Interesting device to upgrade your mini-blinds but be careful if you're not on iOS
by KC (4 out of 5 stars)

Updated 12/30/18:

Android App was updated to 2.1.7 and now calibration, ability to control, and install new units appears to be fixed. Upgraded my ratings since Android app is now working pretty well. Some minor nuances that come up are that when you pair multiple units in a single room there seems to be some lag between the units when trying to change settings (not a big deal to me, but slightly annoying). No integration with Alexa or Google unless you purchase Bridge unit separately.

Finally got the the "My SmartBlinds" installed. I took down my existing mini-blinds and replaced the parts of the mini-blinds as instructed and installed the motorized unit. I also purchased the solar panel adapter to keep the battery charged for running the motor. Not too difficult to install, but if it's your first one plan for a little more time.

The main issue that I had and why I'm down grading the product is that the software application is not useful if you have an Android based device. For example, there's a calibration sequence that's required and using a Samsung based Android phone, I was basically unable to connect to the device to calibrate the motor for opening/closing the mini-blind. I then switched over to my spouse's iPad and things calibrated more easily and the automated controls were much more seamless. Considering that I am unable to use my Android phone to connect to the device consistently, I have uninstalled the Android app. Wasted about an hour with it ...

A few installation problems but love the result so far
by A. M. Fischer (4 out of 5 stars)

Installation not as easy as the video. For starters, we have a hole in the headrail where the manual switch is supposed to be attached with adhesive. We had to glue a piece of white plastic over the hole and then attach the manual switch. Our blinds are exactly minimum size allowed (per an email I received from mfg). The motor would only fit in the 2" wide space if we removed it from the rubbery motor bracket - removing bracket is mentioned in the directions, but not in the video. When we got to the point where we insert the turning rod, we found that the rod was not aligned with hole in the motor. We had to turn the motor around 180 degrees to get it aligned with the holes in the barrels so that the rod could pass through all of them. Then of course the plugs were on the wrong side of the motor to fit properly so we had to shift the battery and motor along the length of the headrail so that the wires would be able to plug in to the motor. When it was all installed though, and we first adjusted the blinds with the app, we loved it despite all the trouble installing. This particular set of blinds is in a bad spot and I have to climb to open/close them, it was definitely worth the hassle and am glad we could get the kit to work. Our next problem to solve is that the app is not opening/closing them per the schedule that we've set. My biggest complaint is really that there should be more technical information on how to make sure this kit will work with different sets of blinds - more dimensional information for example - that can be reviewed before the kit is purchased. We were lucky that we could align the turning rod holes by reversing the motor position.

Edited to add video. In the video I call these my new blinds. They are not new, they are over 10 years old! They just feel new because now they are "smart".

Not ready for prime time

UPDATE 01/2018: Whatever genius they hired as an app developer must have gotten his certification from inside a cereal box, because the one update in the last year completely broke the app for Android, it now simply crashes on open and so these blinds are next to worthless unless I decide to switch to an iPhone. Zero customer communication, terrible experience all around.

So first off, I found this item on a list of "Works With Alexa" items. If it had known that was so far from true I wouldn't have purchased them. There is ZERO ability to integrate with Alexa, not even with IFTTT.

Supposedly the iPhone app works fairly well, but the Android version is a train wreck, and even though I'm on the Beta Test list with a "new" version, I think they have one developer working 1/4 time on it or something, because it literally takes months for minor version releases and the remote control button/switch I also purchased is like 3 versions away from being included.

Basically it seems like a small company that blew up faster than they were able to handle, and they're having major, major growing pains. The blinds themselves work fairly well, the battery life estimate of "6 to 12 months" between charges is laughable, more like 2-3 months at most. Didn't get the solar panel because until they fix the apps and integrations I'm not sending them even more of my money.

Alexa/Google Home Integration Requires Additional Hardware - Product Title is Deceptive
by DesertSurfer (3 out of 5 stars)

This works GREAT, but the title is misleading. I purchased this because it said it would integrate with Amazon Alexa. While it "technically" does, the integration requires the purchase of their ~$90 SmartHub - which is not sold on Amazon. As this was the main reason that I selected this option, my review of the product may be jaded.

The product worked with my Android 8.0 smart phone and sorta with my smart switch. Then it advised me to update the firmware, and now the only way the blinds work is with the manual switch. I have had no response from tech support.

Worked great until they didnt.

Pros:

Easy install - dont over think it

Fairly easy app setup and control

Cons:

Stopped working after 4 months (phone cannot connect to it to control it)

Virtually no online support

Setting to follow sun/sunset is useless

No Alexa integration (although they claim it is coming)

Physical (outside of app) control costs extra

Recommendation:

Stay away. Once you install into your blinds you are kind of tied to it and will have to fully replace blinds to go another route.

Ok, several issues. First, one of them will not charge. I'm using the official smartblinds cord and charger. Plugged in for over 6 hours, no change in battery status. Second, the APP to control the blinds continues to crash. Scheduling does not work. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S8. So, i also have the bridge that i purchased directly from them. The bridge is supposed to allow Alexa to operate the blinds. Well, guess what? The APP does not allow me to set up the bridge. It continues to say, connecting to WIFI and just spins. I have restarted my router, i have cleared the cache and data in the APP. I have deleted the APP and reinstalled. ALL with no luck. So, I do some research and find out that Android issues have been having issues for years. I was not told that when purchased. Seems the product is NOT ready for release to the public.

Very simple to install. Familiarize yourself with parts before beginning and watch my smartblinds installation video on YouTube. Please be certain that the adapter that's locks into motor fits snuggly onto your rod as there are no do overs. I have ordered two more.

Nice Hardware and Software

I bought 5 of these (4 from Amazon, 1 directly from MySmartBlinds). I spent about 45 minutes installing the first one, about 15 minutes each for the rest. The instructions were fairly clear, although the print and images are too small to see well. On the other hand, the on-line installation video is great, I highly recommend it. The automation kit works great! They fit in my blinds perfectly. I did have to use the alternate procedure for mounting the motor, but that worked well too. The solar panel seems to work well. It appears that it can charge even when there is no direct sunlight. The app for IOS works well. So far, we haven't needed to use a bridge or hub because of the great scheduling options in the app. We live in a hot desert area, and we also found the thermostatic mode to work well for us. They just go about their business controlling light, heat, and views without a lot of tinkering.

Seems like a great idea and was easy to install
by Imron (1 out of 5 stars)

Seems like a great idea and was easy to install. Unfortunately the Android version of the app is not ready for prime time, and received a 1.7 rating on the Google Playstore. I experienced the same issues that most other people complained about when using the Android version of the mobile app. Major problems when trying to find the blinds via Bluetooth. Looks like they have been unable to resolve these issues in over 18 months.
