Surprisingly useful

People love to dunk on these things, mostly because you can do more or less the same thing with two big forks. I disagree for two reasons:
1) do you actually have two forks this big? I don't, and I often find dinner size forks both take forever to shred the meat, and tend to bend.
2) These let you pretend to be wolverine. Forks don't.

If you make smoked pork shoulder much, these are actually really useful.

If Wolverine made pulled pork...

These claws are awesome! I bought them for a white elephant gift exchange and wish I had bought a second pair for myself when they showed up. These bad boys are sharp and well-built. Be careful!

Pulled pork made easier
by Beaker07 (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought these with the intention of using them while cooking my pulled pork. Usually I've got 2 forks in my hands for turning the meat while cooking and shredding it after. I got these and the first time I used them it was great! So much easier to flip the meat while it's cooking and they make shredding so much easier on your hands! It also cut down the time it took me to actually shred the meat and it did just as good of a job as using the couple of forks. If you shred meat for anything I would recommend these!!

Work great but no response from company
by Steve (4 out of 5 stars)

I've only used these once or twice, but they worked really well. Still, I can't help but think, as another reviewer mentioned, that they would be better with an additional tine or two, decreasing the spacing between them. I emailed the company inquiring about the possibility of an update to the product to do this, and never received a response. Still, it's a simple product that you can't really go wrong with, and from what I can see is the best available solution. Certainly much better than using forks.

Call me Edward Scissor Claws

I happen to smoke pork shoulders several times per year and I have found nothing that helps you pick up a hot pork shoulder off from the smoker grill better than the Charcoal Companion. Keeping the pork shoulder in one piece as it cools after cooking assures that you will have some nice moist pulled pork. Stainless steel make cleanup very easy. After the pork shoulder has sufficiently cooled, the Charcoal Companion works well to pull it into pulled pork for serving. You won't go wrong with this purchase!

Not sharp
by Nosilloc (1 out of 5 stars)
April 22, 2018

All these warnings of them being sharp and there is not even an edge on them. The tips of the blades are rounded. Either I got one that was severely defective or these aren't worth bothering with. At least they are sturdy. The handle feels like it's positioned wrong, like the angle of the blades isn't right, and the back of the metal fingers presses into the between your fingers like it will rub it wrong with extensive use.

Scissor-Hands

Pulls pork beautifully. Any meat. Good for making Mexican "stringy beef" dishes and others where the meat must be shredded. I don't get them anywhere near charcoal so I think the name is too limiting. I'm sure the uses are limited only by the imagination. I have used the tongs to pull items from boiling water and toast from the toaster. Handy little gizmos.

Super easy to use and it gives more control than other shredders. You don't have as much pressure required because you have a full grip around where the claws come through.

A Must for the Kitchen!

This makes three companions we have ordered from Amazon. One for our home, one for our niece, and one for her daughter. We all like our companion. When we saw the great niece using the one that belonged to her mother, that was a good idea for her birthday. So, the third companion ordered was for the great niece's birthday, which was so sweetly appreciated. This is a good item for the kitchen, and we would recommend it for every household.
