Great Idea. . . Poor Executionby Channing West (2 out of 5 stars)

Like most other purchasers of the Shock Clock, I am an incredibly heavy sleeper. I'll put it this way, on nights that I could potentially get a few hours of sleep (2-5 hours) I will usually just pull an all-nighter because I know I will sleep through my very loud alarm clock that will often wake up my roommates in their bedrooms.
I purchased the Shock Clock as a last ditch effort to avoid pulling unnecessary all-nighters. I have had the Shock clock for six months now, and I hate to say it, but I am quite disappointed in the product. For the first month I owned the device, I loved it. I was able to reliably get out of bed without getting 7+ hours of sleep. However, the reliability of the product began to plummet after the first month. At this point, my product rarely works. When I say the product doesn't work, I don't mean that I sleep through it; I mean that the watch will not zap. I have tested it many times. I will get a full night of sleep, wake up using my traditional alarm, and wait for the Shock Clock to go off. More times than not, there is no electrical impulse. When there is a shock, it is barely strong enough to feel at all, even at the highest shock setting. Once again, I have began pulling unnecessary all-nighters because of the fear of sleeping through my alarm.
I really wish I could recommend this product, but I cannot. Maybe I just received a faulty unit, but it's the only one I have to review. I would gladly change my review if I was given a properly functioning product, but until then, I would not recommend buying this product. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one star is because its a great idea for a product, just poorly executed.
Broken Twice and Their Warranty is a Lie.

I have purchased this product twice because I liked the shocking function but both times the product has broke after a short period of time. As a mechatronics engineer who has taken the unit apart, it is a poorly designed and that has caused it to be prone to breaking. But I give them credit, when it works, its a great concept. They said they would get a replacement unit to me, but 6 weeks later, I still have not received a replacement unit despite checking in with them every week. Given the price and emptiness of their warranty, I would advise against purchasing this product.
Bottom line: I haven't slept in once in the four days since receiving this product.

If I could break this down into more specific ratings, I'd give five stars for concept, three stars for implementation, two stars for support.
I've had trouble waking up for most of my life. I've tried super loud alarms, wearable alarms, alarms across the room, alarms that roll away, alarms that require shaking/math/QR codes, phone calls... anything I could think of. No matter what kind of alarm I have, I don't wake up. Even if it wakes me up, I instantly fall back asleep, usually with no memory of being woken up before. My sleepy brain always says "five more minutes," and I'm instantly back asleep.
With the Shock Clock, I gave myself a few test zaps when I first received the package. 10% I can't feel, 20% I can feel, 30% I don't like (but it doesn't hurt, it's just unpleasant). So I set an alarm for a 30% shock to go off in the morning, thirty seconds after a vibration warning. I also have a Fitbit with a vibration alarm, but I never have any memory of turning it off, so I didn't expect the vibration to be enough. It definitely is! Somehow, even my sleepy brain knows the shock is following this vibration, and I'm wide awake.
I've set up the Chrome extension to zap me at just 20% when I open social media sites during working/sleeping hours, and used Tasker and IFTTT to do the same on my phone. It was crazy how quickly my habit of endlessly scrolling through Facebook was broken.
I've gained a ton of productive time in just the few days I've had this product, and I look forward to using it for more and more things in my life.
Now the negative: I don't feel like there's nearly enough support or documentation for a device that actually shocks you with electricity. Customer service took a long time to answer my questions compared to other companies, and they didn't provide nearly enough detail. I got better support from other customers on the Facebook page. I also encountered a LOT of dissatisfied customers. I expect that the support will continue to improve over time, but for right now, it's quite lacking.
I still can't get the jumping jacks to work as a way of turning off the alarm, which is the primary reason I bought this device. There is also a rather loud tone that plays along with the jumping jacks which I can't find any mention of anywhere except in conversations with other users, which rather defeats the purpose of having a silent alarm that won't disturb a partner. Then again, jumping jacks probably disturb partners too, but I'm still disappointed.
The hand detection for smoking/nail biting/mindless eating is very hit or miss. I wanted to stop playing with my hair, but it only catches about half the time my hand reaches for my head. It also catches about half the time I try to eat, brush my teeth, or hug someone. So I have to go into the app and adjust settings multiple times a day to discourage playing with my hair while working. Not terrible, but annoying. Thankfully, a simple reminder vibration is enough to discourage me from playing with my hair, so I'm not getting zapped all day long.
Another concern is that at this time, the company is completely sold out, so I don't know where Amazon is getting their stock. I purchased mine through Amazon, and Pavlok customer service told me that the packaging material I received with mine was out of date. Hopefully the documentation with the new ones is better.
Except for the product pictures, I can't find any instructions on how to use the Milanese band, which is the only one that came with my Pavlok, despite the picture on the packaging showing the plastic/rubber band. Once I figured out the magnetic clip that holds the device in the band it was easy, but while figuring it out I felt like I was going to break it. On the bright side, after a little trial and error, I like it, and it looks good with my matching silver Milanese band for my Fitbit. Whether or not I look good with wearable tech on each wrist is more debatable, haha.
Bottom line: I'm annoyed about and disappointed in some aspects of this product, but I've been up since 7:00 this morning, and I am posting here instead of Facebook. I've already purchased a second device for my sister, and after seeing mine, a friend has bought one as well.
great idea, but device is said to defective and No support to help

