Worth it, enough space for a fan too.

Great case, I modded a little fan into it, it has enough space for the mod. The price could be better but I'm happy.

Love the looks of this box, plastic is good, finish is excellent, thought about 3D printing one but the finish on this is so much better, looks like a real video game console, only real complaint I have is there is no felt or rubber on the feet so it slides around cause it's so small and light, for the price it would have been a nice addition

Modified Case to Add Real Power Button and LED Indicator
by ctfaris (5 out of 5 stars)
April 10, 2017

This case is terrific! The injection molded plastic makes it look and feel much better than 3D printed cases that others sell.

I went ahead and turned the faux power button into a fully functional button and added an LED indicator light. It required filing down the fake button, drilling a hole, gluing a momentary switch behind the hole and fashioning some scrap plastic into the shape I wanted (cut up SD card holder). There is room for improvement with my design, but I love how well it works. Instructions to do this can be found online. The coding is really easy for Recalbox, but there's a youtube video with instructions for RetroPie as well if you'd like (can't post links here).

If anyone has ideas for how I could improve my design, let me know. I just bought a second case to do this again.

Update! I modified my second case differently. First, I drilled the hole and enlarged it with a dremel. A flat file was used to square the corners. I used the same wiring diagram as last time but this time soldered it to a spare piece of Prototype Printed Circuit Board
. From there, I epoxied the board in place and fashioned a button face out of scrap acrylic and superglued it to the momentary switch. The only mistake I made was the hole getting too big while using the dremel. New pictures added.

Great idea, sub par execution.

I really wanted to love this case, and in many ways I do. The aesthetic is great and if you really want that retro nes look but I just can't rate this on looks alone. After placing my pi in and puting the case together I noticed that the screws would not stay in they simply slid into the pockets and rotated freely without actually screwing the top and bottom together. The bay at the front also felt very cheap and is help on with just a couple of small pins the click into place with I would have no issues with on it's own, but every time I picked up the case it would bounce open and closed and wouldn't just stay shut. All in all it's minor things and I may have just gotten a bad sample. I do love the idea and it is and eye catcher, especially if you add a nes usb controller to the mix. I can't fully recommend this unless it is exactly what you are looking for as there are many better case options out there functionality wise.

Just a couple tweaks and it'd be 5-stars

Great case, great price. The flip-up lid is a little delicate as it's held on by 2 little nubs on either side, and it doesn't open up very far--just far enough to clear the input ports.

Other than that, I love it! Cutouts fit the raspi perfectly. Very cool old skool case.

A great pi case, worth every penny
by Morgan Gorman,Top Contributor: Raspberry Pi (5 out of 5 stars)

This is a great case, the look is very similar to the old nes and anyone who grew up in the 80's/90's should immediately recognize it and think it's awesome. The case is held together by four screws that go through the pi board so your pi won't move around in there. The "cartridge door" opens up to give you access to the USB and Ethernet ports and the SD card is accessable from the back. There is no fan included but I think there might be enough space to put one in there if you feel the need. There are air vents in the top and bottom of the case. No rubber feet, just plastic peg feet that do give it a little space for airflow underneath. Hdmi and power ports are on the side which is the one thing that really breaks up the NES feel, but that's the way most pi cases are made. All in all it looks great and is sure to make your pi a cool conversation piece in addition to a emulation monster!

Not an project development case... but still a great case
by gatorBYTE (5 out of 5 stars)

I love this case, it is well designed, allowing for good cooling with room for project wiring, but not necessary an add-on project boards (without modifications). Once it is mounted in the case, there really isn't a quick way to open the case and make a quick change. The pi board is secured into the case with 4 small screws secured from the bottom of the case, locking both case halves together with the Raspberry Pi between them. The USB and ethernet connectors are hidden by the "cartridge" door, but the GPIO is not accessible without unscrewing the case apart. This makes It a great case for nostalgic or any final design, but not so much for projects still in development. It is a cute case that needs to be displayed, not hidden behind the monitor.

Neat case, always grabs guests' attention!
by Jeff (4 out of 5 stars)

Awesome looking case for Raspberry Pi! I built a RetroPie and was looking for a case, and this one fits the bill perfectly. I also added a Pimoroni Blinkt to the GPIO of the Pi, edited the crontab to have a basic rainbow python script running at startup and now it looks really neat and adds an unexpected splash of light! **Note, if you intend to do this with this case, you'll need to install a 90 degree header adapter as the way the case mounts together conflicts with the overhang of the blinkt.
(My only complaint is that the screws that hold the case together have very small heads, and I don't have a screwdriver this small. I think you'd need eyeglass screwdrivers (Phillips) to tighten down the screws properly)

Best Retropie case and fantastic seller!
by Zope (5 out of 5 stars)
May 2, 2017

This is in my opinion the best case for anyone building a retropie. The design is perfectly setup to allow the board, heatsinks, ports, and microsd to fit. Ventilation has been perfect as well. I know appearance is subjective but this thing just looks perfect as well.

I want to add that the seller went above and beyond to make sure I had the perfect product. When I first received the case I noticed the lettering was smudged and there was a slight bow in the case but honestly that wasn't a big deal for me. It was still functionally sound. The seller emailed me and asked if I was satisfied. I told him about the issue but explained that I was totally ok with it. He still sent me another product that ended up being perfect.

Just know that if you buy this case, you pretty much have a guarantee of getting a perfect product and I haven't seen an NES style case that looks this good.
