gift WIN!
by MarieW (5 out of 5 stars)

Big HIT with the hubby - loves all the features, one of those gifts that he wouldn't buy himself (he's thrifty?) but for the doomsday prepper, boy scout always be prepared type like my hubs, this was perfect - like a kid with a new toy, his face lit up especially after inspection and seeing that good quality and all the tools. He's tough to buy for and I'm so glad I stumbled on this recommendation.

Well built and great multi-purpose shovel
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)
March 15, 2017

So far this multi-use shovel is an awesome bang for the buck. The multi-position for the shovel is great. I read a review before I bought it that the shovel didn't lock in the hoe or grapple position which isn't true, you just un-screw it and move the head and screw it tight into place. The edges and saw on the shovel are sharp and work great on smaller stuff, I've chopped and sawed some stuff and gave it some pretty good whacks and it stayed in place and didn't come unscrewed or bend. The tactical knife was sharp and the saw on the other side cuts great. The whistle was reassuringly loud and the mag rod shaves easily. The only reason why I don't give the shovel 5 stars is what's the point of having a magnesium rod if it doesn't come with a sparkler. That being said you can easily purchase a small one and stuff it in one of the sections of tube, but who wants to purchase more stuff when it can all be in one. Other than that the shovel is a great buy.

I think it's such a good enough piece of kit that this and a leatherman ...
by Ben Claydon (5 out of 5 stars)
April 14, 2017

I was very surprised with the solid construction of tool. If you're thinking that the hollow and threaded handle looks weak then put that out of your mind. This is a really solid piece of kit. But it's too small to be called a shovel, it's about 10-15% smaller than a regular trenching tool. The shovel head is actually thicker than a trenching tool, so that gives you an idea of the strength and thickness of the construction. Open your hand and spread your fingers and your hand is larger than the shovel head. The strength of the hollow/threaded handle is overkill for the amount of leverage you'll get from the length of the handle. It's big enough to dig a latrine, dig out a stuck wheel, or dig a rain trench around the tent, but I wouldn't want to have to dig a foxhole with it. However, I think it's such a good enough piece of kit that this and a leatherman are the only emergency tools I'll need in the truck. Definitely light enough to take backpacking and can replace a hatchet, but you'll want a hatchet when weight is not an issue. I'm going to put the assembled tool with just the blade protector in the truck and toss the carrying case with strap. Five stars!

Why sell together if not compatible?

I bought this shovel kit with the extension kit as well and they are not compatible, why say other shoppers bought these items if you can't use them together?
