Sweet little go cart
by Bob (5 out of 5 stars)
February 20, 2017

Sweet little Go Cart. For $1000 delivered right to my door... no brainer. Looks great, started right up on the first pull, and the kids have been cruising it around non stop. A couple things that I didn't expect, but that did not bother me: Set up... it wasn't difficult, but you do have to put on the little roll cage, rear wheels, steering wheel, and seat. Also, I expected it to go a little faster, but I did notice a governing screw that would probably allow a lot more throttle. I just haven't messed with it though cause it is plenty fast for my kids. For me, I'm a big guy and I like to go fast. So I may have to play with the governor a little bit in the future...

It did come well packaged with a metal frame inside the box to keep it safe. I included some pics... Little guy in the pics is 5 and he could drive it just fine sitting at the edge of the seat in front of me, almost on my lap. If I scoot the seat forward, (which is a nice feature) he might be able to drive it by himself. But ain't no way that's happening yet : ) My other kids ages 8, 10 and 11 all average height could drive it no problem unassisted.

Great fun at a good price from a quality company.

this go kart has been a lot of fun. I notice there are no products listed on coleman's website and no owners manuals are posted online. So I will try to go into more detail than usual. The manual is 40 pages, and while some of it is fluff it did have some interesting information.

I'm not going to leave you in suspense... I have only good things to say about this go kart and it met all my expectations. While I am not going to say it is perfect, I do think that every effort was made to make a good product. There are separate instruction manual and owners manual which are both above average: they are well written in proper english and include toll free numbers for support. I found no reason to find fault with them.

Shipping was straightforward. The item came via a box truck, I did have to call and reschedule the appointment which had been made by Amazon without contacting me to find what day worked best. I tipped the driver an extra $20 to put the heavy package in my garage until I was ready to work on it. The manifest said it weighed 400 lbs. It came on a wooden pallet which the driver left the product on. You will have to dispose of the pallet, box, and metal shipping crate on heavy trash day or take it somewhere yourself because its very large and non standard. I intend to use the metal shipping crate (made from angle iron) for a project. The triple wall box, wooden pallet, and metal cage might weight 100 lbs all by itself.

The assembly was very easy and straightforward, with a very good instruction manual. My 14 year old daughters assembled most of the go Kart with limited help from me. It didn't take them very long. Then I went back and inspected their work and then tightened all the bolts down.

It comes in a big frame made out of angle iron that you have to disassemble. There is a cardboard box over the metal frame. We chose to remove all the bolts along the bottom and then remove the frame by picking it up. Then we rolled the go kart forward over the front and pulled out the bottom half of the metal crate from behind. Those were parts that I helped with. You can see some pictures of this.

You'll use a ratchet set to take the metal shipping crate apart.

After assembly, I went to the hardware store to buy 10w30 oil to put in the engine. It says that its shipped without any engine oil, and that it takes .61 oil. But when I bought a bottle that had .49 oil it would not fit and started to spill back out of the oil fill. So be careful with that. The oil plug was not obvious, and sits on the side of the engine nearest the driver's seat. There is a picture in the owner's manual but I found it to be difficult to find using the picture. The same place you use to fill it with oil is also where the dipstick is.
The go kart started on the first pull. There are a lot of warning stickers.

We enjoyed driving the go kart for several days before I posted this review. During this time we learned how to increase the maximum speed using a throttle adjustment, which allowed us to do 180s and spinouts in a damp field which was fun. You can double the speed with a throttle adjustment.

We had two punctures which resulted in flat tires, which we patched using a kit similar to this one: Slime 1034-A T-Handle Tire Plug Kit
. I would strongly recommend you buy this item at the same time as your go kart, because its cheap and you'll likely need it.

Then we had a sidewall puncture, which may have been from a dog biting it. for that reason I'm buying two of these today: Kenda 75105619 Motorcycle Tube - 145/70-6 TR-244A
. The tires on the go kart are tubeless, but it can be easier to switch to an inner tube and replace or patch that as needed. The front tires are 145/70-6 sized. The back tires are bigger 16/6-8.

