Not a recorder, just a toy night vision optic.
by Mark Masaki,Top Contributor: Archery (5 out of 5 stars)

I had low expectations purchasing this due to the typical lower quality electronics Nerf uses for their toys (Elite Camera ECS-12 and Elite Battlescout cameras, respectively) compared to the expensive professional equipment on the market today. Nerf Guru, "Coop" showed the world through his YouTube channel that this was not so great, and that also helped to lower my expectations going into this review. At first glance, I found it to be a lot larger in person. This thing is a hulking monstrosity of an attachment. After installing the 4 AA batteries (not included) to operate this optic sight, I noticed the weight of the attachment increased considerably to the left. There is a knob on the right that supposedly tightens the attachment part's grip on the tactical rail, but it can still be removed even though it is in the locked position. It just keeps it a bit more secure when the user is running about, which is about enough to prevent it from falling off and breaking (provided it does not hit rocks or something solid like tile or a cemented surface). The rubber screen shroud is firm and provides better coverage than the Elite Camera ECS-12 blaster's camera shroud, and actually does block some [lower level] sunlight from distorting your view of the screen. There are 7 Infrared LEDs surrounding the camera lens which is sunk into the middle to allow it to see things in the dark with less interference from the LEDs themselves than if it were to be right flush up next to it. Coop said in his review that the day vision worked better than the night vision at night, but mine performed better in the dark using night vision mode, as depicted by the hieroglyphics next to the switch on the top left near the back of the attachment. This switch is obviously used to switch between the modes; night, day, and off (moon, sun, and O). The other switch on the top center of the attachment is the zoom toggle switch. This switch allows you to zoom in and out x1, x1.5, x2, x3, x4, and x5. There is no lag, and if there was, it must have been very little because I was unable to detect any. The day screen setting shows in grey, black, and white with some hints of blue and orange accents that are still slightly visible. As expected, the night screen setting is shown in different hues of green and black. In conclusion, this is a very cool and fun tactical attachment that does what it is designed to do for the amount you pay for it, so it is highly suggested that if you were planning on purchasing this product, that you try to get it on sale if at all possible. Whether you feel it justifies it's use as a toy or not is strictly your own opinion, but let it be known that it operates in both the light and in the dark enough to allow for those in favor of this device to be considered a valid choice... if tactics are your thing.

Not at all what I expected...much better than I expected!

What can I say other than, "WOW!!!"

Let me tell you, I was honestly just expecting to get a scope that just had a green filter on it, you know, nothing fancy. Nope!!! This is a legit night vision device. It has passive, starlight night vision (ambient light amplification) and no kidding active night vision (where IR LEDs light up the room and the camera detects it.). I could quite literally put this on my real rifle. I am very, very impressed!!! Probably the best modulus attachment ever made!

Not Bad...

This is nice, however, it is just a black-and-white camera with a display screen right behind it, and a zoom function. Also, the ring of infrared lights around the camera turn on in night mode, (There is a three-position switch, with on, off, and night mode.) and that enables you to see in the dark.
(This actually works better than you think, you can walk into complete darkness, and see pretty well, but it's mostly a outline.) One of my favorite functions is that the tactical rail attachment point has a lock, so it will not sway like a normal Nerf scope. (It's heavy too, with 4 AA batteries.)

On thing I did not like about it, is that the gray thing around the view port is a very stiff rubber, which can leave a mark under your eyebrow if you're really looking hard. Not a great scope, but good for finding your enemies in a battle. Not exactly worth 50$.

Very cool for a kids toy add-on. I found myself wandering around outside at night, playing.. uh testing it for the kids.

Works great for what it is.

Had it now for 4 Mo's and 0 issues and alot of fun. Coolness factor 5/5.

Thanks for reading my review. Have a great day.

You probably don't want to bother.
by Iren Masot (3 out of 5 stars)

Hey, if you're under 18 and trying to convince your parents to get one of these, don't bother. It kinda works to see stuff at night but you can only see a space about a foot wide, from twenty feet away. Like, imagine playing Minecraft but you can only see a single block at a time. That's how bad it is. Your friends who aren't using a scope like this will shoot you a lot easier. During the daytime this scope can zoom in on stuff, but your darts will never go that far. It looks cool and you might get some shock and awe from it at first, and then you'll throw it in your closet after trying to use it for a week and not shooting anything better.

Okay, are the kids gone? Cool, so I'm just gonna re-iterate what I said earlier. The field of view for this scope is utterly tiny. Trying to use this indoors is a non-starter. You might argue that this wouldn't be a problem outdoors where you can get further away from what you're shooting at, but you need to keep in mind how Nerf darts work. They don't launch with a ton of speed; Nerf darts fly more like artillery, and need to have an arc plotted out by the shooter in order to hit things at range accurately. You point your gun upwards to hit things further away from you. With this scope, you'll find yourself looking up to the sky in order to launch a dart with an accurate arc.

Last but not least the night vision actually works! Sort of. Not really. In a totally dark room, you can see things by looking through that little screen. Sure you can! But that tiny field of vision, needing to aim up to be accurate... Maybe this could be useful if the scope had a 1x1 level of zoom, basically a setting with no zoom. That might make the field of view more bearable. As it is it starts at 1.5, and then 2, 3, 4, and 5 times zoom. In the daytime the zoom is maaaaybe a cool toy, but you can just look at the same thing with your eyes for how low the screen resolution is.

Look, just don't bother. Get 3-d printed iron sights from Etsy plus some glowing darts. Those will get some use.

Works well but eats batteries

My son loves this! It does work really well. The only thing preventing 5 Stars is the number of batteries it requires and how quickly it uses them up.

AWEFUL! THE NIGHT VISION BLINDS YOU!
by Julia (1 out of 5 stars)

The picture is blurry, not crisp like you'd expect for the year 2019. The "night vision" TOTALLY BLINDS YOU! I used it at night and it hurt my eye so badly. I couldn't see for like 5 minutes! And a child is supposed to play with that?? I think not. I wanted to return it because it was too expensive for a piece of junk like that, however my son liked the fact he could zoom in. He is not allowed to use it at night and not allowed to turn on the night vision. Aweful....way to blind your customers nerf >:(

My son is thrilled with this. It's not the clearest image but what can you expect from a toy.

Remember it's a Toy
by Matt9z9 (5 out of 5 stars)

Things I like. 1. It instantly makes any blaster look tacticool (coop fan) lol. 2. It's pretty neat seeing the darts shoot across the screen. 3. Night vision works great considering it's just a toy. 4. The lock is really cool to help it stay on the blaster.

Things I don't like. 1.zoom function is absolutely useless do not use it to keep it in 1x and you'll be fine. trust me.

All in all. I recommend this attachment is pretty cool it's a gimmick. And just remember it's a toy it's not going to be perfect. But this will be a really cool attachment to have 20 years from now.
