The Eldris was unanimously chosen by an international jury of outdoor-journalist judges for the prestigious Scandinavian Outdoor Award in the Hardware category. It features a square-ground spine that can be used as a striker with a firesteel. Two different polymers and an ergonomic shape make the handle of the Morakniv Eldris durable and easy to hold. A built-in click lock between the sheath and handle ensures the Eldris stays safely in place when worn around the neck. Its small size and safe handling make Eldris a perfect choice for knife users of all experience levels. I watched an excellent Youtube video by Tengan65 where he explained 10 things this knife can do and 2 things it can't. I encourage you to watch the video if you're on the fence about making the purchase. Here is his list and my opinion now that I've used this little knife for awhile. #1 Great for making Feather Sticks and very controllable. #2 Very good for scraping for the same reason. #3 Excellent for sparking a Ferro Rod. I mean really good! #4 Pretty good at cutting cordage and rope. #5 Good for cutting and slicing. #6 Excellent for opening boxes and cutting cardboard. #7 Fair for food prep such as carrots, onions etc. #8 Very good for Notching wood. #9 Pretty darn good for whittling and carving. #10 Decent for drilling into wood or making hole in softer wood. What it is not good for is... #1 Chopping anything #2 Batoning (Unless your batoning Popsicle sticks or tongue depressors.) I suggest you assess your needs and go from there. I give this little beast a rating of excellent and since the price came down considerably, I think it's a super knife to carry as a secondary in the woods or a primary for simple EDC. Edit 3/21/18 OK, I have to admit that this little knife has been relegated to home use for opening packages and such. I just don't use it and I think that just about any other option from Mora would be a better choice than this one. Even the inexpensive Mora 511 is a better choice for most of us. I still stand by my review, I just don't need this.

Fantastic Utility Blade
by Teotwawki Johnny (5 out of 5 stars)

This is the knife you want, if you are looking for a short, all purpose knife that inspires confidence while you hold it. The grip is sure. The blade is tough. The spine is ground to work well with a fire steel.

Like all Mora knives, the Eldris is an amazing value at an incredibly low price.

If you check out the photo, you can see how I converted the basic blade to a neck knife. I just used some reflective tent cordage and a split ring through the scabbard. I like this set up better than the Mora solution, and I would hope a furute redesign of the scabbard would eliminate the need for the split ring.

A Perfect Knife For Backpacking!
by Backcountry Exposure (5 out of 5 stars)

I am so far from being a knife expert, that my review I feel comes from the knife amature sharing why a knife like this is functional for backpacking. I love this knife, and it has many characteristics that make it awesome to take backpacking. First off, the knife is capable of a lot, and that's what makes it one of my favorite knives. I love the short blade, which allows for precise work, and easy work. I love the size of the handle, the rubbery grip, and the palm swells that make it really comfortable. One of the things I like about the handle is that I can get my hand right up to the blade, allowing for more delicate work with the knife. Others have complained about the 90 degree spine and it being sharp. In doing push cuts with it on bare skin, it's not been an issue for me. The benefit of the 90 degree spine is that you are able to strike a ferro rod with it and make the knife part of a fire kit.

Overall I am happy with the knife and its function. It's perfect for me to take backpacking.

Great Knife
by Hobey (5 out of 5 stars)
February 2, 2017

I've carried this knife everyday since December. Its small and light enough to be comfortable in a pocket, and it's good steel. Stays sharp and isn't too difficult to re sharpen. This knife does all the tasks a much larger knife can (not a machete or an axe) and does them well. It's a very comfortable knife because, unlike a lot of small knives, the handle has enough of a palm swell to fill the hand.

Neat Firecraft Knife.
by Nikki85 (5 out of 5 stars)

I've been waiting for the U.S. release of this Mora knife for what feels like ever.

I received the red model without the leather snap. While I would like the leather option, it bumps the price up for me just a little too much for what it is. The plastic sheath does have a bit of a snap when the knife is fully engaged. So there is retention, and you could wear it as a neck knife. The retention is not great enough for me to trust it for any serious hiking/fishing etc. Fashioning your own leather/rubber snap should be simple enough.

