Poor 35.5 Ka Detection.. Returned it
by Amazon Customer (2 out of 5 stars)
May 28, 2017

I purchased this and returned it. 35.5 Ka Band this Max360's range of pickup is really poor. I purchased the Radenso Pro SE, It is out dusting my Redline on 35.5 Ka band. The Radenso Pro Se. Is a great product. Most officers are running either Lidar laser, or 35.5 Ka band. I hope this saves someone from the headache I had, also for the price this is cheaply made the lettering will rub off. I have always owned Escort but made a change.

Recommend buying the power/ground wire that connects to the back ...

This radar detector works really well so far, I deff. Recommend buying the power/ground wire that connects to the back of the rear view mirror for the much cleaner look myself. Instead of a wire hanging over the dashboard. And also recommend buying the rear view mirror mount for a super clean/custom type look. Check out the pics below and see for yourself!

We collect personally-identifiable information and may share the information we collect.
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)
January 14, 2016

I recently reviewed the Beltronics GT-7 Radar Detector
, which is basically identical to this device. Here are the differences:
1. Directional arrows on the right side that show where the radar is originating in relation to your car. I actually found this feature to be quite useful while driving and making braking/acceleration decisions.
2. You can turn off the "over speed" alarm and can now set it all the up to 160 (limit of 99 on the Beltronics and you could not turn it off).
3. The enclosure is aesthetically different, it's darker and more pleasing to the eye.

Ok, here's the kick in the pants that brought my Beltronics review to 3 stars... Escort is taking a value-subtraction business model by removing core functionality of the device. This is an attempt to get you to subscribe to the Escort Live service for a monthly fee and to also collect a database on you that can be sold to third. This includes your name, you email address, your driving record, the physical locations, and how much you like to speed. Hmmm, what third parties would be interested in such information?

Ok, so I'll be the guinea pig this time around and sign up for the service. I drive a 2009 Corvette and have an Escort Redline (5 stars, by the way) installed. Now I have the Max 360 beside it and I'm ready to attach this thing to my smart phone. Here we go.

I download the app from the Google store. It wants a series of privileges including in-app purchases and my personal identification. I grant it, install it, and open it.

First screen is the terms of service with some really small text that quickly scrolls down the screen and a giant red button that says "I ACCEPT". Not so fast, I'll read it all. Here's the highlights directly quoted from what I am about to agree to:
* "You agree and warrant that all information you provide to Escort as part of the registration process... is truthful and accurate."
* "By creating an Account, you consent to Escort's collection and use of personal information and location-based data as discussed in Escort's Privacy Policy."
* "From time to time, we may use your information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our Policy."
* "We collect both personal information and location based data in connection with your use of the Escort App and the Services."
* "We collect personally-identifiable information"
* "We collect certain information ("Data") from you... Data includes GPS location information, unique device identifiers, user account identifiers, as well as location and time information (heading, street name, time stamp) related to any alerts generated automatically"
* "We may share the information we collect... with third parties, who may use the information for their own marketing purposes."
* "We use the information collected from you to compile a database"
* "We may retain Personal Information you provide to us indefinitely. In addition, any Data we collect is retained in our database indefinitely"

Sounds like a great deal right? You pay Escort a monthly fee of $4.99 in order to unlock the speed limit display on your device (a feature that GPS units have enjoyed without a smart phone for over a decade) and in return they collect an unbelievable amount of personal information and sell it whoever the please. Man, if I was an insurance company or law enforcement agent I would enjoy sifting through that database... in fact, I would probably pay for the privilege.

The app also drains the battery on my Sony Xperia smart phone faster than any app I've seen. It's constantly "scanning for alerts" even when you leave your vehicle. You will have to use some other method to kill the process also because there is no manual exit button in the app itself.

I just don't want to have to use my smartphone with my radar detector. Let's face it... I'm speeding and don't want a ticket. My eyes are on the road, I'm scanning the horizon for dangers, my hands are on the steering wheel. I need a device that will let me know when to brake and I need it to give me accurate and fast information without me having to take my eyes off the road. The Max 360 is not that device... it's an "Internet of Things", it's a data collector, it's a social media interface... but it's not the best radar detector for a driver of a fast car.

Huge step up from my old Escort 8500 X50
by Chad L (4 out of 5 stars)
January 14, 2019

TLDR: This unit is good looking, and pretty easy to set up. If you have power cords from older Escort units, they work with it. Say goodbye to the false alerts that the older models suffer from due to automatic door sensors, alarm systems, proximity sensors in newer cars, etc. Hugs step up from the older detectors. A little pricey, but cheaper than a speeding ticket and insurance bump.

I've only had my Max360 for a couple days, but took it on a 300 mile road trip including driving around the city I live in and Las Vegas, so I feel like I've gotten a pretty good look at its capabilities on the highway and in town. I upgraded from an Escort 8500 X50 that I've been using for years. That detector saved my butt more times than I can count, but.. my wife hated it because it was constantly going off due to automatic doors, proximity sensors, etc. even with the hardwired smart cord mute button, it was constantly chirping or flat out screaming on K band, which the cops here don't use.

