Extremely fun and unique quad with some software glitchesby Abel Fonseca (3 out of 5 stars)

I got this quad about 3 months ago. Can't get enough of it! Its very fun and easy to fly. Does loops and rolls and 360s with the press of a button and has silky smooth flight. I love flying it off my balcony and wind down after work. Its transitions seamlessly from quad mode to plane mode. The visual slow sensor works very holding position and altitude, this makes it very friendly for a noobie. The battery lasts about 7 minutes which is enough, I recommend you get at least two batteries. Fly pad feels very well made and is quite ergonomic, almost like a game console controller. Now the not so good. There are some issue and glitches with the software. If you customize the buttons and then attempt to fly the swing only using you flypad (not paired to phone), it will get stuck in plane mode as soon as you press one of the L2 or R2 keys and it will go forward until either you catch it or it hits something. If you perform a hard reset, then you can fly it with your fly pad, but as soon as you try to customize the controls, the problem will reappear. This issue dont happen if you fly with you flypad paired with your phone (which is cumbersome) or with your smart phone only (which sucks). I have also experienced some mid flight disconnects where the quad just reverts back to quad mode and just stands there until it regains connection. It has happened while it is fairly close to me so I can rule it that I flew it out of range. It also doesn't like wind too much, but thats expected with such a light quad, so no points deducted for that. I emailed parrot about these issues but in the end they couldn't give me any solution to the problem, so I gave up flying it without the phone paired to the flypad. Its a super fun and unique little quad though, but parrot needs to fix those software issues in a firmare upgrade. I would give it a solid 5 stars if it wasn't for these bugs. If they sort them out, I will come back and update my rating.

Brand new, sealed box. NO BATTERY...only the empty white cardboard sleeve it's supposed to come wrapped in. SMH! Thanks, Parrot. Great frigging QC ya got there! UPDATE: Seller was very nice and called me! Made sure I got a Parrot battery asap. It arrived by mail very quickly. Love flying the Swing. I now have 3 of them, because it's so much fun flying together at the park. The Swing is a surprisingly well designed drone with intelligent features we didn't expect. Make sure you UPDATE your firmware in the drone, and RE-PAIR it with the Flypad, EVEN if it seems to work. Otherwise, when you tilt into any of the 3 levels of horizontal flight, you may completely lose control of the drone. So, if you don't heed my advice, at least test it by going into 1st level horizontal flight at 3ft altitude, so you have a chance to chase it and keep it from flying away without control. I cannot stress how important this is.
Great Fun, Easy to Fly, Minor Issues

