hot drinks cool quite rapidly
by Annamarie Lubow (1 out of 5 stars)

This is not a thermal mug, hot drinks cool quite rapidly. It does hold cold drinks and they stay cool for a while.

Product failed within 60 days. It's now a dribble mug. I contacted Goat Story and was told that since they didn't sell me the mug they would not fix it. They offered me a 10% discount on another mug, only through their website, and a "not my problem" explanation. I will no longer recommend this mug to any of my re-enactment or cosplay friends. Too bad, it was an interesting concept.

This mug is awesome! It's really well constructed

This mug is awesome! It's really well constructed, very sturdy and a lot more balanced than anticipated. My fiance kept trying to lightly tip it over while sitting in the stand and it resisted surprisingly well. One issue I did notice is that it's not 100% leak-proof, when it's moving around like when you're wearing it over your shoulder, some liquid does come out but it's not a huge amount. I would venture to say its' about 95% leak-proof. One downside is that whatever hot beverage you're drinking does not stay hot for long so I docked a star. That may just be me though, I've been spoiled with my yeti mug that keeps things hot for like 5 hours. Overall, I would definitely recommend this mug.

READ THIS BE4 ORDERING
by D (2 out of 5 stars)
January 10, 2018

Before ordering, READ THIS

I've been expecting ever since I put the order down and now I sit here giving it two stars and I'll tell you why.

Appearance wise, excellent looking.

The first impression it came to me as it is very slippery plastic hands on, and after a second the leather holder fell off.

Then I started cleaning it and cleanse it with hot water, I realized that THERES NO WAY TO HOLD IT WITH HOT WATER IN IT. You can only hold the cap part to avoid being burnt by the temperature as shown in the photo.

The way it looked on the advertising was so nice, people just hang it on the bag to commute. Looking dreamy and all. NO, THATS NOT HOW IT LOOKS LIKE. You see, I've mentioned that the leather holder fell off when I touched it for the first time, how could you let it stay on the mug when you are walking around or on transit?

Not to mention the leather strap is not trust worthy with its buckle, a light force could have it open and you will lose your $30 mug! The hook on the strap, see photo, imagine you have to deal with that hook everyday to take it off and on to clean your mug, too much effort!

Last but not least, the leather holder, its leather on the outside, very nice material. BUT ABS on the inside, NOT FLEXIBLE AT ALL, I used so much force on one hand and still couldn't squeeze it. I know its for the purpose of let mug stand on holder but with no flexibility at all, it couldnt stay on the mug neither!

I think i need to write this because I've been wanting this mug for 2 years now and every time I look at it, it amazes me with the design. But hand's on experience isn't what I've been expecting to see.

Product returned.

Conclusion:
1. Leather Holder too hard.
2. Hook too small and hard to disconnect
3. Strap buckle too loose
4. No insulation protection, therefore, heat directly goes to your hand
5. Potential to drop, lose the mug/holder while walking

Great concept, but the plastic cup is poor quality
by DL (1 out of 5 stars)

Great concept and marketing. Leather quality is good.

However, the plastic cup is way too cheaply made. It has absolutely no fine quality considering how much you are paying for this product.

I am very disappointed with this purchase.

For Adults
by Jason (5 out of 5 stars)

The precision molding and quality materials are just the beginning of how beautiful this mug is. If you don't fear other people's envious hipster shaming, make sure the sleeve is secure and handle this mug like an adult and not an undergrad student, you're going to love it. No issues with leaking because I read the instructions and seriously, who needs their coffee to be hot for two or three hours (by the way, coffee is only "fresh" for about thirty minutes after it's brewed)? I work hard, sleep little and chug coffee like a productive human being.

If you're an adult, want nicer and not more things that you'll care for...get it.

Love this tumbler but it does have a few issues...
by José AlHasan (3 out of 5 stars)

Okay I'm gonna be brutally honest. Let's get one thing out of the way, I absolutely love the design of this tumbler. Ever since I saw it online I've wanted it. It's very unique and always gets me compliments. I still love it, however, I have to be honest in this review so you the potential buyer will have best overall picture before deciding to buy it.

Like I said the design is absolutely beautiful and unique. The way in which you use the sleeve to keep it propped up is truly an eye catcher. The material however is just a think plastic which unfortunately does not preserve any heat and your warm beverages will turn cold very quickly.

The second issue is cleaning the tumbler. There are several points which seem to be quite difficult to clean. The deepest part of the cup, the nooks and crannies around the inner part of the lid as well as around the mouth piece are quite notorious and you really have get in there otherwise you'll always find small residues of coffee. Now I haven't tried putting it in the dish washer but I think it would affect this type of plastic in a really bad way since it doesn't seem to be very durable.I'll update this review if I do decide to put it in the dishwasher.

Despite these flaws I still do enjoy using this cup and I love the attention it brings along with it. I haven't used the sling that comes with it since I'm not too excited about the possibility of spilling hot coffee over me during the early hours of the morning.

If I had to give it a score out of ten rather than five, it would be 7/10.

Kinda Bummed
by Matt J. (3 out of 5 stars)

So after seeing them online for a few years, I decided to go ahead and order one. The horn shaped coffee mug. The mug with a little attitude. The mug that looks worthy of Viking song in the morning... a warning to those around you to steer clear until you've finished your horn 'less they be send to join their brethren on the shores of Valhalla.

So order I did... and when the mug I ordered via Amazon, that great oasis in the cloud from which I spend entirely too much of my hard earned currency, arrived... I was immediately uninspired.