One gripe that I have is that you are supposed to be 16 to drive the go kart according to the owners manual. This is not an age warning or complaint: I had 10 kids aged 8 to 16 driving the go kart for hours, and its really no problem to have a younger kid drive it (we do have a rule: if you want to drive it, you have to be prove you can start it). My main issue is that none of the kids aged 15 and up thought that they did not really "fit" in the go kart. Their knees were really bent, and their head stuck out past the top roll cage. In fact, if you look at the second and third product pictures, you can see the helmet is indeed sticking up above the roll cage. I'm here to tell you that kid in those pictures was not very tall. I had a 16 year old who was 6 foot tall and he had to squash himself into the cart. A 14 year old was surprised at how fast it went, he felt the small size probably meant it was underpowered (its not, at least for the 6.5hp version). We always had the go kart with the seat pushed all the way back, we never moved it forward for anyone. This go kart is on the small side!

Here's my point: If you have big kids, and by that I mean tall, this go kart may not be right for you.

On the other hand, it is very easy for 2 grown people to put the go kart in the back of a pickup truck, even a small pickup truck like a honda ridgeline. You don't need a trailer to move it around.

There are 19 rules in the owners manual, here are the ones that really stuck out to me: (Page 5):
1) Never allow anyone under the age of 16 to operate this go kart. It also says this on the front cover of the owners manual. We did allow an 8 year old to drive it and we turned the screw to REDUCE the maximum possible speed when he drove it.
2) Always wear DOT certified motorcycle helmet with other protective stuff. (we did this)
3) Do not use on paved surfaces or it could become "unstable" (at 196cc its probably illegal on any public road)
4) the brush guard surrounding the driver and passenger is not intended to provide rollover protection (um, right...)
5) Do not modify this go kart in any way (I wonder if turning a screw to increase speed is considered to be a "modification"...)

Other details:

Just like a car, it has to be maintained. They recommend having a first oil change after 5 hours of use, then, each 3 months or 50 hours. Replace spark plug every 6 months or 100 hours. And tightening stuff on a regular basis. How many people will do that? Nobody I know.

I know this has been a long review, but this product is on the speedy side, so I wanted to go into more detail.

Great mini bike/great customer service/ horrible shipping
by giwill (5 out of 5 stars)

First off great little mini bike for the money, and by little, i do mean little, this thing is tiny. This is a good size for an 8 to 10 year old. Or if u wanna look like a shriner. The packaging and shipping is ridiculously horrible. Along with all the others here, mine was also banged up pretty bad, to the point the handlebars where bent. This is why i feel like this still deserves 5 stars. I call Coleman, talked to a man named Steven, not a fake indian ,can barely speak english Steven, like almost every other company, But a real , english midwest Steven. I told him my issues, and without hesitation, he said the replacement parts would be on the way, and he wanted to know if he should schedule a repair facility to install. I said it wouldnt be necessary, all he asked is for me to email him my invoice and where to send the parts. Because of that, i will soon be purchasing the ct200.

What a blast

I ordered this go kart for my 9 year old daughter for Christmas. I picked the kart up from the freight delivery service. I managed unloading the big box by myself from a truck with a dolley. Unpacking was a breeze. The included instruction manual has good details and the kart was easy to put together. I did not find where the front wheels and back wheels have any labeling, but the wheels have different spacers. I think the kart is very well built for the price. I adjusted the gas pedal stop all the way up so the speed is limited as much as possible and the kart is still pretty fast for a 9 year old. Oh, and I am 6 feet and 210 and I can ride it just fine. I would recommend this purchase.

Fell apart in less than two months
by heather carpenter (1 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2018

Bought this go kart for my six year old daughter. We have had it for two months now and it is falling apart. The ball joints in the front end are constantly breaking, the flimsy welds on the seat back have broken, the long bolts that hold the base for the engine have snapped, the welds for the jack shaft have broken, we spend more time working on it than driving it. Fortunately, you can purchase any part online, and every time you do the shipping and handling is at least 20$. I purchased two ball joints for a total of 15$ and the shipping was over 20$. That was two weeks ago and they still aren't here. Coleman has completely lost my business due to this lousy go kart. I won't even buy so much as a sleeping bag with their logo on it ever again.

Great Gift but very disappointed wouldn't start!
by Maverick (3 out of 5 stars)

