Great stocking stuffer idea
by Jason L. (3 out of 5 stars)

PROS

Work as designed (if not as advertised)

CONS

Trading double-knots for velcro patches

Quicker putting boots on but fussier taking off

Questionable value proposition

I thought I'd try these and have been using these for about three weeks. As a deployed construction heavy equipment operator, they've seen light duty so far; haven't been marching through thickets, low crawling, etc. but they haven't failed or come undone.

To be clear, TACLACE doesn't offer a magical way to cinch up boot straps; that's a function of the boot/eyelet design (some boots lace quickly, others require fiddling). Snugging boot laces isn't improved by this product, it merely allows you to wrap the excess boot lace around the ankle instead of tying it in a big, double-knotted bow. That's not a fault or design knock, just comparing reality with advertising. I tie my boots with TACLACE daily while sitting across from another soldier who ties his traditionally. TACLACE seems to be a few seconds quicker in casual use but he has the security of knots while I have velcro. Additionally, TACLACE costs me a few seconds to remove my boots at the end of the day. On initial fitting, you thread excess lace length into the TACLACE eyelets and trim the lace to the stretched length of TACLACE (any excess would visibly dangle, so you may end up trimming a few inches of your laces like I did). The trimmed laces plus the 3-4 inches TACLACE bunches up onto your laces when you take your boots off add up to a restricted boot opening. I'm accustomed to more lace length to open up my boot and slide out of it, but as long as I accommodate these restrictions, it's not a significant problem. Everything gets compared with what we're used to; I can't fault the design of TACLACE as they work fine, do their job and certainly do save some amount of time on the front end (even if it takes longer on the back end).

If you're on a QRF team (or a firefighter, etc.) where go-time is critical, these would work as fast as advertised. But I wouldn't want to wear snatched-on boots all day, so I prefer to fiddle with mine a little more. I like the product overall but the value proposition at $20 keeps it at 3 stars for me.
...that said, I still bought a set for my USMC son as a stocking stuffer. If $20 won't break the budget and you want to recover (literally) a few seconds each day, I recommend giving them a try.

Excellent, durable and functional

This is my second set of TacLaces, and they are a great product. My first set has held up extremely well, through water, mud, dust and even ice. The material of the securing straps is a high quality elastic webbing that has so far shown little wear or fraying. I recently bought a second set for my spare boots, and I've attached pictures. The package includes 2x sets of straps, 2x large bootlaces, and instructions on how to attach everything. Given that the genius behind these was is a US Marine, I appreciate the use of diagrams to ensure that installation was Jarhead-proof. As you can see in the before and after pictures, I used to tie these boots by using cordlocks and then wrapping the unused "tail" of the laces around my ankle. This is a tried and true method, but the down side is that the lace wrapped around the ankle is exposed to extra wear, which may result in failure. There is also no give in this cord, which means it has to be wrapped tight and can lead to diminished circulation. TacLace solves both of these problems, as on the one hand the webbing strap protects the laces around the ankle and on the other secures them using hook and loop, rather than knots. Overall a great product, a common sense design and extremely functional and durable.

Awesome time-saver - very effeciant

I saw these were designed by former marine, ordered after watching the video and love these. Ooh-rah, marine!

You do have to replace your boots' laces with their provided laces, as the provided laces are a tad longer to accommodate the tac-lace's operation.

They are a breeze to put on, as designed. Put boot on, slide the clamp-knot down the free laces to the boot, wrap around the top of the boot and velcro. Reverse is just as easy: pull the clamp-knot up the free laces (the laces pull the tac-lace into an accordion shape, and loosen the lace inside the boot.

A bonus is that the tac-lace removes the "wrap around the top of the boot over and over and tie, hoping the knot won't be too big or too small.

I will order a pair of these for each of my boots.

Would be worth twice the price, it work as advertised.

