Nice, but a little stiff until properly lubed

Hanayama has the best puzzles. I haven't solved this one yet, but I wanted to give a heads-up about stiff movement of the parts.

There are three small discs that rotate within the outer shell. They move somewhat stiffly due to metal to metal contact. I applied some Prolix Total Gun Care Solvent 4 oz. with Pop-Up Squirter Cap
, wiped off the excess, and now they move much more freely. Prolix is a dry lube and will not leave an oily residue.

This product led me to believe it was much larger than it was. It is only the size of a 50 cent piece. In my opinion overpriced for such a small puzzle. It is a gift for a family member so it will not be opened for a few weeks. Honestly I am truly disappointed, would not recommend buying this item unless a super mini puzzle is what your into.

Husband opened the puzzle told me it was supposed to be small, and was very excited to have a puzzle from Hanayama. Apparently puzzle geeks totally dig them. Overall he said it was a bit stiff and hard to get moving. Nonetheless still hasn't solved it.

I really like this one. The necessary moves aren't complex, but you have to think about it a bit to find the right way to position the layers.

A brilliant, devious puzzle

This is a great puzzle for beginner puzzlers. Very affordable, but with the typical high-quality Hanayama craftsmanship and durability. The puzzle is quite difficult, and requires some elbow grease even if you know the solution, which makes it somewhat frustrating.

The puzzle consists of 3 rotating rings inside the "cake" casing. The goal is to remove the rings.

The two main negatives of this puzzle are:
-The cake casing seems like it was constructed from 2 separate parts, with a seam. This gives the false illusion that the two halves can be separated.
-The rotating rings will quite sticky upon first opening the puzzle, and it was very hard to move them independently into the correct positions. For me, they loosened up well on the second and third attempts, making it far more manageable. A small amount of lubricant (vaseline, etc) would also do the trick and get things moving freely right off the bat.

I am really into puzzles, and I was beginning to figure them out to quickly and never look at them again. With this one, it was more difficult to do, and even after I finished it I wanted to go back and do it again. I enjoyed these puzzles and plan on buying more in the future.

My boyfriend is a huge puzzle freak, he loves puzzles. Bought him this with a few others and he loved it. Mind you hes really good at puzzles so it only took him like an hour to figure it out. This puzzle might be better for someone who isn't a puzzle wiz.

I found this to be a challenge. I just started buying hanayama puzzles because they look amazing. I have 6 of them and all are great! A real test of patience and logical thinking make them very satisfying. Highly recommend these puzzles. But mind you they are not easy.

first puzzle i bought, took me about 4-6 hours too figure out. definitely not a good entry point but I really like the thought process to open it. great puzzle overall. is a bit small for people with thick fingers, mine are thin and i still wish it was a bit wider to handle it better, that said not a big enough issue to detract from the enjoyment.

I love the size, shape, and feel of the Cake puzzle! I love spinning the inner piece so much that I have long given up trying to solve it. The motion of simply moving the center piece round and round is so soothing and relaxing. Perfect for fidgety fingers while thinking about other things. Even helped me get to sleep on those nights of insomnia.
