Well, I finally have had an opportunity to use this product. I live in PA and have 3 dogs....all three of my dogs paws were irritated to the point of discomfort in their paws. 2 of my little dogs were screaming from the pain.....they were out literally 2 min. Had to wash all paws on the dogs as they held them up...just they way they would if it was the traditional salt ice melter.

As much as I think it works well for melting snow. I can not in good faith recommend for pets! Sorry!!!!!

I live in northern Vermont near a lake. The temperature swings this way and that during winter. What was a safe sidewalk one day can be a long skating rink the next - or even a few hours later. Salt and sand go only so far and they do a lot of damage to lawns and the water system when they wash away. So, yeah, I went all Earth Day looking for something that wasn't destructive to animals, my wooden porch, floors, and so on. I read a lot of reviews and took a gamble by ordering the 10-pound jug of Snow Joe https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-AZ-10-EB-JUG-Melt-Removal/dp/B073XVJNY1/ref=sr_1_4?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1518890105&sr=1-4&keywords=SNOW+JOE . . . and it worked. REALLY worked - just like in the videos you usually can't trust. When the jug was empty, I traded up to the 25-pound bag and - smart move, here - reused the empty 10-pound jug for scattering what I filled it with from the 25-pound bag. Brilliant, huh? That big ol' bag of Joe is very a good buy - it's two and half times as much Snow Joe for just five bucks more. Buy in bulk - and save!

Yesterday, we has some wet snow which froze overnight into ice. I did my Snow Joe scattering and walked into my yard to refill the bird feeders. In the five minutes it took to do that, I returned to see an almost ice-free sidewalk. What strange magic be this? Blimey!

One thing to keep in mind: this is a deicer - it doesn't make snow go away, just ice, and it does that super fast. I'm in Vermont - we don't lie about things like that, up here.

Still has Chlorides

Finding a truly pet safe product is a lot more challenging online than it should be. That's because to see the ingredients, you either have to Google all the variations and hope that Google has the answer, or wait until the bag is in hand. Sadly, the point when we need this stuff, it sold out in stores the pet safe products I usually get (which don't melt as well, but I combine with play sand).

Chlorides produce heat. And, melt ice great. Issue is, they also get in between pet's pads and the moisture there causes them to heat up to around 170 degrees potentially, causing not just discomfort, but burns.

I appreciate being able to get the products from Amazon. But, will try and go into the stores nearby and find the products that truly are pet safe in person, where I can read the ingredients used. And, continue the combination with play sand.

Today in Chicago it snowed throughout the day, not blizzard, but a normal 5-ish inches. I live in the city and have to keep my sidewalks clean, so I shoveled mid-day to break up the torturous foot traffic packed snow that builds up and broke a decent sweat (shoveling about 15 feet of sidewalk) I said "see you later" to my neighbors who were also or shoveling and I put this salt down over the remanants of my hardship, figuring it'd make round 2 easier. It has been 6 hours and my sidewalk is clear, no random patches of ice, clear - while my neighbors already had a solid new layer of snow to shovel, I will not be joining the next round.

Burned my pet's feet even though it said pet friendly. I do not suggest this product for anyone looking for pet friendly salt. It also destroyed my decking from one use. I understand over time salt damaging concrete and wood, but after one use, that shouldn't happen. Horrible product!

This stuff is a hot mess

I hardly write reviews, but this salt is a terrible mess. The box & bag it came in were dripping in the blue dye they put in this product - it stained my coat, gloves, boots, & garage floor. I really should have gone to the trouble of returning it - but it was too messy & heavy to deal with a return! And I really deserve my money back. I apologize for being so negative, but I have never had an ice melt product cause such a mess. Don't make my mistake.

Don't waste your money with this ice melt

Don't waste your money with this ice melt. Only melts 1/8 of an inch around each salt chunk. Then when the weather melts all the ice....it leaves waves of white trails all over your deck and sidewalk. Wouldn't mind if it did it's job in the first place! Not purchasing again.

Worked well on my steps and driveway during the recent blizzard. No damage or permanent staining to my bricks or cement. The bag is a nice strong plastic, but mine did not come with any reseal mechanism. I will definitely buy more to be prepared for the next battle against Mother Nature.

Works great on sidewalks and easy on pets' paws

In my city, we are in the worse February series of snow storms since 1949. Normally I don't need de-icer on my sidewalk but I have this month. This product worked so well that I have given some to my neighbors to try and we are all very impressed with this ice-melter, as it works as it says and does not affect pets' paws and nearby shrubs. Great product and will purchase again.