Love this product. Had an issue with the device that cinch the strings tight, but sent an email to the company and they were able to tell me the problem (hard click the device to activate it). And once that was fixed it worked great. Lace your boots with the strings and velcro bands provided and it really works. I used to adjust my boot laces at least 4-5 times a day, now it's once when I leave for work and that's it. This has been the best investment for my feet besides my Red Wings. I have issues with my feet and proper lacing tightness and continuous consistency in lacing helps my feet last 10 hour shifts.

If you wear boots and don't use this device, you are missing out on a comfortable fix and you are wasting time lacing and tying your boots to many times.

Great customer support.

The greatest thing about these are your boots will not loosen ...
by Brad S (5 out of 5 stars)

I have had these for a couple weeks now. I use them on my work boots. I have the speed lace hooks on my boots. I am not sure if they are any faster than tying them as usual. If you have eyelet holes all the way up your boots then they would be much faster.

The greatest thing about these are your boots will not loosen or come untied all day. I typically walk between 4 to 20 miles per day in my boots. They are just as tight as I laced them at the end of the day. They do come with a set of laces that I had to trim to fit my boots after I set them up
The best recommendation I can make is I am ordering another set for my other boots as soon as I am finished writing this. I will probably order these for my police and fireman friends for gifts. You will not regret ordering these.

Secure, handy system for any boot.
by Daniel (4 out of 5 stars)

The TacLace system works well for any boot, and can even be used to provide ankle support (although it isn't designed for that). I've installed the laces onto a pair of rollerblades, and they've sped up the time to put the boot on securely while making the laces more secure by lowering the chances of it unraveling by itself to around 0%. The Velcro allows different parts of the strap to secure onto itself, making it hard to come loose and tangle with anything. It's simple to install and easy to use, and won't interfere with the function of the boot at all. It's a great purchase for something so useful, and I consider it reliable.

Best alternative to traditional laces or zippers
by Smokey_mask (5 out of 5 stars)

I work in emergency services and typically buy slip-on or side zipper boots becuase they are easier to don and doff. Since that wasn't an option this time I decided to give Taclaces a try. They arrived pretty quickly after I ordered them which was great. I took them out of the box and immediately lacee them onto my boots. I have pretty thick calves so I felt like there wasn't quite enough lace to do the job. I swapped the stock laces out with paracord so I could have a little bit of extra room. As for the rest of the system, I love it! It makes donning my boots so much easier and faster. Furthermore, I can make them as tight or as loose as I want without having to untie anything. All you have to do is pull and wrap. Easy as pie! Doffing my boots now take half the time it took with zippers and is almost as fast as pulling off slip-one. Overall I am satisfied with TacLACES!!

Great idea
by Ty B (3 out of 5 stars)

Great Idea.

My hiking boots come untied all the time and it is very annoying. I bought these to solve the problem. New problem is the strap comes loose and grabs the back of my ankle. I then ran the strap threw the little loop on the back of my hiking boots but they still slip up on the sides. Also the extra show stings come loose and hang sometimes underneath. Another unexpected issue is the hook and loop catches everything. If you have pets be sure and keep them strapped up when not in use or they will soon end up full of pet hair.

Good idea, but bad design
by cchgn (4 out of 5 stars)

Good idea , but bad design. Mine broke at first use. The idea is that your laces lace through the product and when you want to "stap up" , you simply "pull and wrap" and it secures with Velcro. WELL, YOU'RE PULLING ON THE VELCRO. On mine, the Velcro pulled apart at first pull.. What they need is webbing and have Velcro sewed to the webbing. They said they'd send me a new set, but why send a bad design to fix a bad design? I'm still waiting for the upgrade. No word yet. I guess more folks need to demand the upgrade.

I like the way they work, but they don't last.
by Brian J Johnson (1 out of 5 stars)
December 18, 2016

I've had these for about a month, and shortly after I started using them the pulls at the top started to rip apart. I can sew them back, but I would have hoped a product that tells you to use the loops to pull on, would make them strong enough to do so. I like the way they work, but I can't see them lasting very long.

UPDATE:

After a few months these have started to completely fall apart. Disappointing as the concept is fantastic, but the deliverable is sub-par.
