Good for Cat, Bad for Wallet
by Alex Kim (3 out of 5 stars)

My cat looooves cardboard scratchers, and a while ago i bought her the Petfusion Jumbo Cat Lounge and noticed that while she loves lounging on it, she spent most of the time scratching the vertical sides of the lounge. So, I looked into buying a vertical cardboard scratcher

This was easy to set up and the moment I got her to sink her claws into it, she became addicted. She tore through the top half of it in just a week! That's when I realized that this.. REALLY isn't worth the price.

The cardboard itself isn't a great quality and can be shredded through easily. Of course, I just flipped it vertically once the top half was worn through, but then what was the point of the curved end? And not only that, the curved end makes the back of it completely unusable unless you have a saw that can just cut it through. I don't doubt that this was on purpose, so that you'd have to buy a replacement instead of making use of both sides of the scratcher.

All that for $30? And not only that, she for some reason isn't enjoying the vertically flipped scratcher as much as it was in its original position. Maybe it's just cat stuff, but I also think it has to do with the quality of the cardboard as it curves.

I'd buy this again if it were $20 or less, but at the current price it's just not worth a re-purchase, even if my cat loves it to shreds (literally). Either fix the design so that it's not curved or lower the price.

Very disappointing
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

If the seller would have included the adhesive tabs required to mount the scratch post to the wall as it is intended to function, my review would be higher. But upon contacting the seller, I was just told if I don't like the product, to ship it back. I even asked where I could buy the tabs and was told they are not sold separately. As it is, the scratch pad can be used while laying on the floor but since it is very skinny and very high priced, I feel it is not worth the money spent. I could have got a much wider pad for 1/5 the price. I do not think it is too much to ask that the seller send the adhesive tans that I already paid for.

Additional review---after a week on the floor, it was shredded completely apart. Save your money and get something else.

I was very disappointed. And then

I couldn't get my cats to use this for the life of me! Catnip spray, treats, placing their toys on it... nothing! I was very disappointed. And then, in true cat fashion, they one day decided it was GREAT and use it regularly. It hangs very securely on the wall (though I have placed it between the trim of two doors, where it fits very snugly, so that may account for some of the stability). My cats are 13 and 11 pounds respectively, and it hasn't budged. Due to our tall baseboards, I hung the scratcher higher than you normally would, but that hasn't been a problem. Instead, it's created a secondary sort of play space where my cats like to lay underneath the lip and dig in and spin themselves around.

As it gets used, yes, little bits of cardboard are going to accumulate around it. I have to regularly vacuum for the cat hair anyway, so the cardboard doesn't bother me. We do have hardwood floors though. Might be another matter if it was getting stuck in carpet.

Fatal design flaws, better options out there
by Duca (1 out of 5 stars)

Our cats liked the cardboard material, but the post has a few fatal flaws. 1) The curve at the bottom didn't accommodate our standard baseboards, so the board didn't lie flat against the wall and wasn't very stable. 2) The shape of the board doesn't allow for flipping around after cats scratch up one part of it. 3) You'll end up with a daily puddle of cardboard shavings at the bottom of the post. On the plus side: the little kitty hooks are perfect for wall hanging a PetRageous rectangular scratcher/lounger, which is slightly cheaper than this, can be flipped around once the top part is used up, and holds the cardboard shavings in the lip of the scratcher. Better yet: get the Cat Dancer wall scratcher, which for less than half the price has two inserts that can be rearranged and flipped around for 4X the lifespan, and includes a free Cat Dancer toy which you can either put on the scratcher or use separately.

SUCCESS when combined with catnip and deterrent sprays
by Lillian Angelovic (5 out of 5 stars)

This is the first scratching "post" that my cat has EVER actually used! She has ignored hanging, flat, and post-style scratchers, preferring to use sturdier chairs, couches, and mattresses. The wall-mounting concept is brilliant. I finally have hope for my furniture!

I mounted this scratcher in a central area not far from her favorite chair. I then sprayed the furniture with a not-bad-smelling-to-humans deterrent (

Claw Withdraw Cat Scratch Spray Deterrent - 4oz
) and sprayed the top of this scratcher with a catnip spray (

KONG Naturals Catnip Spray for Cats, 1-Fluid Ounces
). I directed her to check it out and she quickly recognized the texture and vertical surface as something she would like to scratch. Every time she does, I praise her so that she will learn it isn't the scratching that's a problem, but *what* she's scratching. She's pretty smart and I think she's learning.

The cat has returned to her favorite chairs a few times over the course of several days, but each time I've taken a minute to gently move her over to the scratcher, spray it again with the catnip scent, and then go back to refresh the deterrent on the furniture. The result is that so far she has mostly ignored her favorite chairs in favor of this post. Hooray!

Took a while but our cat loves it now!

