I so wanted it to be good.by Marc Kaufman (2 out of 5 stars)

Oh man, I really wanted to like this case. I'm a technophile, so unique gadgets like the Inkcase i7 especially appeal to me. I've used e-ink/e-paper devices in the past (like Kindles and Pebbles watches) and there is a very noticeable benefit to a screen that looks great in direct sunlight. I love that this product exists. I just wish it worked better. Here are the reasons I'll be returning it:
1. The screen completely refreshes (it changes to all white for a split second and then back to whatever it was displaying) way more often than it needs to. It seems like it refreshes at least every 10-15 seconds. This includes when the touch keys are locked and the case is showing a static picture. Why does it need to refresh when it's just showing a static picture? When my phone is sitting on a table or desk, and it randomly refreshes, it's distracting. And other people in the room are distracted by it, too.
2. Battery life doesn't last a full day! This may be related to the exorbitant screen refreshes, but I can't rely on it as a clock (which is one of the cooler-looking features) if I'm paranoid that the time it's showing is two hours off because it died two hours ago.
3. It certainly adds protection to the phone (and I know that was a common criticism on the previous version, the i6), however it adds a ton of weight and bulk to my iphone. In fact, the iphone-inkcase combo is so heavy and bulky, it makes it somewhat difficult to handle. I feel like I'm more likely to drop it, ironically. And I'm apprehensive about handing to another person since it's rare for a phone to be this heavy and bulky - I worry they're going to drop it.
4. I don't mind having to charge the case (since I charge my phone every night anyway) but the magnetic charger doesn't always make the connection! And, there isn't a battery indicator anywhere on the inkcase screen or iphone app (except for when it's being charged). So I need to connect the magnetic charger, and fiddle with it for a bit until the screen refreshes and shows me that it's charging.
5. It looses it's bluetooth connection frequently. I assume this is a battery-saving feature, maybe? But the result of this is that it creates a tedious chore whenever I update my reminders on my iphone (which are displayed on the inkcase), or want to send an article or picture to it. Before I can do any of these basic things, I have to go into the app and reestablish bluetooth. I think this may be a necessary evil with the technology, but it's unfortunate.
6. There is no way to change the font type of ebooks and news articles (although you can change the size). It's also a bit tedious to manually send specific articles I want to read over to the case. It does indeed pull news automatically, however there is no easy way to customize the news topics.
7. I was very scared in taking my phone out of the case. I used the included guitar pick, which was most definitely required, but I was still afraid I was going to break my phone or the case or both.
Again, I really wanted to like this case. I can overlook a couple issues in an otherwise cool gadget, but this device has more than a couple. I've been vacillating about whether or not to give it another chance the past few days. Oaxis customer service has been very responsive, but unhelpful. They've only told me to do a firmware update to the case (which I actually did even before I started using the case - and I did another afterwards - to no avail), but they haven't told me if my particular device is faulty or not. Even if it is, I've lost my taste for it, and that makes me very sad.

InkCase Battery Life is great for my Use Case

Hey Everyone, I had to write this review since I think the InkCase is getting a bad rap relative to battery-life. I was at CES 2016 and saw this e-Ink case when it was first announced as a start-up and just recently learned it went to market. Despite the bad reviews on battery life, I bought one for my iPhone 6 just to check it out.
I was interested in the product because I like the concept and convenience of a rear display for things that I look at a LOT like my daily calendar or a shopping or grocery or things to do list (I hate having to keep going back and unlocking my phone to check a long shopping or to do list). I was not looking for an active display but rather a substitute for a piece of paper.
I took receipt of the case Aug-3, charged it, and have not charged it since (23 days later it is still working on that first charge). HOWEVER, what I do is turn on the case, transfer the list or my daily calendar, and then shut off the case. I just use it like a sheet of paper, not like a 2nd active display. This places very little demand on the InCase battery and, for me, it suits my use case perfectly.
Now, I can see why others are unhappy with the battery life when using the InkCase as a second active display for things like an active clock or pushes of frequent updates. Active use means the Bluetooth Low Energy link and the e-Ink controller are almost always active. Since this case only a has 460mAHr battery, it only has about 23% of the battery capacity of the iPhone7 (which has a 1,960mAHr battery). So, it is not surprising the InkCase may not make it a full day with only 23% of the capacity of the iPhone7 which, for many people, is probably more than half gone by the day's end.
So, bottom line, for my needs (or my Use Cases) it fit the bill. If you want it for active real time updates, be prepared to have to charge it possibly one or more times a day. I'm happy with the product.
P.S. One other comment, unless I missed it in the instructions, anyone could pick-up your phone and turn on the InkCase display. There is no unlock code like that for your phone. So, keep this in mind when pushing information to the InkCase (even if it is not on the frozen screen image, it is still viewable if one activates the InkCase power).
Make sure you select the correct device or you won't be able to pair them up.

Was about to shoot an email to their cust service because the app was not picking up the Bluetooth on the inkcase at all. Thn I realize it was because I selected the wrong device on the app. During set up, there are four options (4 inkcase devices) for you to choose from. Make sure you select the correct device or you won't be able to pair them up.
Really wanted to like this product, but battery issues make it unusable.

Received the device and the case was not able to charge after one day. Oaxis sent a replacement after 4 weeks, and this one lasted about a month and was not able to charge anymore. I tried cleaning the contacts on both the proprietary charging cable and the charging contacts on the case, but no dice... If the battery and charging issues could be resolved, this would be a great product. The only other slight issue I have is that the back of the case has 'boxy' edges that are not rounded off like the front of the case. Imagine your phone felt a little bit like you were holding a tin of sardines all the time - Not a deal breaker, but could be improved.

Terrible case. Battery life is almost non exsostebt and also takes hours to charge. The button to unlock the case is easily pressed while in pocket or just using the phone.

Great product. Did not get five for just a detail: it would be great that the curved frame ended smooth just when encounter the eink screen as the frontal one.

Good quality, easy to install. The screen looks feel like paper, not too bright, easy to read, eyes didn't feel uncomfortable after long time reading, if you are looking to buy a 2nd screen for your iPhone, I will highly recommended this product.
