The Waterphone is a unique, hand-crafted, water-filled musical instrument that creates hauntingly ethereal sounds reminiscent of humpback whale calls or the eerie, sci-fi sounds produced by a theremin. Because the Waterphone is atonal, it is easy and fun to play! No instruction is required.

To play the Waterphone, the resonator chamber is first filled with a small amount of water. The sound is produced by bowing the stainless wire times (spokes) using a violin bow or percussively by lightly striking the resonator chamber or tines with a mallet, drumstick or by hand.

The extended length of the column and the light-weight materials used in its construction makes it easy to hold while playing. Ruggedly constructed from 18/10 stainless steel the Waterphone is extremely durable.

I'm a sound designer and I loved adding this instrument into my collection and to have it in my pallet to colour sound design for all kinds of video/movie projects. Not just horror movies but also for commercial edits this can be usefull. Really usefull for me and very versatile if you're a bit creative in how you use it. Well worth the money for me, as I can also use it commercially. There were some issues with customs (who held the package) but it was quickly and swiftly dealt with with the help of the seller.

So the problem here is that they tried to make this instrument tuned to an interval....if you notice in the picture the spines are all very symmetrical. This should be an atonal instrument with the tallest spine at one end of the equator that gradually shrinking to smallest spine at the other end of the equator. This allows all notes and micro-tones.

Cheap knockoff of an original masterpiece by Richard Waters. Buying this and similar waterphones is doing a disservice and dishonoring the late creators work. You're better off springing for the original!

It's a real weird instrument. Basically you pay someone a lot of money for an instrument any jackass could make in their garage. Since you can't play music on it and the intent is just weird ass sounds... Would it really be any different if someone was black out drunk and made one? I don't think so... But hey, it's still neat. If you get mad that you can't make the sound you want, you can go into a rage and chuck it at a wall. It will sound the same as if you played it on purpose. So there's that.
