Love the backlight, just one caveat...by Cole Southworth (4 out of 5 stars)

I've used a fluorescent backlight on my last two TVs and loved it for the better picture quality and diminished eyestrain, but it was powered off a separate switch and a little hard to get at on the back of the TV each time. When I saw the Luminoodle I was intrigued--low amperage draw, less heat, better light diffusion and powered by the TV--perfect. With my 60 inch Panasonic I bought the 3m (118") Luminoodle for best coverage, plugged it in and promptly overloaded the USB port.Evidently the Panny ports are 500mA, but this isn't stated in my manual (found it online). Luckily, no damage to TV, but I had to trim off a number of LEDs from the end of the strip to reduce the current draw to fall into the port's output. This is covered in the instructions, is simple, but time consuming---cut off 2", turn on TV, blow the USB port breaker, turn off the TV, cut off 2" more.....repeat 9 times.
Anyway, I ended up cutting a total of 20" off the 3m Luminoodle ( 10 LEDs ), mounted it to the back of the TV and it works wonderfully. There are 44 LEDs left on my strip to make it work with a 500mA USB port. With the 12" non-lit cord, the 118" (3m) has 54 LEDs, the 78" would have 33 LEDs.
My advice---if your TV is 55" or less with a 500mA USB port, buy the 78" Luminoodle, save $5 and a half hour of hassle---60" and up, get the 118" and cut off what you need. YMMV.
Finally, this product is totally worthwhile, just realize that there may be some extra effort in getting it set up. If it works right out of the package, it's a 5 minute install!
Hopes this helps,
Cole

I wasn't sold on the idea of bias lighting at first but I figured after reading many positive comments on the A/V forums for my Samsung KS8500 I decided I would give it a shot. This kit isn't expensive at all so the risk level was pretty low. Well, I got it in, unrolled it, and stuck on the back of my curved screen. It made it all the way up one side, across the top, and all the way down the other side with no problems just like they stated in their description. If you plug these into the USB plug on the back of you TV then they will even turn on and off with your TV, at least on the KS8500 they do. It took maybe 5 minutes from start to finish.
I was very impressed with the light output of these lights even though my TV sits in the corner of the room and is a few feet out from the wall too. It allows us to comfortably watch TV in the dark while still being able to see and it also creates a nice "aura" around the screen. I will say they also seem to make the bright colors in animated movies like Finding Dory pop even more than normal, so much so that even my son says he likes the TV better with the bias lights on it. Bias lights are also supposed to reduce eye strain and I'll take all the help I can get there during my late-night Horizon: Zero Dawn sessions. Overall I am very pleased with the look and function of these lights and highly recommend them.
*****There is one important thing to keep in mind when purchasing/installing these lights if you have a KS8500 or KS8000, the light strip will make it all the way around 3/4 of the TV screen but there is not enough slack left to make it to the USB plug on the back of the TV. To remedy this I just spent another $3-$4 on a 1-meter USB extension. The length was much longer than needed but I figured better safe than sorry.*****