Now, don't get me wrong. The fact that the mug is in the shape of a horn is very cool. And being as that I have been drunk off of mead sourced from a real horn, I understand the feats of thermal dynamics accomplished by this plastic instead of a genuine horn. I get it. Cool. But I ordered a mug with genuine leather wrap and straps. Well... the wrap "might" be leather, but the straps certainly are not.

When it comes to the straps, I expected something a little better than a cheaply made clip to attach to the mug, and cheaply made faux leather wrist strap with a button that doesn't stay buttoned when you try to attach your mug to your messenger bag to head to the office. I had the retrieve my emptied mug from the pavement twice. The first time I assumed maybe I didn't get the button snapped entirely... the second time, I realized I had. The button just sucks.

The wrap. It isn't. You cannot really tell from the pics and the videos, but it is a plastic stand that is wrapped partially in leather (leather like) substance and doesn't really stay on the mug when not being used as a stand. I picked it up separately when attempting to attach the mug to my satchel after a few steps. It just likes slipping off.

But my biggest disappointment came from the promise of "100% leakproof." It isn't. When I arrived at my office I promptly popped in to the break room and filled my bamboo tea mug with piping hot water for my normal morning cup, and then proceeded to make myself a cup of coffee to try my new mug. I poured in a little creamer and some honey into the bottom of my horn, then I poured in a generous amount of Pikes Blend (a local blend) and sealed the horn with the lid. It was here that I realized that perhaps the thermal dynamics of the plastic wasn't as great as I had thought, as I left the "wrap" on my desk. Once I arrived at my desk and put the mug in the wrap stand so I could attend to the 3rd degree burns on my hand from the poor insulation of the horn, I picked up said horn and put the wrap around it, and gave it the most gentle of shakes. I had ensured the lid was sealed and the flap on top was properly seated. This was not a violent shaking to stir the creamer and honey, this was a rather gentle shake as I wanted to see how the mug performed. It was then that I noticed being splashed with hot coffee. It was then that I noticed the lif covered in hot coffee. I wiped everything down, ensured it was tightly sealed, and shook again, to the same results. 100% leakproof must mean something entirely different where the Goat-Story folks are, but in my reality, being sprayed by hot coffee from a gentle shake is not leakproof.

I REALLY wanted to be impressed with the mug. I really did. I WANTED to like it. I love the look. I have for years. But sadly, I am not impressed at all. I'll keep it as a conversation piece, but I will use a cheap little $7 mug I picked up at the local supermarket that IS 100% leakproof from now on.

Sorry gang, this mug is not G.O.A.T.

Would Not Stand Up to Viking Usage
by Michael Teal (4 out of 5 stars)

Let's get something out of the way. If you're purchasing this item, you're probably not in the market for a practical method of beverage transportation. Instead, you, my somewhat hipstery, probably be-bearded, friend are looking to make your morning coffee taste a bit more like mead, and make your beard look over so slightly beard-ier.*

For me, this mug gets four stars. It is an interesting novelty, but it is not quite excellent. Here's why:

First, as others have noted, your coffee (or tea, or hot mead) will be cold by the time you finish enjoying it. Since the purpose of this novelty is to leave it out and have others see that you are a true Beard Warrior, having to refill the mug every 15 minutes is inconvenient.

Furthermore, the fit and finish of the product is not quite up to par, and here's two specific examples of why. The "horn" is simply textured white plastic. While nowhere does it say that this mug is anything else, I was hoping for a more smooth, horn-like finish. In addition, the smaller strap's snap popped off the first time I tried to open it, rendering the strap permanently useless (unless I epoxy it back together).

For the price (most I've paid for a mug), I really feel that all three of these issues should have been addressed. However, as I said at the beginning of the review, we're probably not really in it for the straps, nor the practicality of the device actually transporting a hot liquid for us. It is (still) a fun toy.
* - Enhanced beardiness and mead flavor not guaranteed. Your results may vary.

Difference in quality/manufacturing from originals to current models?
by Raleigh C. Barrett (3 out of 5 stars)
November 6, 2016

I backed these when they were on Kickstarter (or was it IndieGoGo, I can't recall), and I loved it, but that one was stolen and when I bought a new one, something about the manufacturing seems to have changed. This "newer" model tends to leak a little and the stand/sleeve does not stay attached to the mug at all, it just falls off to the point where I don't even use it anymore. In the older model, it tended to stay attached really well and required some force to remove it. I still like it, but I'm somewhat disappointed that the "newer" version seems to be of lower quality and function than the originals.

I'll be honest I wanted to love this mug
by Trevor Frederiksen (1 out of 5 stars)

I'll be honest I wanted to love this mug. It looks awesome, the strap seems like a great idea and it is but that's about where the good parts of this mug end.

It leaks, not reliably but the lid doesn't always close all the way and you get some coffee dribbles down the side, which wouldn't be the biggest issue but this mug is intended to be used on the go and not always sitting on a desk. On that note the lid feels cheap and plastic-y.

The body of the mug doesn't have the heft that I wanted it to have, and it doesn't keep your drinks cold at all. My coffee was cold by the time I got to work and I only have a ten minute drive.

I'm not going to knock the mug for not fitting in cup holders or anything like that because it's shaped like a goats horn, of course its not going to fit into cup holders. It's an awesome shape for a coffee mug but the features that you really need in a mug are lacking. Like the ability to keep drinks hot and to not leak out of the lid.

Overall awesome idea for a mug but it's lack luster on delivering.
