Product Description

Kids can have so much fun playing the bug-building Cootie game. Players roll the die and hope that it lands on a Cootie bug part that they need for their bug. The first player to create a complete bug wins! The game comes with colorful, plastic bug bodies, heads, head accessories, legs, mouth pieces, and eye pieces for creating crazy critters. As they play, kids can be creative while mixing and matching the pieces to make their bugs. What kind of Cootie bug will your child build? Unbelievably cheap

The concept of this game is great. I remember it as a child and I thought my child would enjoy it too. Unfortunately this version is manufactured so cheaply it makes the product worthless.

The games comes with all the pieces needing to be punched out of the plastic. Not too big of a deal, except that they were too rigid to do with just your fingers. I got out some wire cutters to help. There are a million pieces. So if your 3-year-old really really wants to play the new game that just came, I suggest you get it ready before you unveil.

There is so much variation between the pieces that some fit too snugly, while others are too loose and fall out, and others won't connect at all. Very frustrating for a young person especially.

Instead of the pieces all being the same as they were when I was a kid, all the parts are different. So if someone chooses the bow and you wanted the bow, you're going to throw a fit and ruin the game because there is only one.

Skip this one even if you really wanted to get it to relive your childhood. Maybe look for the original at thrift stores or yard sales.

This new addition is crappy and cheap

OK, I am 67 years old. As a child and with my own children, I played Cooties a lot.

This new addition is crappy and cheap, what a disappointment. Inferior in every way.

Will look for a vintage game, maybe at a garage sale

The game is fun but much of the pleasure is ruined by the fact none of the plastic pieces either fit or stay in the head/body. Impossible to build a Cootie. Just have to lay parts in front of you.

New colors and new plastic
by Tiffany (5 out of 5 stars)

This new version doesn't work well with the slightly older cootie game, which is a disappointment because we were loving our cootie game and wanted more colors and replacements for the broken and missing parts. The legs aren't interchangeable between the bodies. The newer plastic for the yellow parts is thicker and less brittle so it makes for easier use and a lot less breakage. The die now has pictures of the part collecting, and the game board to hold the pieces waiting to be chosen is smaller. I kind of liked the regular die better because we were using an extra large die and that was fun for passing around with small children and how often you had to roll the die especially as you were waiting for all those 6 rolls to get the legs. The different color legs are fun. It is overall an improved version and still a fun game to play with little kids, they love creating their little cutie bug from all those choices. Mine was an open crushed box and one piece was missing, but my amazon warehouse price was lower than usual. I was purchasing for replacement parts, so I didn't mind, but now with all the changes I wish I would have purchased a new unopened game. This new version is nicer.

Poor quality compared to past versions
by Crystal (3 out of 5 stars)

Not the same as when I was a kid. The quality is lower, and very hard to push the pieces into the bug. Be prepared to spend a long time punching out the piece then sanding the sharp bits down. I miss the thick cardboard piece to stick all the pieces in when playing. Now everything is just in a pile. I also dislike the random legs. It wasn't as fun for my 3.5 year old since she couldn't push any of the pieces in herself. She has the old version at preschool and was so excited that I bought this but that quickly ended once we starting playing this newer subpar version. I would have gladly paid a little more for a better quality product. Even the box is near paper thin and won't hold up as a storage box.

Fun game, cheap product

I loved this game as a little kid, so I got it for my kids for Christmas. They also love it, but beware: the quality is very low. It was incredibly difficult to assemble-they send all the plastic pieces attached to their plastic frames, like the last person in the factory line was let go. It's actually pretty difficult to put the pieces together while playing too, which is the opposite of the intention for a game for little kids! They don't make them like they used to, etc etc, but if it's under $10, still worth it for the amusement. Just set your expectations low.

Badly fitting parts
by Kit McIlvaine (GirlPluggedN) (2 out of 5 stars)

Remember the cootie you had as a kid? The pieces were smooth and fit together? This ain't that. The legs are really tight so if there is a fine motor deficit, there will be frustration. The heads fall off any time you touch the cootie. I was so excited for this as an ABA toy, but it just sits in the you box BC nobody wants to play with it.

Fun game with some slight annoyances
by Mama V (4 out of 5 stars)

The game is fun for young kids. We have enjoyed playing it often with our soon to be 4 year-old. To me, the small drawbacks to this set are a couple of things. 1. The initial startup requires you to snap apart all of the plastic pieces from their mold. It was time consuming and just not easy at all. My fingers hurt! They were difficult to snap off and some pieces I ended up needing a strong scissor. 2. The box is very flimsy, almost like heavy cardstock. My son ended up ripping it accidentally. Also, the style of box leaves many areas open where the tiny pieces could fall out. In the end, I spent a bunch of time taping up most of the box to seal the edges and make it stronger. Also, I keep all of the pieces in a gallon size ziploc bag before putting in the box. Certainly, the price was right for me and we enjoy it.

Quality of pieces and box really disappointing
by Mary Kelley (1 out of 5 stars)

I had bought a Cootie Game used from a thrift store. The game was probably well over 10 years old. My 4 year old loved playing with it. It unfortunately was missing 2 or 3 pieces so I decided to get her a new one for Christmas. Was I shocked at the quality of the game. It started with the box. It literally was not much thicker than heavy writing paper. It felt apart when I was opening the box. Even the game pieces were such less quality plastic then the used one from years ago. The plastic was so cheap it was almost weightless and the Cootie would not stay together right. My sister told me a few of the pieces broke after only playing a few times. I was actually embarrassed that I was giving it as a gift. Thank god it was for a child. Definitely not worth the price I paid.

Poor quality

I was hoping this would be the fun bug-building game I remembered from years ago. Unfortunately, it was a source of frustration for the 4-y-o and the two adults attempting to play it. The pieces do not fit well together, and some pieces keep falling out. It was a struggle for this adult just to remove the plastic pieces to assemble the game. Very cheap. Very poor quality. I wish I hadn't bothered.
