Cotton shrinks when wet in heavy rain, making itself waterproof when it rains. The first time your tent gets wet it may leak a little, don't worry, THIS IS TOTALLY NORMAL!

Once it dries out for the first time that shrinkage closes up any little holes to ensure it won't happen again.

Not just pleasantly surprised, AMAZED AND DELIGHTED!
by Daniel P Delcollo (5 out of 5 stars)

I purchased this tent intending it to be a more "historical" looking tent to bring with me to SCA events. I know that it isn't medieval at all, but that's exactly the point! It looks medieval so it doesn't stand out as a blatantly modern tent, yet has all the features you might expect and want out of a comfortable home away from home. I was able to set up this tent solo in 15 minutes while wrangling a toddler. It includes everything needed including stakes, guy lines and poles. The only thing I needed was a hammer. The tent is well made with a canvas exterior, heavyweight pvc floor and mosquito netting for the the windows and door. But the really amazing part were the unadvertised extra features. A ring to hold a lantern, netted peak vents, ties inside and out to add high wind supports, and more. The removable pvc floor extends up 3" to keep out unexpected ground water. The entire sidewalls of the tent can be rolled up if the doors windows and vents aren't enough airflow. And these are just the features I've discovered in the trial set up on my lawn. As the title says, I am more than just pleasantly surprised at the quality and value of this tent, I am amazed. I would have no hesitation recommending this tent to others.

Save your money. It may be rain proof but it's not UV tolerant.

My wife, dog, and I have been camping in our Dream House 16.4 ft. bell tent (our yurt) on a new 24 acre wooded property in Northern Arizona that we purchased to build a cabin on. The summer monsoon brings major lightning storms and torrential downpours on almost a daily basis. With expensive electronic equipment in the tent, we didn't want to take the chance of the tent leaking in a downpour.

The tent roof tarp is well constructed, comes with everything you need to set it up, and has held up to major sustained winds and heavy rain for several weeks without a drop of water making it into the tent. It was good insurance.

I note that the tent roof tarp does not allow trapped heat in the tent to dissipate through the four roof vents because it does not have roof vents itself. In the summer it makes for a little warmer tent, but that's okay because we like to spend the day working on the property and resting under our EZ-Up. I would imagine that if you're winter camping, the tent tarp would provide additional insulation and keep the tent warmer.
[UPDATE: August 28, 2017]: We had a small thunder shower with moderate winds blow through today. The roof tarp was ripped off of the tent. Following an inspection of what failed, I found that the sewn in loops that the ropes tie to were all torn apart. When I checked to see why they tore, I found that they disintegrated when I pulled on them. The tent roof has only been up for about a month and was destroyed by UV exposure. If you plan to use the roof tarp one or two days at a time it might last some time but for an extended glamping trip, it won't last if exposed to the sun.

... and figured based on the reviews that it was good enough to warrant not going with the American
by Amazon Customer (2 out of 5 stars)
November 22, 2016

I purchased this tent for $600 and figured based on the reviews that it was good enough to warrant not going with the American brand name version. It was still a big investment at $600 and I just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra $250 for the name brand with this tent having such good reviews. Well, I'll consider this a lesson learned on getting what you paid for. Here were the main issues contributing to the 2 star rating:
1. The tent is NOT canvas. The whole reason I was interested in this tent was because I was tired of flimsy nylon and plastic tents. I really wanted the breath-ability of canvas. The tent looks like canvas at first, but then upon unpacking it I realized its completely coated in plastic. I tried to breathe through the canvas and couldn't for a million dollars. Also, the plastic sticks to itself and then tears away from the really, really thin cotton exterior and then water can come through in those spots. It is also only 73 pounds (much lighter than advertised) and that makes me think it can't really be 9.6 oz like they are claiming because the American brand tent is 94 lbs at the same canvas weight. It also has a strong plastic smell, and sounds like a pool float when you move the material around.
2. Stakes and ropes are cheap: I fully expected this and was fine with that. It did come with metal sliders which are better than plastic.
3. The stove jack: I was excited to purchase a tent with a stove jack so that I could use a wood burning stove. Well, the stove jack is in the side-wall, and heat rises, so not only is that not a safe placement, it's also not effective... I thought I would just make a bending exhaust pipe but when I called the stove company I was going to use they said that makes no sense and that the stove would only get choked up backing smoke and carbon monoxide back into the tent... which would be really unsafe in a non-breathing tent like this one.
4. The most exasperating part of this purchase was that I couldn't just pickup the phone and talk to someone about this. Because they don't have a phone number, don't have a shop, or website or a warranty.
5. Fire-retardedness - plastic is not FR.... I would be extremely wary of having any heat sources in this tent. The lack of breath-ability + the plastic coating on the canvas is not a good mix for carbon monoxide or fire.... I was surprised that the stove jack doesn't even have FR material around the opening... Oh, and the opening is like 7 inches, which means that it won't work with most stoves anyway.
6. The screen door has a snag already and seems really flimsy. That wouldn't be a huge deal except that when the screen rips I think you'll just have to cut the door out completely.
7. The tent came a couple days late. I didn't need it right away so it wasn't a huge deal for me. The box it came in was basically destroyed upon arrival.
8. The zippers seem ok.