I bought two of these, one as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law, and one for myself. Naturally, I have been testing it using mine to make sure it is a good gift. I currently have put in a little over an hour in flight time with this Parrot Swing. It is very fun and easy to fly, it is affordable, but there is one issue that can ruin a flight.
My first impressions when opening the box was pleasant as the drone is packaged very well. The possibility of receiving a damaged drone from shipping will be very rare. The package comes with both the drone, and the fly pad. The fly pad is built very well, it feels like an Xbox One controller and seems to match the quality of one too. It comes with a mount that you can attach to the controller so that you can mount your phone. With the phone mounted to the controller, you get details about your flight such as such as time and battery life. You simply pair your drone and fly pad to your phone via Bluetooth and the free flight Parrot app. Of course, you always have the option to fly via your phone if you choose not to use the fly pad. The Parrot Swing itself is very light and very delicate feeling. I was a little concerned about its ability to handle the occasional crash. Otherwise, it seems that it is built well. It has a camera and some sensors on the bottom to help it take off, land, and sustain positioning when you choose to let it hover. It also has a power button on the side.
Before flying the drone, be sure to get the firmware update. You can easily do this through the free flight app via Bluetooth. It only takes a couple minutes. Then you are ready to fly. The first flight went well, I just flew around in drone mode to get use to the controls. This thing is very impressive for lift off, maintaining its position, and landing. When you first take off, you literally push one button and nothing else. The drone will maintain its initial take off altitude and positioning with zero input from the user. It is very similar to the GPS enabled drones. It will even fight wind automatically to maintain position. It really works well. The battery lasts about 6 minutes give or take 30 seconds, so there is a pretty good amount of flight time for a charge.
first time I put it into plane mode, was the first time that I had an issue, and it was frustrating. I went to a big, open parking lot with very few trees in the area. In fact, the closest tree was about 30 feet away. I took the drone to about 15 feet in altitude and threw it into plane mode. As soon as I did that, I had no way to control the drone. It flew straight into the tree at about 15 feet up and got stuck. I was rescued by a neighborhood kid walking his dog. Like a ninja squirrel, he climbed the tree and got my drone. I looked up the issue and found that it is common, and the only fix is to do a hard reset to the drone by holding the power button. After the hard reset, everything worked great. The drone is super easy to fly and can do little stunts with the new firmware update. Later that day I took it out front of my house to show the neighborhood kids. Took it to a safe altitude, and started flying. Went into plane mode, and yet again, right into a tree... same day, same scenario, was once again saved by the tree climbing kids. My lesson was learned, hard reset the drone before every flight. It sucks, but it is effective. I also ran in into issues with the flight pad and my phone switching priority mid-flight. Meaning the fly pad would stop working and my phone would take over, then it would switch back, even though I selected the option to only use the fly pad. It has only happened once.
Other than those minor issues, the drone works great and I am super happy with the purchase. I bought some aftermarket batteries with a charger from Keenstone for about $25. They exceed the flight time of the provided Parrot battery by about 20 or 30 seconds. The only small issue is that the batteries fit tight compared to the Parrot issued battery. UPDATE (12/13/17): I have put another hour of fly time in now and haven't had any of the issues mentioned earlier. I drive to the park by my house to fly because it is a huge open space. I forgot my fly pad one session and had no choice but to use my phone. It worked great, I was able to enjoy the flights just fine. Though, I still like the fly pad more. Now that I haven't had issues, I am bumping this review to 5 stars. This thing is a blast to fly!

This is my 4th drone. The previous 3 were fun but a little difficult to fly so I thought I would give another a try. Sure glad I did! This is so easy and fun to fly, like getting a drone and airplane in one. No issues at all with the product and has proven to be more durable than I expected. I considered giving 4 stars because the battery doesn't last very long but instead I am going to suggest you get the extra 3 battery pack and charger; Better batteries with longer life and keeps you in the air a long time. If I manage to break this one or my dog eats it I will buy another. What fun :)
Nice drone/airplane for beginngers

This is an excellent drone for beginners wanting to learn how to fly a drone or for someone wanting to learn how to fly an r/c airplane cause this product will teach you how to do both. I have read complaints on poor battery life. I have gotten 10 mins of battery life with the standard battery and a little over 11 mins with aftermarket batteries. One warning do not fly this past 60 meters other wise you may lose connection and if it is over water when this happens it will land in the water because the fail-safe feature when you lose connection is to auto-land. otherwise this is a great product.
Very easy to fly for beginners

Very easy to fly for beginners. Can start with just hovering and getting use to the controls, then switch to plane mode when you are more advanced. Batteries last longest when in plane mode with little wind. I bought 3 more batteries so my kids and I can all I have a turn. Phone hookup allows you to see how much battery is left and allows you to do some one button tricks. Camera is basically useless, but I don't mind- don't have any need for it. Tough construction- it can withstand drops and running into stuff. Would definitely buy again!

Best <$75 drone I've purchased (my 5th)

Great inexpensive drone. I've purchased a few <$75 and none have been nearly this fun, easy to fly. This is the first drone I've purchased where a crash wasn't an automatic. This holds a specific flight pattern and is super responsive. My 4 yo knows how to take of/land and can move it up and down. A total blast.