2019-10-10: Update now the shocking intensity is null.
I was totally ripped off. If I could give zero stars I would. The very thing they claim and their main feature (the shock) dies in time
Two main issues:
first, the electric intensity to wake up will DRASTICALLY drop fairly quickly. Attempts to reach Pavlok will get responses... But promises will be holllow... Empty even... I've done the resets and tested the device but the issue persisted. Attempts to get help were initially quick and provided some software suggestions.. But when those didn't work I was told they would look for firmware updates to fix the issue. I've never noticed an update that addressed the intensity issue..
Second, the mesh band is defective which is an issue pavlok is keenly aware of ... I was promised a silicon version to hold me over... Again lots of talk with little action... re silicon band was 'ordered' but I won't receive for at least a month... So in the meantime I can't wear nor use this device I paid hundreds of dollars.
Pavlok has made many promises and delivered on none. Their staff is friendly but this isn't acceptable. The device is not cheap and if defective should be replaced within a reasonable amount of time not months. I shouldn't have to follow up on a schedule to make sure I'm delivered promised replacements.
The concept is great but the device isn't reliable and support isn't able to execute within a reasonable timeframe.
I wouldn't recommend the product. People at pavlok seem nice but there is a massive disconnect or communication failures. You can't admit you are aware of failures and not deliver to fix previous issues for something that costs this much money. This isn't a 20 or 50 dollar device. This was originally 139... For that price it needs to work as described. And if it doesn't it should be replaced

I was hesitant from reading some reviews about it failing or not working as expected but after using it for about 1.5 months, I have decided it was definitely worth it. I decided to give it a shot because it's a pretty ingenious idea and I was desperate for a fail proof method to
Major heavy sleeper here. I usually have 15 different alarms set to go off in a span of 2.5 hours, always the loudest, most obnoxious sounds I can find. I've tried the vibrating kind under the pillow with vibrating fitness watches all set at the same time and still cannot count on it to break through my coma.
The shock this thing delivers will definitely resurrect the heaviest sleepers. I was worried it just be another stimuli my brain tunes out like everything else but no. There were already a couple of mornings I might have slept in for work, and I was saved because this thing shocked the mess out of me and jarred me awake.
I have it set to make me do jumping jacks to shut off, which I hate so when I wake up before the alarms, I immediately turn the alarms before it sets off. It can also tell if you're just waving it around in your hand or you're doing real jumping jacks. Great incentive to wake up on the first alarm, if you also have a problem with snoozing in the morning. I use this as my safety net alarm because I don't want to be shocked like this every morning. It feels so great to have this assurance and ease my anxiety about getting to work on time.
My only complaint is the design of the armband. You have to pop the block out of a cheap, flimsy plastic framing to charge it. It's tricky to remove and click back into place with out it coming apart. I've had to put it back together several times and there's a tiny metal bar holding it together that is very easily lost. If they could design a better armband, I would have given it 5 stars.
All in all, WORTH IT!! I'd rather be out $130 if it means I won't be out of a job for a dumb reason. I'll edit this review later if it fails and document the life span. It's so brilliant and effective, I'd probably still buy another one in 6 months if it died. Not a bad deal in my opinion. Hope this helps.
Updates have destroyed product

This product, which I bought for the most minimal task of shock-waking me up in the morning, worked well for several months. However, subsequent updates have progressively made the product unreliable, requiring jumping through hoops to make even this basic functionality work. The last update appears have left the app user interface unable to remain onscreen after loading, leaving no way to set the alarms. A good idea implemented by shoddy engineering.
Best for alarms. Nothing else used.