We needed a cat scratcher to keep Ozzie from shredding the furniture and I really liked the idea of this one because it would be a vertical surface, which seems to be his preference. It was very easy to hang up and is sturdy on the wall. For a whole week the cat walked by it every day and ignored it. I rubbed some catnip on the surface and he would sniff it and that was about all. So I finally took his paws and put them on the board. I can't believe it but that worked!? He uses it every day now. Another great thing, which I wouldn't have thought of before, is that all the little shreds that come off are pretty much in one spot at the base of the scratcher so it's super easy to vacuum up. I am fairly certain I will be buying another one when this one is used up.

Best Scratcher EVER!!
by Mrs.58 (5 out of 5 stars)

My cats totally ignore horizontal cat scratchers, even with catnip sprinkled on them. I bought this as a gift for one cat who came home from vet and needed a treat. He LOVES to sit on his haunches and scratch at least twice a day...he's claimed it for his own. Easy to arrange clips (removable)on wall and then scratcher is mounted onto clips. Super sturdy. My cat is very heavy and tall, he hasn't done any damage toward moving it or detaching it from its position.

UPDATE: 5.22.18 A TIP FOR OTHER OWNERS: My very large cat loves this scratcher but he was able to dislodge it from the very thin weak hooks provided with the scratcher. I replaced it once, however at this price another solution was needed. I purchased self stick large metal hooks--I think it was 3M or a similar manufacturer, look for them on Amazon, stick them in a similar position as the tiny hooks and carefully press the scratcher in a descending movement so that it grabs onto the hooks--Try moving it yourself and be assured your cat ont be able to either!!

First Scratching Post my Wall-Scratching Cat Has Ever Used
by spasticgoat (4 out of 5 stars)
December 23, 2015

So I have the most wonderful furry little friend. He's an angel, he's adorable and fuzzy and he's a little wall scratching demon cat.

I've tried spraying the walls with repellent, I've tried covering them in tin foil (he scratched right through the foil). I've tried spraying him with water (he likes water. He plays in his water bowl!)... Everything I tried was a major failure. I put all kinds of scratching posts right next to were he normally scratches and he doesn't like them. He doesn't like the hanging ones, the rope ones or the posts. He ignores all of them...

Then it occurred to me that besides the texture of the wall, he might actually prefer the solidity of it. Most of the scratching posts I've tried have a wiggle or wobble to them because they are just attached to a pedestal or hung from a nail.

I was really excited when I found this vertical one that attaches to the wall, and with a few careful measures to make this a pleasurable experience, I'm proud to say he's actually using this scratching post! This is the first and only scratching post he has ever used.

If you are wondering why I didn't give this 5 stars, it has only to do with the hooks they send for attaching it to the wall. I would suggest you discard these hooks and don't use them. They're flimsy and when I tested it out, it was fairly easy to pull the post right off of them. Instead of using the hooks, I used 4 extra long decking screws and just screwed right through the post in the top and bottom corners. I sunk the screws deeply enough that his claws won't likely hit them while he's scratching. The thing is solidly attached to my wall in the place where he previously chose to scratch.

I was really carefully to introduce it to him in a fun way, which I think was helpful too... After making sure it was secure so he wouldn't have a bad experience with it falling on him, I took a bit of catnip and put it on the top edge and the bottom curved part. This got him really interested in it and he was rubbing all over it (so he was putting his scent on it, which they claim is part of the whole scratching experience).

Initially, he actually fell asleep using the bottom of the post as a pillow. I thought this was a good start, so I walked away and let him enjoy it. When he got up later, I walked over to the post, and reached my hand down and started scratching it myself. This got him to stand up and put his paws on the the post because he was trying to get me to pet him and in order to rub my hand he had to stand up on the post.

He immediately realized he could sink his claws into it, and started scratching right there (breakthrough!!!). So I gave him lots of love and encouragement as a reward. He proceeded to use it several more times last night, and each time I made sure to recognize his efforts when he was done.

I won't pretend this is the full solution in itself because it isn't. I still have to address the other spots on the walls that he likes to scratch. I believe it will take a combination of replacing those with these awesome posts that he likes to use, and covering those areas for now so that they aren't enjoyable to scratch....

Since he prefers scratching at the corners of the walls, I'm starting with some of those clear plastic corner protectors. If I have to, I'll even consider attaching clear plexiglas over the areas that he repeatedly goes for. I think a hard plastic will definitely deter him from scratching in these areas, and now that he has a post that he likes, I hope it will be an easy switch!

I really would never recommend this product

The best scratcher I've ever had!
by Tsennya (5 out of 5 stars)
June 11, 2016

It went up quick and easy. I like the way it looks. It only projects out a few inches from the wall so as long as it isn't in a narrow space, it is quite unobtrusive. Since it is on the wall, it doesn't get wobbly like many vertical scratching posts do and when you have large cats that wobble can discourage use.

One of my cats does much longer scratching sessions on this than he has ever done on any other scratching product (or piece of furniture). This is definitely his favorite scratcher.

Not only will I definitely replace this with the same product when it wears out, I will be adding at least one more. My friend who was visiting when it arrived was also very impressed and plans to buy these for her 6 cats.

The only way this product could be better is for it to come in a 30" or 32" height so larger cats can get just a little more stretch.
