So, this is my first review. The old man and I bought a house, unknowing that the State bird of Alabama is the horse fly. The horseflies are about the size of a Weber grill, with wings. They like to congregate on our porch and torment us with their buzzing gospel.

Before purchasing this nifty gadget, my husband had refined his skills as a kung fu master with a porch broom with a confirmed kill score of 80%. For those who may not know, Bama is "steamy" this time of year, and preferred recreation is sitting absolutely still. So, evening ninja practice is not the first choice of activities.

Enter Bug A salt lawn edition:
-The package arrived at 8am by rural postal carrier. The fastest Amazon delivery we've received since moving here.
-It came with instructions and a couple stickers that we put on the back porch fridge.
-We camoed up and perched, ready for conflict.

At close range, the Bug A salt shreds them. Wings, butts, eyeballs.... at a further range, wings are the best to aim for. They death spiral similar to the bombers you see in WW2 coverage clips.

As of this evening, I'm convinced we've culled 70% of the horse fly population in Alabama.

Alabama will need a new state bird.

The only two cons:

I have arthritis and it's a bit tough for me to rack quickly.

I have to wait till my next paycheck in order to have the trophies mounted by the taxidermist.

This is awesome! Opened it up, poured in the salt and laid waste to my enemies. Doesn't leave bug guts on painted walls so your Wife won't get on you. Mosquitos explode in mid air, moths go down like a 20 dollar hooker!

Great fun! Kills small to medium bugs with ease. Couple of fun facts though: (1) does not kill 2+ inch palmetto bugs; (2) palmetto bugs can fly (seriously?!?!); (3) does not protect you from flying palmetto bugs; (4) your wife may lose respect for you when you scream like a girl and run from a bug that you were supposed to kill.

The Lawn & Garden version, at least mine anyway, is complete crap. I've had a 2.0 version for nearly a year and until just recently it's been great. I recently decided to try the Lawn & Garden to see if there was a power difference, and as luck would have it, the day I ordered it, my 2.0 broke. Basically with my 2.0, when you'd go to cock it, the cocking handle would just slam back forward, it wouldn't stay cocked or reset the trigger. I was defenseless against flies for several days, but I survived.

Two days later the Lawn & Garden showed up. The first day it seemed ok, but absolutely no better, nor more powerful than the 2.0. By day two, I was getting frequent "dry" shots. Meaning you'd have the perfect shot lined up, and you'd pull the trigger just to get nothing more than a BOING sound (these have a different sound when shooting salt vs shooting nothing) with zero salt, or with very little salt coming out. The plunger that is inside the area that you load with salt goes down and loads salt as you cock it, but mine was hardly moving, or not moving at all. You can't see it or fix it when it's loaded with salt, so I'd have to dump the salt out and work the plunger back and forth, or more often than not, put water in it to free it. I was using Morton's salt, and even tried a little coarser grain sea salt, none worked. Basically, the Morton salt was getting down in side the plunger area keeping it from moving freely. My 2.0 doesn't ever do that.

I would have returned it, but I had already defeated the absolutely unneeded and super aggravating auto resetting safety. I hate that "feature" with extreme prejudice. To wrap this up, I took the 2.0 and L&G apart, found the broken piece that caused the 2.0 not to stay cocked, swapped them out, and am now killing flies again with the ole 2.0. The L&G will be used for spare parts, as it was worthless as a unit.

A stupid amount of fun. Works great! I mean your longest kill shot is going to be like 6ft, but that just means you're close enough to get the satisfaction of seeing it work. 'sidenote' when going after larger game, such as yellowjackets... you want to be very close and aim for the front... or else be prepared for the firefight of your life... just ask my camp friends.... they thought it was hilarious.

Worth a million dollars in fun. Loaded it with coarse kosher salt and it became more deadly for those pesky flies. You have a little more range when using coarse [Buck Shot] salt. Try it, you'll like it.

Great for palmetto bugs! This is the most fun you can have for $50. If you don't live in Florida, A palmetto bug is a giant roach that find their way inside no matter what you do.

Hasn't broken down yet. Knocks flies out. Works fine indoors. Don't use sugar or anything else with it--must use salt or else it will not function properly.

Not more powerful than the regular 2.0

I gave this 4 stars due to it being such a cool & addictive fly killing machine. HOWEVER, just get the bug a salt 2.0! The lawn & garden shoots a little bit more salt, but is NOT more powerful & in that, I am dissapointed. I have both now & they're BOTH super fun fly killers. Just get the regular 2.0 (or two), hot glue the safety in the fire position & kill the worthless pests.

Like your salt gun but unhappy about having to release that uncomfortable, annoying safety before EVERY SHOT?!

Quick fix: Push the lever forward, drill a tiny hole and install a tiny screw. (See photo.)

Now you have a rapid fire salt gun. Kill more flies. Smile.
