Awesome concept, cheaply made :-(by JONI REZAC (3 out of 5 stars)

My boys love battle bots and this is a real way that they can play and interact with them. My boys are 8, 6 & 4 and they can all operate and play with these bots, yes some better then others. But I am troubled by the junkiness of the battle arena. I exspect the robots themselves to get damaged after several battles but the arena looks like junk after just a couple of weeks of owning and setting it up. Almost instantly stickers started pealing off.
Here's how to fix it when it breaks

We got ours at Toys R Us. Great concept, great idea. I really like how the panels are loosely attached so it's shows damage - then can be easily put back on for another match.
The only problem is these things broke about 1 hour. The remote control broke, but I'll tell you how to fix it.
When you push the remote control buttons, you hear a positive clicking sound. If that click goes away (and that button doesn't work)... here's what you do. Open the remote up, it's put together with little plastic clips, just use a small screwdriver to carefully unclip the sides and open the top. Once open, you'll see a silver circle dot fallen over there (you'll immediately know what I mean). That silver dot is in fact the clicking mechanism that makes contact with the button. Look at it, you'll see that it's just taped in place. Not only is it only fastened with tape, but there's not much tape at all. Get some scotch tape and put the silver dot back where it belongs (you'll know where it goes). Might as well tape the other ones down as well, as they will be coming off soon enough anyways. Now click the remote control back together (face down with the outer plastic buttons in place). Now it's fixed. That'll save you from returning it, only to have the new one break as they are all held together with a small amount of TAPE.
These Hexbugs are expensive, I'd expect better build quality.
Some glitches made it unplayable often...

We purchased this set as a present for our kids. The set looks beautiful, and when it works, it plays beautiful but two things kept making this set unplayable often.
1. The middle of the arena bows upward which gets Tombstone stuck because the package bows the paper, it never really goes down properly. We tried to press it with a few books for a few hours to get it ti properly straighten out; to no avail.
2. Tombstones remote connectivity would drop off often, sometimes it would just stop working! This would stop the game play, we would have to reset the connectivity by switching both remote and bot on/off and reconnect to a different channel.
We ended up returning the product, they look beautiful but we got a bummed set, we think.
Cheap overpriced toy and mine was defective.

Zero stars if possible. I purchased this for my kids for Christmas and they weren't too excited. In retrospect I should have returned it and the extra bots and saved my $130. Today they lost video games and finally opened this toy. It has been sitting on a shelf in my sons closet and I'm outside my return period. The arena is cardboard and wasn't cut correctly during manufacturing process. The jagged edge leaves a lump that the bots can't go over. I have contacted the company in hopes of replacement but seriously $80 for a cardboard arena? It is cheap overpriced crap even if you get one that isn't defective. It could have easily been made of a thin plastic sheet and would have been much sturdier. That being said, the kids have been occupied for some time even though our kitchen floor has to suffice as the arena floor.
One robot is dominant

Great concept, easy to play, and tons of fun. The only problem is, one robot is significantly better then the other one. When playing, you need to switch up robots so each player has a turn with "the good robot." I looked in to buying more robots and they are expensive so we will not be investing more money. My son played this game at his friends house and immediately ordered it using his Amazon GC's when he got home. Boys love it and play it over and over again, girls (8 and 9) are interested for 1-2 rounds and move on.
Mini version of the real thing! So fun!

I have the original arena with the air pressure bots but this is as close as you get without actually making your own bot and putting it into a battlebots arena. The controls take a lot of practice but I love being able to knock pieces off which my bot's weapon. I'm ready to buy more bots and have a battle royal. The two hammers were mandatory and work very well. Unlike the original arena, there are no buzz saws in the floor which would've made for an interesting hazard during battles but other than that, no complaints. Great detail, easy and fun to build.
Good idea but frustrating for my 6 year old.

My son loves battlebots and he is 6 years old. He loves the gift in theory but gets frustrated when playing with the toy. He keeps coming back to it though. However the remotes unlink with the bots or all the bots link up to 1 remote. It gets frustrating to continue to reset them, change out the batteries in the remote, etc. I often have to intervene and when his friends are over to play, they are often not patient enough for him to get everything set up. His friends have lost interest by the time he gets it all set up.

Broke within the first few minutes of play.

Bought the Arena along with the Minotaur and Beta expansion pack. Beta's hammer broke off within the first 3 minutes. A piece broke off of Minotaur within the first 10 minutes of play. Finally, Tombstone and WitchDoctor are on the same frequency and cannot be used to play against each other ... embarrassing product, the Bots ought to be built strong enough to withstand each other.
But my used everything works

this was my sons favorite present. He was disappointed that the hammers and choppers we not automatic but then again he was shocked that it dint shoot the flames that the arena does on TV. Either way him and his friends played for quite a while on these things. You have to keep on them to not louse the little parts that fly off. each one I think has 3 parts that will come off them.
