Consolidated Aircraft PBY Catalina, long range flying boat. Grunman Aircraft F6F Hellcat fighter out flew the Japanese Zero. Republic Aviagion P47 Thunderbolt escort fighter accompanied USAAF bombers into Germany. Erucoupe 145, a two-seater, light monoplane with a wheel control system eliminating stick and rudder. USAF P80 Shooting Star exceeded 500 miles per hour. Consolidated Aircraft B24 Liberator, long range bomber. Boeing's B29 Superfortress with a gross weight of over 100,000 pounds, was 99 feet long with a wing span of 141 feet enabled it to make the long trips from Chinese airstrips to Japan and back. Beech Aircraft's 35 Bonanza, a very fast all metal personal plane with the distinctive V shaped tail. Northrop Aircraft disigned the YB49 Flying Wing, a futuristic design with no fuselage or tail minimizing drag and maximizing lift.