I love this tent
by Eugene Cushing (5 out of 5 stars)
June 27, 2017

I love this tent. My girlfriend and I go camping about once a month in a variety of extreme environments. I'll update this post as we hit different spots and do our testing. Cosmetically, it is beautiful. We get a lot of complements for the classic look of this tent. It fit in wonderfully at a recent renaissance faire. The big appeal of this tent is the practicality of it. I like being able to stand in tents, because I hate trying to get dressed while rolling around on the ground. This tent offers a ton of standing room. The footprint is also small considering how spacious it is, roughly 10' x 10'. I previously had a Guide Gear Tipi tent Guide Gear 18x18' Teepee Tent
, and that tent was the opposite. It had a huge footprint and very little usable space. That considered, I'll be taking the rest of this review to describe my experiences with this tent in various conditions.

Set up and take down: Really easy. Working alone I can put it up or take it down in less than fifteen minutes. Every time I fold it up I'm sure it won't fit in the bag, but each time it slips in easily, even when folded hastily or soaked in water. The doorway support poles fell apart the third time I put it up, but now they store a lot easier, so I'm happy about that.

Rain/wind: This tent is a champ in the rain. A CHAMP. We were camping on the Oregon coast when a storm rolled in. Although the exterior was totally soaked, the interior of the tent was bone dry. The ground liner seems to be the same material used in rubber boats, and it comes up about 3" on the sides. This means you can have a small stream running under your tent and the interior will stay dry. During the storm the tent also endured heavy wind gusts. These gusts were strong enough to knock the neighbor's high-speed REI tents flat, and send the dome tents next to them flying into trees. This tent stood like a rock though, weathering the storm and holding strong.

Update: we left the tent up, unattended for a week at a renaissance fair site while we were working our real jobs. The day before we got back a severe windstorm rolled through, destroying a number of structures and tents. The only damage to our tent was a few broken guy lines. Despite the broken lines, the tent held firm.

Leaks heavily, smells like plastic, missing parts, pole ripped through top. Lots of emailing seller.
by Ricky (2 out of 5 stars)
September 13, 2017

I've had a lot of trouble with this tent, and even though the seller has been somewhat responsive, I would wholeheartedly advise against purchasing one.

The main problem I have with this tent is that it is not waterproof. Every time it rains, there are puddles on the floor inside. I believe the issue is the stitched seams, because the fabric is backed with plastic. In this sense it is not an authentic bell tent - instead of heavy waxed canvas, the material is a thinner cotton with a plastic interior. I wouldn't have minded if it were actually waterproof. I put rugs and some furniture inside to make it a glamping tent, but every time it rains, the floor puddles up. My rugs get soaked and the legs of my wood furniture sit in little indentations of water. Be prepared to empty the tent of all your nice things if it looks like rain. The tent cannot be left set up for long periods of time, because the amount of water collecting in the waterproof base will just keep increasing each time it rains.

After a few uses, during the set up, the main pole ripped right through the roof and the tent collapsed on me. I used the rubber pole cap that was included, but it looks like the seams joined a the peak of the tent just fell apart. See picture! I reached out to the seller and they got back in about 24hrs, and the sent me a new top so (took a few weeks, but I got it). We will see how it holds up.

Other those two major problems, here are the other issues I've encountered:
- the first two tents I received arrived very badly damaged in transit. they manufacturer's packaging (just a cardboard box) is much too weak for the weight of the tent.
- the bundle of small parts (ropes, stakes, etc) were short a few parts. The seller sent the parts from China so I got them a month later. In between I improvised to get the tent set up.
- the pole ripped through the floor of the tent. I used the rubber foot thing, but the plastic floor wasn't strong enough on wet ground.
- two zippers have broken off
- strong plastic smell, even after a year
- there's mold growing on the fabric - black spots. I've never put this away wet.

Hope this helps someone considering this tent. It's not built to last. Not at all.

Guest glamping tent with idea for base
by Amanda Grace (5 out of 5 stars)

This tent is great and it works wonderfully as my guest glamping tent!! This is definitely a two person job to put up. We put a pallet base under it with some plyboard to keep it off the ground. But we love it and it has so many possibilities.

Don't Bother Wasting Your Hard Earned Money - Knock Off
by Amazon Customer (1 out of 5 stars)

BUYER BEWARE!

I purchased my 5M "Canvas Cotton" Dreamhouse Tent in December of 2016 and wish I would have paid more attention to the 2 Star and 1 Star reviews for this product. Like everyone else, the $500 - $600 price tag was the biggest selling point, everything else available on the market was $200 - $800 more. If I would have known then what I was purchasing, I would have gladly paid a bit more for a better-quality product.

After a full year of testing, I can say all the bad reviews are spot on and if you care about what you spend your cash on then keep reading.

It Stinks, it Leaks and does not Breath at all.

I will say the build quality has not been an issue so much with my tent, it's held up fairly well without tearing at the seams in heavy wind and the zippers have been fine too.