Works great. My only complaint is that the light is more blueish, while I prefer a more reddish (lower, "warmer" temperatures). I knew this going in, and for me, the convenience of the optional RF dimmer switch and the USB power trump this minor complaint.
I installed the 118" "Large" Luminoodle kit on a Vizio P55-c1 (55" 4K TV). I installed in on the back where the back was parallel with the wall behind it. Because the rear of my TV is slightly curved around the edges (~5" radius), the "flat" area that I applied it to ended up being about 3" in from the left, right, and top. If you're unsure what size you need, measure out a piece of string and see how well that would work. Note also the connector length when considering placement. It's a very thoughtful design, with a flat cable and bi-directional USB connnector. The adhesive is genuine 3M OEM molding tape. This is the stuff they use in the automotive world to e.g. stick the chrome model name of the car onto the car. Trust me, it's what you want. Once applied (you peel the red tape off from the grey adhesive, which itself is stuck on one side to the back of the flexible Luminoodle circuit board), it's not going anywhere until you want it to. As long as you have clean hands and a clean surface (dust the back of your TV before applying the Luminoodle), you'll be able to re-stick it as long as you're careful if you mess up initially. Again, it's the best stuff that they could have possibly used. Measure it out and plan where you want to install it before you go to stick it on and you'll do well.
I also went for the optional RF dimmer switch, which is equally great, and shares the flat cable + bidirectional USB connector (you can plug it in "backwards" and it works fine). I control it using a Broadlink RM-Pro, which is another IMO very good product. The RF range is good, there are MANY brightness levels, and the interface is simple.
As some of you have been, I was curious about the actual power draw for the large size. I measured using two genuine Apple 110v USB adapters - the 5W iPhone adapter and the 12W iPad adapter. With the dimmer on full bright, the 118" Large Luminoodle drew 0.71A@5.16v (3.7 watts). On the dimmest setting, it was drawing 0.04@4.97V (this was running through a USB 3 extension cable into my TV's USB 2.0 port -> tester -> dimmer on lowest setting -> Luminoodle).
TL;DR a USB 3.0 port should be able to provide 900mA of power at 5v. This draws less than that in all circumstances for the large size, even with the dimmer. If your TV has a USB port that is blue inside, this will work as bright as it can possible go. If you only have USB 2.0, there's a small chance that your TV will complain about the device drawing too much power for the Large size (not sure if other sizes draw less power, but they *should*) and you'd have to potentiallly use a USB wall adapter or something.
It's decent for the price, but very bright and you can find better for the same price.

Cheap and effective. I have an NZXT Hue+ for my pc, desk, and monitor, but I wanted simple white lighting for my living room TV. This is pretty bright, and I wish there was a dimming switch, but it gets the job done. Much easier to watch the TV now without fighting the glare of other lights, windows, and helps with the contrast on the TV as well. I would give it 5 stars, but I feel the brightness is not what everyone is looking for. I will deal with it because I bought it on an impulse and it's cheap, but I recommend looking for something dimmable, and maybe even that allows for more colors. The white is very bright, and a little yellow would not hurt. I also bought a manual switch to turn it on and off with, which is another thing I feel it should come with. As for the LED strip itself, it is not coated in anything and the 3m is not the strongest. It can be bent 90 degrees but it's still a bit awkward. Overall, it is okay. I would recommend looking eslewhere.
Must-have for home theater!

I ordered the large size for my 65" wall-mounted flatscreen and am very pleased with the results. I used to always keep a kitchen light on during movies; now I have just enough ambient light with no glare and the picture looks great.
INSTALLATION NOTES: Test first!!! There is *nothing wrong* with the adhesive that comes with the strip (as some reviewers have suggested), but you want to get it right the first time. It helps to hold the strip in place with masking tape in advance.
Before applying, I tried multiple configurations and was very glad I did. Wrapping around 3 sides looks best. This is kind of obvious, but if the strip is further in from the edge of the TV, the strip will be shorter and the light will be dimmer / more diffuse. For me, 5 inches from the edge is perfect; I used a pencil and ruler to mark the distance around the back of the TV to keep it straight (straight = even light). I had about a foot of strip left over, which I cut off. Finally, I pulled the TV out about 6 inches from the wall for a nice even glow on the wall.
Happy viewing!
Overall works great but the type-A USB connector is flaky. Consider an "all the way around" installa

The instructions show three installation options based on the length of the product and the television size. Another reviewer has a great idea. Instead of going along the edge to cover the top and sides, cover all four sides with a smaller rectangle. I tried both and the full rectangllooks much better. I had to run it under my wall mount bracket. Thankfully it is the kind that has thick plastic bushing/washers that create a gap between the bracket and the back of the television.
Use masking tape or cellophane tape to mock it up before exposing the adhesive. It ended up being 4-6" away from the edge all the way around.
The USB connector on the light strip does not work well with the USB ports on my television - an LG OLED 55". It is a "double sided" connector that should work in either direction. Flipping it over achieved the same result. This connector only works when partially inserted into the USB port on the back. The side port works better - still has issues - but that's my accessible port. USB ports have been around for a very long time. I can't remember the last time I ran into a flaky type-A connector! Maybe I need a short USB extender cord even though the original connector can reach the port.

