With in a couple months there was mold on the bottoms and I was unable to separate it and get to the very bottom to clean it. My husband is very mechanically inclined and he couldn't get them apart either. Before the mold grew I also ordered replacement filters. I followed the directions of soaking them in cold water and the first one wouldn't pass any water through it. So there goes a bunch of money the other one did work but I payed for 2 expecting 2... it's a beautiful design but unfortunately it only took a couple months before it went in the trash.

I'm writing about issues that I have with my Soma water filter. It's the 10-cup carafe and I purchased it on Amazon in July 2017. I've switched the filters a few times and subscribed to the 60-day replacement filter program through Soma. The issues I'm having are: 1. mold; and 2. very slow filtration. The carafe seems to constantly get moldy, and despite frequent cleanings, it keeps coming back. This weekend I discovered a patch of black mold between the filter and plastic section that holds the filter, and I couldn't remove it even with soaking in bleach. See photo below. At this point, I don't think this carafe is safe for my family anymore so I'm no longer going to use it. The second issue I have is related to slow filtration. The unit takes a very long time to filter the water and water ends up sitting in the upper section of the carafe for a very long time, making it difficult to pour filtered water out of the carafe. If you try to pour, it doesn't separate the filtered water from the non-filtered, so it all just comes out together and you have to wait for the entire amount to filter before pouring. It also spills very easily while pouring.
Very easy to use

This water pitcher is better than other water pitcher purifiers I have had in the past. The water in my city has a strong chlorine taste and this totally filters that out. It is easy to fill with the weighted lid it has in the top. You can just pour water in to it without having to hold it open. The filter is easy to install. I keep it out on my counter because it is not a big eye sore like the other bulky plastic pitchers. The wood handle and glass design are very appealing. I feel like the glass keeps the water just a little cooler and just seems more sanitary to me.
Nice looking filter that does NOT work

This filter is junk - if it filters any water at all it is very slow to do so. Do yourself a favor and stick with the tried and true brands like Brita and Pur. Stay away from this nice looking non-functional water filter, you will be very disappointed if you buy one.
When we put water in the filter part it usually just sits there and will never filter any water at all, it just stays in the filter part. Sometimes it will actually filter and it is more of a drop every few seconds, it will take 30minutes to an hour to get your measly 10 cups... Junk
Mold build up

Liked the look but performance was less than favorable. Mold builds up quickly around rim where you can't easily detach and clean, as seen in pictures. We do not recommend this product.
Pretty but ineffective

I really wanted to love it - it's by far the prettiest water pitcher out there. They also sponsor a water charity whch is admirable. But it's performance leaves a lot to be desired. We had two major issues with it. First, it doesn't pour very well - the water tends to gush out and spill all over unless you are very careful and gentle tipping it over to pour, especially when trying to fill up narrower water bottles. And second and bigger issues - as many have pointed, the filter is probably one of the most underwhelming on the market in terms of what it does. Even on their website there is little information about what the filter does/how it works. Till recently Soma was certified to only filter chlorine, taste and odor. As other have pointed out, in independent tests that filter performed worst in terms of how much chlorine it filters. We didn't independently test it ourselves, but our water (we already have an all-house filter, so this is 3nd filtration) tested quite differently - and not in a good away compared to the brita we used before. Also, after using it for less than 3 months, the plastic housing close to the pouring spout acquired a pale yellowish color on the outside and even though water from the sink was normal color, water in the pitcher became sight yellow (seems to indicate presence of iron - but not sure where that can come from). It seems recently Soma did get their filters certified to NSF 53 as well for copper and mercury to get it a little closer to what most of the competitors are filtering (or claim to be filtering) - but overall it's still mostly a beautiful filter with low performance. If you really want/need your water to be filtered, look elsewhere. We replaced it with acquagear which has been tested to filter all the usual suspects plus lead, fluoride, Chromium-6, chlorine, chloramines and industrial and agricultural runoff.
Love it

Absolutely love this water filter! Notice a difference in my water and would recommend to anyone! It is the perfect addition to my refrigerator and the water tastes so fresh!
Incredibly disappointing, non-functional filter

Having given it a shot for a few months with a couple filters, we're calling it quits and getting rid of it. The filters are faulty, barely ever letting water through - after hours and hours - and after following their instructions, tips, etc. none of which should be necessary. I wanted to support this company and this product, but it needs to function.
Worse than Brita

I bought this because I read a review that stated Soma is an upgrade to a Brita, which is exactly what I wanted to do. The filter is amazingly slow compared to a Brita, plus you have to soak it and throw out the first 3 pitchers like old Brita filters. The worst part is the water doesn't taste as good as a Brita. The design is beautiful but I will never understand the decision to put a wooden handle that you can't get wet on a water pitcher. I wonder if I can return it?

I was so excited for this pitcher because of its design, quality, and story. Unfortunately when it arrived it had already been opened with scratches, water marks, and the filter unpackaged.
My first hint was that the sticker covering the box was undone and had dirt on it. Then I open it up and the plastic bag for the filter is lying on top of the pitcher with the filter already installed in the pitcher.
The plastic was also all scratched up.
The design is awesome, ok

The design is awesome, ok, but it is a filtering pitcher that do not filter the way you would expect. I have installed the filter as instructed, and it was filtering drop by drop. So, it is not useful at all and I returned the product...