I only use the shock alarm clock, so i can't really vouch for any other features of this really expensive watch. It reliably wakes me up every morning that my blaringly loud bazooka speaker alarm fails to. Every time i want to change the alarms configuration, i have to fight with the watch and force restart it by holding the button down for 10 secs and resetting the Bluetooth on my phone sometimes even multiple times before it connects. Therefore i Wouldn't recommend this watch for any other reason besides waking up on a very consistent weekly schedule in the morning. The band that came with the watch broke due to me forcefully jerking it off every morning in my wake up zombie mode, but i bought a rubber one from their website that came with the original pavlok 1, and it seems to do much better. The newer metal one has tons of tiny chain links that get caught on my arm hairs and feel like it's shocking me non stop, plus it's really annoying to take the shocker piece in and out of the holder, plus it always falls loose and navigates up and down my arm because there's no snap or belt buckle, there's just a magnet that untightens all the time. so i had already hated that one anyway. If you have arm hair, do yourself a favor and buy the pavlok 1's rubber wristband by contacting pavlok email support and asking for the link to buy one. I started with my pavlok on 10% shock and over time made my way up to 50% since half the time the 10, 20, & 30% ones aren't even reliable and don't go off (and sometimes i just don't wake up from them), but the 50% shock is both reliable and wakes me up from my sleep of death i fall into every night. I also learned to have it on a alarm setting that starts with vibrate, then beep, then shock, and then non stop repeat that process with 30 secs in between each action so that i 1. Can take it off before being shocked if I'm awake before it, 2. Have enough time to take it off before the second shock when i wake up from the first one (which wakes me up every time), and 3. If by chance the first shock doesn't wake me up, I'll have many backups afterwords.
The shock REALLY does wake you up. Like, i can't even fall back asleep like i used to daily anymore even though i still try my best to 😂.
IF YOU HAVE HEART PROBLEMS, A PACEMAKER OR OTHER HEART RELATED IMPLANTS, HAVE HAD A HEART ATTACK IN THE PAST, HAVE A FAMILY HISTORY OF HEART ATTACKS AND ARE OF AGE TO HAVE ONE, OR HAVE ANY OTHER REASON TO BELIEVE YOU MAY HAVE ONE (e.g. you're a smoker in your 30's+), DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT! Shocking yourself can easily cause cardiac arrest in ppl that are prone to having it. Shocking makes your heart rate surge, and that's why it wakes you up. I even use this when my stimulant medication i take for sleeping issues wears off at work and i get sleepy. It really makes me jump and be active again. I also sometimes shock myself if I'm still having trouble getting out of bed in the morning even though I'm awake.
The battery life is pretty superb, but then again I'm only using it once per day so your mileage may vary. If you have terrible trouble getting out of bed, this is for you. If not, you probably wanna wait till it gets better developed into a more Bluetooth-friendly product. (Bluetooth is this company's natural enemy apparently, they haven't figured out how to tame the beast that is the blue ocean's shark tooth yet).
It is everything it is advertised to be. I couldn't be happier.

I can't recommend this enough. I have struggled with getting up in the morning for as long as I can remember and nothing else has worked. I end up getting five alarms and sometimes still sleep through them, only annoying my partner. No exaggeration- the FIRST NIGHT I tried the watch, it worked. The vibrate went off and I was wide awake, knowing that I had a short time before it would beep a few times and then it would shock me. Then the beep started and I remembered I had selected the option to require jumping jacks for the alarm to go off. So it MADE ME GET OUT OF BED and get my heart and muscles going. Being so proud of myself, my morning started off so much better than it has in ages. This watch has options to customize the wake up experience for what's best for you. You can change the intensity or loudness of the vibrate, beep, and shock. It also has a sleep tracker like a Fitbit does. The shock is no joke. I had it at 50% when I tested it and it made me Yelp and drop what I was holding. My coworker tried it at 100% and it was enough to be a strong stimulation but not leave a lasting hurt. I really recommend this as a great way to get up without disturbing your partner or anyone within alarm ear shot.
funny is, I don't even need the alarm most ...

Probably would have been unemployed and homeless by now, after going through a divorce, constant insomnia, Depression and trying to deal with PTSD. Hating my job. Getting up is almost impossible. Thank you. Actually the stimulation hit, it gives me a boost of adrenaline and makes it simple for me to get moving! Simply an electrifying morning every day... funny is, I don't even need the alarm most days.
Kind of worthless

I should have know that this thing was a gimmick. Its a neat idea, but the execution is kind of poor. The band is cheap and rubbery making you sweat. The Vibrations are very weak they were enough to wake me up; but to give you an idea of the intensity, its not much better then having your phone vibrating on the bed next to you. The shock is surprising at first but set to 100% and fully charged doesn't even register as a pinch as far as pain goes. (I had three different people try this just to make sure that it wasn't just me) The application is well thought out and works great, I never had an issue pairing the device and the alarm settings always worked. The battery life is excellent, I only charged it 4 or five times and it never fell below 50% battery. That being said I've used the device for 3 weeks and its just kind of worthless, its a total gimmick, Which is disappointing I had big hopes that this would help me wake up and get up in the morning which is why I used it for 3 solid weeks even though I knew after the second day that it wasn't worth anywhere close to the price I paid for it.