The two main issues I have with it are #1, the stench of rubber & #2 the fact that the material does not breath, I can deal with the occasional leak. The chimney hole is in a strange place and is not suitable for any stoves I have researched, piping a flue sideways causes your stove to back up w/ smoke. I can't imagine that the rubber sprayed walls are very friendly to sparks either, to me its an accident waiting to happen.

Hoping the rubber smell would go away, I left my tent up for 2 weeks to see if the pool float odor would dissipate, not a bit. Even after several additional camping trips and multiple 2 weeks setups on my family's property, I can say the smell is as strong as ever.

I honestly expected any tent w/ a thick rubber floor to have some sort of rubbery smell, but the tent walls smell worse than the rubber floor and when the wind blows strong or the sun is hot and shining directly on it, the odor gets worse. I even tried setting it up without the rubber floor but the odor was just as strong. Canvas should not smell that way!

If you read through the reviews, Dreamhouse says they applied a waterproofing material to the walls b/c they received complaints about the canvas itself leaking w/ out it. Then maybe Dreamhouse should consider just using a better quality, thicker/heavier duty canvas that doesn't need extra waterproofing agents.

After this purchase, I spent several months looking for a better, non-toxic smelling tent.

If you like the look of Canvas Bell Tents and want real cotton canvas, I recommend doing your own research.

A few weeks ago, tired of dealing with this mess, I started speaking with the people over at Stout Tents located in Arizona. Awesome customer service!!! The owner even reached out to me and helped answered all my questions thoroughly.

After multiple helpful phone calls and emails, Stout sent me samples of the canvas they use, which is 100% cotton, I went with their 5000 Overland Sunforger w/ 10.10 oz Army Duck Canvas, and it is fantastic, and best of all no rubber inner wall lining or smell. My new tent also has a chimney hole built into the ceiling, so the flue goes straight up and out of the tent which allows the stove to work properly.

Stout also offers repairs if your tent gets damaged over time or needs cleaning (they also fix other competitors tents). I have to say it's really nice to be able to just pick up the phone and talk to someone on the other end here in the States.

My Dreamhouse is for sale on craigslist if anyone wants it cheap?

Getting what you pay for
by Steve Lackey (5 out of 5 stars)

I knew it was heavy when I ordered it having a shipping weight of 90 pounds. That being said, this is a quality tent that goes up very easily. It has an amazing amount of room, we easily fit our queen size air mattress, several tables & chairs, etc. We will be using it 4-5 times a year for weekend camping trips, and we look forward to going even more now that we have the amount of space this tent provides. I will be purchasing the awning next, to replace my 12x12 pop up that I'm currently using. Definitely worth the money.

My only quibble is with the small "L" shaped stakes that are used to peg down the base. They work, but I can see needing to replace them after a few uses. We used it last weekend at an SCA event, and it was great. While I am not super impressed with the location of the stove pipe hole for use with a stove, the placement was perfect for running the leads out to my solar panels.

Pros:
1.) Super easy set up.
2.) so much ROOM! It's amazingly spacious.
3.) Simple and effective tension system for the ropes
4.) Semi Historical for "period" camping
5.) Strong, quality steel center pole and door arch.

Cons:
1.) Super cheap peg stakes that go around the base. Those will be replaced, but they do work.
2.) OMG is this thing heavy. Wrestling the tent back down small enough to fit in the bag was such an exercise in frustration that I gave it up and will be storing it in a tote. The 5 Meter version weighs in around 75-80 pounds without the poles.

Poor quality tent that lasted 1 season.
by Anthem DeVigil (1 out of 5 stars)
April 8, 2017

Revised review. I had this tent for 1 year and it didn't even survive the next season. The exterior is imitation canvas glued onto a inner thin plastic lining. The stitching on the zippers ripped after first cleaning with bleach. Had to bleach it because the imitation canvas is a mold magnet. I suggest getting a better quality tent from a well know maker. Perhaps from soulpads.

GLAMPING STYLE MADE EASY!!
by CSN Super~Shopper! (5 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2018

Great quality for the price! Easy to assemble but took a couple of tries on the first attempt. Next time will be a snap!We were able to easily fit 2 queen sized blow up beds in this tent with a large trunk which carried our bedding. We also put rugs down and had a nice sized fan which was fabulous for circulation in the Florida summer heat! And to be extreme "Glampers" we also set up a small window air conditioning unit in the window on the outside pressed up against the window screen with a sleeve we made from fabric identical to tent I found at Walmart! We slept at 68 degrees in the tent in 90+ degree heat! I had chosen this tent because it has a vinyl coating interior and it hold like insulation! It is roomy because of the height in the center. We used the stove pipe hole to run an electric cord inside with a power strip to run the fan, lamp & chargers...it Velcro fastens tightly around the core nicely! No problems with the zippers or doors or windows at all. After staying in this tent with such a high Center...I know I made the right choice over any regular dome type tent. And the vinyl coating insulation factor was a win win!
I do recommend getting a tarp for underneath just to keep the bottom clean for when you take it down & fold it back up to store it.

Can't wait to try it in cold weather and see how warm it will be with a little electric room heater!

It also looks fancy and gets many components if you dress it up Glamping style!