My Grandson was speechless! We were so excited, at first but became very frustrated and disappointed. It's in a huge box, whomever delivered it didn't have the courtesy to let me know, he left it at bottom of driveway, box Upside down! I'm disabled & no way I could get it up 14 front steps, even if put together! It's beautiful, just like picture, but after putting it together, before adding oil & gas, there was oil all over it & the tires, & must have gotten in the engine from being upside down. It wouldn't start! Had to take almost all of it apart, clean and dry everything, engine, carburetor, etc. Still wouldn't start, not even after 5 days! My Grandson had to go back to school, so he still hasn't ridden it yet! I wanted to return it & exchange it, but my son went & purchased new parts & it finally started. *Amazon should make sure the box is marked "This side Up" in Bright colors! Delivery people should pay more attention & NO Excuse with a huge box like that that can't be carried, Driver should make sure to ring bell & knock on front door, give Homeowner time to get to door & at least Ask the homeowner where they want box left! In my case, being disabled, he could have brought it in my family room! My Grandson tried not to act disappointed, bike wouldn't start but never got to ride his Christmas present! I gave 3 stars because of careless delivery, bike wouldn't start & after paying full price, we had to replace major parts for bike to start, & the disappointment of my Grandson. However, after my Grandson rides it & if no further issues. I will be hlad to update star status!

It's more fun than I anticipated

I got this to put around camping. I was a little concerned about the weight limit as everyone who'll be riding it is an adult and a couple are well over 200lbs. But this thing did not falter! It's more fun than I anticipated. With the fat tires it'll go over pretty much anything in our way. Zero regret! If you're even considering a mini bike this one will not disappoint!

Mad as Hell

Bought the CT200U several days ago and can't find anyone to help. Wrote to Cust Support - this was ignored. Called later to get a teenage girl that knew nothing other than sending me a list of a dozen items I needed to supply most of which I already gave her: Model number, S/N. copy of receipt, description, picture, VIN, Details of issues and what caused them, etc, etc. Then I contacted a cust supp person on Facebook. He said he would look into my message. Haven't heard from him either!!! My issue is a loud squeal from the rear brake and a throttle the goes from stop to full speed. I didn't mention the bike was scratched badly when it was delivered. They did manage to send a can of paint. Thanks

this is a great minibike and my first one ever to ride in my life! this thing is nothing but fun and enjoyment and well worth $500 bucks! plus I defeted the throttle limit screw by Dremeling the tack weld on the bottom of the screw and took ot out and now instead of 20mph I get 25+ and I can understand why they cut it back on the speed as it was intended for younger people but once a full adult gets on I say open her up a bit. I love this minibike and highly recommend it!!

Awesome

I bought the bike so that I could ride along with my granddaughter. I had given her a mini-bike of another brand that was designed for a smaller person. This one carries me fine, and I'm 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. The only complaint I had was when UPS delivered it the box looked like it had been through a grinder! I had the driver wait until I inspected the bike and the only damage was a scratch on the handlebars.

Read this before you buy one
by dinosaurdoctor (5 out of 5 stars)
November 3, 2018

Before you buy, read the reviews for this mini bike. Amazon has decided to lump every motorized product that Coleman makes into one group, so you really don't know what anyone thinks about any one product. Up on the left side above the review you'll see the reviewers name, how many stars, the date and finally what they are giving the review for. Make sure you are reading the reviews for the model you're thinking about. Also most of the pictures of the CT200U are actually pictures of the CT100. If it has a rear disc brake it's the CT100. Take the time to read the reviews, it will help you make a good decision.

NEXT... UPS is going to attempt to destroy your new mini bike, mine actually had minimal damage despite spending a lot of its shipping time on one end which is clearly a no no if you read the side of the box. Apparently that's just too much for the drivers to do. If they handle yours the way they did mine you're guaranteed some missing paint and dents. Now to be fair, the box Coleman ships these in are not the best and clearly not UPS proof. Coleman has learned however to put the small pieces in a bag in a box which helps keep the hardware from being lost . They still need to learn what UPS proof means. If there is such a thing.

THE BIKE... Once you remove what's left of the box and can actually see your new friend, I would mount the front fork and front tire per the instructions. Once it's a roller you can check it over for damage and decide if you're going to go to war over the damage or not. Like I said, mine had minimal scrapes and no bends and everything was there so I opted not to complain. The only other things you need to do is add gas, engine oil, and lube the clutch bearing and chain. The clutch bearing on mine was never lubed at the factory and would have torn itself up if I hadn't read the reviews and known that was a problem. The rest of the bearings on the bike are sealed and shouldn't need your attention . I would put a wrench on sprocket bolts to make sure they are tight as a precaution.

All in all my fist impression is good. Seems to be a great bike that will surprise you in good ways. It's constucted well and hauls my two hundred pounds around quickly. Right now I am impressed and ready to ride some more. I'll be back to tell you more if there's a problem.

Happy trails.