I ordered the Max 360 on Friday morning and paid $10 extra to have it by the next day. It showed up even earlier than expected, giving me time to get it set up before our Vegas road trip. The most frustrating part was trying to create an account on the Escort Live app on my phone- it kept rejecting my choice of password without telling me why, but finally sent me an email congratulating me on successful account creation- luckily that email had the password in it, because although it was similar to what i chose, it had several extra characters in it that I hadn't typed in.

The good: it's a really good looking detector. A lot of reviewers have complained about the size, and its definitely bigger than my old one, but it's not ridiculously huge. I was using a rear view mirror mount and a hard wired smart cord for the 8500, and was stressing about whether or not I could use the same setup for this new unit. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the cord plugged right in and works great- it even allows me to use the mute button to lock out the rare false alarms this unit has the mirror mount doesn't fit, but the mount provided w the 360 is surprisingly rock solid, so no big deal there, and I LOVE the magnetic mount. So easy to slip the detector on and off. I highly recommend the hard wired kit- it eliminates the cord running down the middle of your windshield to the cigarette lighter, for a much cleaner look.

Once I got the 360 attached to my windshield, it was time for a drive. I went up and down a busy street where my old unit would be going off left and right, and... sweet silence. Not one false alert. Using the app on my phone, I can change the display color (4 choices), the types of radar/laser that it alerts on, and a few other settings. Having my actual speed show right next to the posted speed limit on the display is awesome. Once we got into Vegas, which is notorious for false alerts, the detector stayed silent. It did show me police radar accurately

The not great- initial app set up was a little frustrating. Also, in order to update firmware, you need to connect the detector to a PC using a USB A/mini B cable, which isn't included. Luckily I've got an old box of cords around and had one in it. Also, not crazy about the privacy policy which basically says that by using the defender live and gps features, you give them permission to share your personalized data with 3rd parties- I bet insurance companies would love to get their hands on that info.

Because of the glitches in getting my account set up, i haven't had time to connect the unit to my computer to make sure that the firmware is the most current version, but will be doing that today. If I run into issues, I'll update the review.

WORTH IT. TRUST ME
by Chase Strynkowski (5 out of 5 stars)

Had an escort from 2007 so got a new one. Knowing the quality of the brand before I bought was a huge factor. With police radars you really pay for what you get. Was driving on the parkway with my brother, was driving a tad bit fast in left lane. Got a signal it was 1 or 2 beeps with the arrow pointing foward. Slowed down a bit to speed limit while being cautious. About 1 min later the cop is on the side of the road checking speeds. SUPER USEFUL. Will not only save you money in tickets but will save you money eventually on car insurance. Def cop this jawn

Mount Supplied Very Inadequate for Size/Weight of this Detector! Had to buy aftermarket mount.
by DaddyOh (1 out of 5 stars)
March 13, 2018

Seems to work similarly to the Escort IX I have, but holy cow, this is about a third larger and super heavy The mount supplied is inadequate for the size and weight of the unit, because even in my long wheelbase, smooth-riding luxury car, it bounces around like crazy from the weight of the unit on such an insufficient mount. The Escort IX unit never did this. Very disappointing, inadequate mounting system for this behemoth of a radar detector. This situation forced to purchase $100 aftermarket mount for this to be usable. Escort's customer service 100% unresponsive to support questions about their OEM mount. I was a loyal Escort customer for many, many years. Will never purchase another Escort product after this terrible experience.

False Alerts from the sun, Speed errors and its HUGE
by David (1 out of 5 stars)
November 28, 2018

I was really hoping to like this, I've driven with it for almost a week. When I first opened the box the other reviews weren't kidding, Its HUGE, I've had cassette Walkmans in the 90s smaller than this, with better styling. So on to the usage review... I can tell the sensitivity is bad, I'll drive by a radar and the front sensor works only when I get close to the source, then just stops when I pass the radar with no rear sensitivity at all. While driving on highway using the escort app (which is awful btw) the detector said the speed limit was 25, but the speed limit is in reality 50, So I kept getting overspeed alerts. The final straw was when the sun is low directly in front of me I kept getting non-stop laser alerts. Returning this and putting my very old and always reliable V1 back up.

Believe the negative reviews
by Debbie (1 out of 5 stars)
May 30, 2017

I, just like everyone else that purchased the max 360 wanted it to be the shining star of new radar detector technology...simply stated escort should have never put this on the market. It doesn't work as well as 9500ix so why spend the money? Lastly, what others have said about escort's customer service is also true. They could care less! So if you want to waste your money and time by all means be my guest and buy the max360 but I'll bet it's replaced soon with a new model that hopefully is better executed.

Refurbished?
by okaymatt (1 out of 5 stars)
March 12, 2018

Unfortunately the rating is 1 Star only because we went to register our warranty and it was already registered to someone else yet item and packaging appeared to be in new condition. The product itself is as described. Leads us to believe this is a refurbished product.

Great Filtering - Directional Arrows
by YellowTang (4 out of 5 stars)
August 12, 2017

I have owned this unit for a while. Under the old firmware it was very chatty with BSM alerts, then they released the new IVT firmware update(s). These updates did a great job reducing the BSM alerts, however it caused the unit to lock up randomly. However, they released another version to address this lock up and so far so good! The unit does an amazing job filtering false K band BSM alerts which is important these days. The arrows are key to know if the threat is behind or in front of so you can adjust as needed.