The Handle is a combination of hard plastic, and a soft rubber type material. It give me a full four finger grip, and fills my palm comfortably without slip or irritation. The handle is a win for me especially with the addition of a lanyard hole. While I typically abhor lanyards, it is a nice addition for this small knife.

The Eldris has a pretty specific purpose, and that is fire craft. It has an incredibly sharp cutting edge, and an ice skate sharp spine. Both lend well to making shavings of wood, feather sticks, and striking a ferro rod. It throws sparks like a champ. It makes feather sticks like a champ.

The spine can be used to shave wood off of a stick to save your cutting edge, or for shaving magnesium off of a block. It has been added to my fire kit, and that is where it shall live.

It could be used as a pocket knife, but is a bit fat for my taste. When I carry a fixed blade, I prefer it to be slender to no draw attention. It is a very small knife, that handles like a large knife and I highly recommend it.

My main complaint is the funky grind. Should prove to be interesting when a resharpen is due. I'm trying to keep it honed on a strop to avoid that.

Great little lightweight knife
by T. Mcintyre (5 out of 5 stars)
March 19, 2017

Great little lightweight knife. I have been packing it in my HPG Kit Bag, along with some other essentials. I have XL sized hands and find that the handle is not too small. I consider it essential gear now, and intend to use it for a lightweight backpacking knife, as well as for kayaking. I added some 550 cord on mine, so I could keep it around my neck when doing stuff in the snow. I have no doubt that I will pick up a few more of these. They come very sharp and with a micro set of crock sticks, it sharpens fast and holds a great edge. It is one of those few times that you get more than what you paid for (in my opinion).

great quality, but not any real purpose.
by Benny (3 out of 5 stars)

I'm a big Mora fan. Picked this one up when it was on sale because i can't seem to justify the regular price as compared to the other Moras. Why it costs twice as much I have no idea. it's a fine litle knife. the quality is superior as all Moras. However the design just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. it's too short of a blade for general use. But to wide (deep? blade to spine) of a blade for very fine use, so I'm really not sure of the point of it. I guess it could be used similar to a regular utility razor blade knife. however i'm not sure why you would since the retractable utility knife is actually the perfect tool for what it is used for. (short, sturdy, razor sharp) all the things this knife i think is trying to be, but for the price, it's really not worth it. since a standard utility knife is cheaper, and never needs sharpening. just a couple cents each for a quickly changed replaceable blade.

In a nutshell. The quality is great, I'm just not really sure what it's for. if you need a really sturdy really shrt but deep knife. sure. it's good. but otherwise get the companion or my favorite the Robust Craftline! and you'll be happier.

That being said I am a knife nut and really enjoy Mora knives so I couldn't resist
by T.E. (5 out of 5 stars)
July 8, 2017

I initially resisted buying this knife because I couldn't really see a use for it. That being said I am a knife nut and really enjoy Mora knives so I couldn't resist. At first glace/touch, I regretted purchasing the knife. It seemed too small to be terribly useful, and too bulky in the handle for the small blade length. And the higher than normal price for a Mora knife also had me expecting more.

That's all before I used the knife. I can't seem to put it down, and constantly look for excuses to have it on me. It was designed as a neck knife, but I normally just toss it in my pocket. It is very handy and is really all the blade I need for daily tasks. I'm not sure if it's just novelty or practicality, but I also really enjoy the small plastic sheath vs a folding blade. It came razor sharp and has been great at slicing, chopping, and carving. To use it is to love it. If you are considering the purchase, I'd recommend it.

best EDC Morakniv....but it can get even better (see video)

I HAVE TWO, BUYING A THIRD, AND I PUT BELT CLIPS ON ALL MINE, TO WEAR THEM LIKE A NORMAL PERSON! I use mine as a EDC. I use it instead of shears to cut mono, brained line ice bags, bait, sandwiches, tubing, you name it on my charter fishing boat. I work these things hard. This eldris by Morakniv HAS ZERO COMPETITION, is simple, small, light weight and very practical. PRACTICAL, is really what makes my world go round. uTILITY, is what makes something a go-to item. LOVE everything about a Morakniv. Clean, simple a huge value. nothing to break, get loose. really, who doesn't like a superior product for a price that everyone can live with. hands down, another winner!