Perfect Utility Vehicle
by Brad Isaly (5 out of 5 stars)
April 24, 2017

After buying hundreds of items online, this is the first time I've ever written a review. The short answer, is the Coleman CT 200 U is a tremendous machine, a ton of fun and utility, and well worth the price. I live on 2 hilly, wooded acres and try to keep it in good shape. After injuring my knee I started to look for a small scooter to get me around the property. After realizing most of the mobility scooters would not be able to handle my terrain I found this bike. After owning it for several weeks I can't believe I never thought to get one sooner. It is the ideal small utility vehicle, perfect for running tools between my truck and shed, food and drink to my campfire, water to my plants, taking out the trash, and spraying weeds with a back pack sprayer. I am 6'2" and 248 lbs and it moves me and my equipment with no problem. I mounted a milk crate on the front to carry small items and use the back rack for larger items. I backed the throttle screw out as far as I could without removing it and reached 32 MPH on the road with it. More than fast enough for me. I rode it through heavily overgrown woods, fields, and muddy trails which made this 42 year old smile like a 9 year old boy on Christmas Morning. If this one ever wears out I'll be ordering another one the same day. It does all of these things and still takes up little space in my garage.

Fun for all adults and teens and Family get-togethers. Buy It!
by MK (5 out of 5 stars)
January 15, 2017

A mini bike of this quality and This low of a price is amazing. The engine has more than enough power for this buggy. The 200lb weight limit is nothing, meaning I weigh 240lbs and it hauls me no problem. Not to mention it can be a wheelie monster. Also my brother in law weighs over 300lbs and he had a blast on it with no adverse structural damage to the bike. So don't pay mind to the weight limit. I had a minor issue straight out of the box where it wouldn't idle after you throttled it... However after about 30 min of riding it the issue resolved itself. I'm guessing it's because the engine was brand new and needed a little break in time before running perfectly. I've since put 3 tanks of fuel thru it and I have no complaints, only a suggestion for those thinking of purchasing it and already owning it. First, even though the tires say that you can put 10psi in them I would recommend 4-5psi, or the sit on it and check the tire squat method. I put 10psi in at first, and I every bump I hit made it feel like an all-terrain pogo stick. The lower pressure is better. It is a one pull start machine, meaning put the choke on, give it a tug and then it's running, then turn off the choke. Snow is no challenge for this machine, the all-terrain tires are great. Don't think about it, BUY IT! You won't regret it. Also those getting 25mph out of it...I put my gps speedometer on the front rack and pulled between 17-19mph on flat ground and 17mph on the slight uphill. (All on pavement). This bike is very easy to modify, tons of videos on YouTube adding a torque converter belt drive, front and rear suspension(if you can weld) all of which is in my bikes near future for me. Finally this is a fuel sipper, try and burn through the 1gal tank of gas before noon, I bet you can't. This is bike not for children! I recommend teen ages and up. This much power shouldn't be given to children.

Terrible package condition
by Lindsay Whitaker (3 out of 5 stars)
June 27, 2018

I just received the mini bike today and its awesome. Tons of fun to ride! Assembly was pretty easy took me 30min by myself. The only bad thing I noticed was the chain rattles while your accelerating. I was very disappointed with the condition the box came in when it was delivered. They placed it in the middle of my driveway straight up and down on one of the small sides instead of the bottom cardboard pallet side where it was supposed to be. Also the box it came in was in terrible condition. There were multiple holes throughout the box. The top was open. And half of the bottom cardboard pallet portion was gone so my rear tire was exposed. As for the mini bike. There are spots where the paint has been rubbed off down to the metal. I don't know what happened while they were shipping my package but I expected a package I paid almost $600 for would be handled with more care.

but it turned out to be a terrible waste of money
by E. Chavez (1 out of 5 stars)
July 30, 2018

We had high hopes for this bike as a birthday gift for our son, but it turned out to be a terrible waste of money. The box it arrived in was in shambles. The UPS delivery person said it would have arrived sooner but the box was falling apart and they had to wrap it in plastic just to keep it together. Several pieces of hardware were missing and I could not properly assemble the bike. Called customer support and they eventually sent the replacement nuts and bolts needed. After a few days of minimal use I noticed it was dripping oil from the engine. About three months later my son had just started riding it when I heard a loud clunking noise. It turns out the brake assembly had somehow malfunctioned, causing the rear wheel to lock up. We are very fortunate he was not thrown from the bike in the process. It is such a shame to see our son's hopes and expectations crushed with every little (and major) problems that keep arising with this bike.

We are now having to deal with customer support to see what our options are. Somehow I am thinking this will end up costing us more than we bargained for. In this case, you truly do get what you pay for!
