Product Description

Cryptex is a special container with a mechanical combination lock (rotating rings with letters or digits), which people used hundreds of years ago to keep secrets. Inside the cylinder there was a chamber where you could keep a piece of paper with secret data.
Today it's better to use a USB flash drive for data storage. Cryptex USB flash drive was engineered in accordance with original sketches by Leonardo Da Vinci.
A mechanical combination lock protects your digital data. You need to know the 5-digit code to gain access to the USB flash drive hidden inside. Only those who know the password can use it. A great way not only to protect the information, but also to add an element of a game into everyday life.

Features

  • WORLD-CLASS USB STICK: brass coloured, 32gb password-protected USB flash drive. Position the five rings to unlock the USB. Patterned after the Cryptex, from Dan Browns 2003 novel The Da Vinci Code, referring to a portable vault used to hide secret messages. Only the one who has the password can unlock the Cryptex and access the USB stick.x
  • BUILT TO LAST: Heavy-duty metal that feels solid. Measures 6.5 x 2 x 2 cm. 32gb capacity with solid build quality, perfect for a gift or those with style. Giant 32 GB digital storage capacity can hold hundreds of mp3 files, thousands of digital images, a vast array of apps and games, programs, hundreds of files, or even entire movies. Fast connections mean easy, quick, and simple downloads and uploads of your important digital files.
  • OPEN WITH A SECRET CODE: Position the rings to remove the USB. This is no normal USB flash drive! The drive can only be accessed if the user knows the secret code. Position the five rings at the Cryptexs raised edge perfectly to unlock the USB. This mechanical combination securely seals your digital information, and only those with the password can access it. Not only does this protect your sensitive digital files, but it adds an element of style, game, and drama every time you use it.
  • INSPIRED BY THE DA VINCI CODE: The Cryptex was a portable vault used to hide secret messages it comes from the Greek words for hidden and device and functions much like a bicycle combination lock, where tumblers align and the cylinder or in this case, the USB drive dramatically slides out.
  • SAFETY AND STABILITY: Despite its timeless looks, on the inside, this flash drive is thoroughly modern, with high-quality aluminum alloy that uses the most advanced smart chips boasting magnetic resistance and high-temperature resistance to ensure long life and dependable digital file storage. Wide compatibility with most systems such as Win XP/Vista/7/8/10/2000/ME/NT Linux / Mac OS, etc. A built-in key ring means this can easily be secured to a key ring, carabiner.

It works, just the design fell short of expectations
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)

This item works well and i can appreciate the design, my only annoyance is that you can't change the combination, so theoretically, these could all have the same combo and could be accessed by anyone in the know. Granted the likelihood is extremely low, but i would have liked to have be told that prior to buying. Just a personal quirk, but if that doesn't bother you, then i would definitely recommend the product.

I have a thing for the Steampunk genre, so when I needed a new drive to store sensitive files for work, there was no other option. It's a little bit of a bummer that you can't program the code yourself, but not a big issue when you actually get to use it and dazzle your coworkers. No matter what finish you get it in, it will be a treasure even after it's outlived its use.

Drive is removable
by Noemi Dominguez (4 out of 5 stars)

It's a quality product and does exactly what it's supposed to do. The unit I received was in great condition and the tumblers rotated smoothly. I notice that several reviews were concerned about the easily accessible screws mitigating the security. My unit seems to have addressed this with tertiary security screws.

The only issue I have with the product it the size of the storage. I attempted to contact the company to address the possibility of replacing the drive but they never responded. In the end I bit the bullet and pulled mine apart to see how it works. The drive is held in with hot glue. Just heat it up and the old drive slides right out. The slot is fairly small so not just any drive it's going to fit. To be precise the slot is 12mm. I managed to find a 512gb drive to replace the original.

Pretty disappointing, if I'm going to be honest.

It's okay, I guess I was just expecting it to be better put together. The dials are incredibly hard to turn, so I don't see myself particularly wanting to use this that often. The point of purchase was for a bit of security, not to be completely inconvenient. I now wish I'd sprung for the extra money to get one with a keypad, as this will be a curiosity at best. On top of the difficulty turning the dials, you are unable to set your own combination, and unable to roll the the dials to hide your combination while the drive is out or you'll have to reset it to get the drive back in. Buyer's remorse within minutes of unpacking and getting a good look at what the product actually is.

I like the concept, but the flash memory died after 4 months
by Tony (1 out of 5 stars)

Like the concept; however, the quality of the flash memory inside is questionable. Mine became completely unwritable and sporadically unreadable after 4-months of occasional use. Decided to replace it with the model that allows me to purchase my own microSD card to use in it, that way I can be sure to use a reliable brand of flash memory.

Looks amazing, feels amazing, works like a cheap piece of crap
by Dan Boyle (1 out of 5 stars)

The lock was what it promised, a cypher thumb drive.

It looked like I expected it to, it was heavy and felt strong as one would expect; however 3/5 wheels were lose and spun with no resistance making it extremely difficult to enter the combination. If i picked it up for $10 loose mechanics would be acceptable, but after shipping and tax this was $80 for a 16gb flashdrive housed in crappy, poorly fabricated material. Could have bought 20 cheap 16gb thumbs for that price if i was looking for cheap storage. I paid for the quality and uniqueness and it was a lunch bag let down. Bought it as a present so I can't really return it, but would never order an other one.

Quite unhappy with this product.
by Joyce L Bell (1 out of 5 stars)

It arrived quickly and is quite unique in appearance. It is totally worthless, however. I was able to download files to it the first time I plugged it in and haven't been able to use it since. Neither my laptop nor desktop computer acknowledges it. Cannot open it at all. Quite unhappy with this expensive trinket. Everything I've googled says to trash it because USB memory bars fail all the time.

Great Product

Great novelty, conversation piece and functioning memory stick. Kind of bummed that you can't customize the code, but I wouldn't knock off a star for something I knew about when ordering. Mine looks just like the photo, with nice worn (looking) brass. Number dials all turn easily and stay in position. Confirmed 16GB USB drive works. As some have pointed out, yes, you could technically remove the screws holding the cryptex together. To remedy this you can either: (1) apply locktite to the screws and never worry about it again, or (2) just make sure the screws aren't loose and don't act like this thing is holding government secrets.

Cool conversation piece, that is its strongest feature. You can't help but feel cool using it.

Cool little gadget. I cut the plastic strap off and put it on my keychain. I don't know what kind of drive is in it but I had a rough time getting it properly partitioned and setup how I wanted. Windows disk manager was unable to do hardly anything with this drive, I had to use diskpart and a disk utility I have on my MacBook to get it setup right.

My only real beef is the capacity vs price. I am wondering if I can break the drive out of it and replace it with a better one down the road. If they make one that took microsd cards they would have a winner and I'd buy it instantly.

Fun idea for a stylish USB
by Blythe,Top Contributor: Pets (4 out of 5 stars)

Cute idea, the strap part is pretty cheap plastic but I replaced it with real leather. The comments from some earlier purchasers about accessible screw heads on the bottom seem to have been addressed, they were covered over in the one I purchased. Code still cannot be changed. Still, made a fun novelty gift.