I love this product. I used to primarely use my TV in a pitch-black basement, where I'd keep all lights off in order to minamize my TV Screen's backlight so it could produce the richest of blacks. Not only did I not realize the strain having a lit screen surounded by pure dark was putting on my eyes, but it was rather inconvent living in such darkness. Having to keep a flashlight with-in arms reach from my recliner at all times should have been my clue that I was doing something wrong. But, thanks to Luminoodle, I have seen the light (pun intended). I don't have to fight with my eyes, trying to get them to focus after a 10-hour game session. I thought my black's were rich before, but I'll be damned if they don't look even deeper now. And now when I drop something on the floor, I've stopped instictivly grasping for a my flashlight, I can just look around and see the stuff in my room now.
P.S. Don't listen to anyone complaining that this wasn't long enough to frame the back of their tv on all four sides: they are just trying to stick it far too close to the very edge. I have a 46 in screen and placing the strip 4 inches in from the edge, I was able to run it along all four sides, with a few inches to spare. Also ignore anyone complaining about the strip not sticking. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts they didn't clean the back of their TV before applying it. Dust and adhesives don't mix.
Definitely happy with this product

Definitely happy with this product. I only wish the USB section was a little longer to accommodate different areas of mounting. I have this installed on my 60" Samsung maybe 3" from the edge of the TV so I have 2 small 3-5" sections at the bottom of the TV. Before mounting, I recommend cleaning the back section of TV with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils and dust to allow the product to properly adhere. I experimented with mounting by taping the LED's to the back of the TV with painters tape to get my proper alignment even on both sides and making sure the USB will reach before peeling the 3M tape. Once this product is mounted, you can tell it will be an absolute pain to remove so make sure you are happy with the pre-mounting and alignment.
As for performance, this product is nice and BRIGHT. It is easily seen during the day and at night, adds a great ambiance to watching TV or in my case movies & video games. I never felt like I had eye fatigue from doing movie marathons with friends or playing video games for extended periods but the LED's definitely add a new level of enjoyment out of both and highly recommend getting them if you spend a lot of time around the TV. Originally, I had contemplated getting the colored version, and for those that have white walls, would recommend going that route as opposed to white. I have painted walls so the colored LED's wouldn't be as effective against the accent wall that my TV is mounted to.
My apologies for the blurry phone pic but hopefully it gets the point across on the level of brightness and contrast when it's dark.
Beware it might not work with your USB ports

Was in the market for LED strip made directly for "backlighenings TVs" but my bedroom the tv this was bought for a Panasonic VireaSmartTV with 2 USB ports. however I get error message on the TV as not safe USB/ USB over loaded. I have turned TV off and on several times to try to resolve this same issue,... tested it on my older Panasonic Viera TV In the living room work fine which already has LED lighting on it; so it appears this newer TV has some built in software to protect the USB ports maybe,... never the less I left the other LED strip( that I use in the living room ) I was using being I didn't want to have to use a remote control and it's 65" so now to make this work I would have to plug it into a USB wall port and find some adapter with a remote I knew it was too good to be true on and off with the TV!!!
Lights up the back of your TV, as well as anything stored behind your TV!!

This product does exactly what it says it will do- adds back light to your TV. My only dislike is the amount of light it provides on the back of your TV. This is completely because of the way we have our TV mounted- over a strange 'hole' in our wall above our gas fireplace that we use for storage. Adding this light strip to our TV just made this dusty storage 'hole' on full display, lol! But again, not necessarily the product's fault. It was easy to install and so far after a few weeks, is sticking strong. I think the only reason I wouldn't get one for our bedroom TV is because of where we also have that TV placed, no need to light up that back wall!!
