Product Description

Blackboard by Boogie Board is the first-ever writing tool featuring Liquid Crystal Paper, offering a new way to plan, write and design by hand that somehow feels like nothing new at all. Unlike other electronic writing solutions offered by more expensive tablets and smart devices, Liquid Crystal Paper writes with absolutely no lag or delay with nothing to turn on, plug in or charge – making Blackboard ideal for all writing activities like notes, lists, sketches and more. Perhaps its biggest breakthrough is its 8.5" x 11" Letter-sized, semi-transparent writing surface that allows writers to electronically write on any document, photo, map, or even digital screens – ideal for collaborative editing, designing floor plans, tracing, planning, and writing over templates. Several templates are included with Blackboard, including lines, grids and more. A single touch of its Clear button erases the entire writing surface, but now for the first time ever, Blackboard offers precise control for a pencil-like erasing experience using exact-erase technology. For work that needs saved, the free Blackboard mobile app allows writers to capture, save, organize, search and share.

and absolutely love them! The only reason I've purchased so many ...
by Robert Moore (5 out of 5 stars)

I've purchased several Boogie Boards in the last few years, and absolutely love them! The only reason I've purchased so many is because I keep losing them or breaking them through my own clumsiness (nothing as simple as just dropping it). I work in customer service, and tend to jot down notes while talking to customers, and Boogie Boards have saved me from 1. Wasting scrap paper and 2. Violating our clean desk policy which prohibits customer information from being left laying out on the desk. With a quick press of a button, I'm ready to go for my next phone call!

Great Idea - Not Yet a Finished Product
by Mark C. Rosenberg (2 out of 5 stars)
December 5, 2017

I've been waiting years for this product to be released - specifically a Boogie Board in which you could erase just part of the screen.

Unfortunately, it's quite clear this is not yet a finished product. One of the major issues is that there's a "configuration" for your "preference" of how much you want the eraser to actually erase. With Setting 1 being that it just smudges the writing around - and Setting 12 being that it completely erases - as should be the only setting. However, the reason for any of these settings is that in addition to either smudging or actually erasing, as you go from Setting 1 to 12 - once you use the exact erase feature (once), all of the writing on the screen then becomes permanently dimmer until you erase the entire screen again. So you basically need to decide how much actual erasing you want vs. how dim you want the text to become.

The major problem however is that even before you use the exact erase feature on any Setting level - the writing on the screen is too dim, especially compared to any other Boogie Board.

It's a great idea, which is why I gave it 2 stars - but I returned it. Unless I held it directly in front of me, and tilted it until the light hit it just right, even on Setting 4, once the exact erase feature was used just once - I couldn't easily read any of the text.

I'm hoping that they fix these obvious issues, and release a new version soon, which I would purchase.

Love the idea, hate the storage/ease of use regarding templates.
by Amy (2 out of 5 stars)

I love the size and clarity of the "letters" but am very disappointed regarding the templates. I was only able to place 1 template on the backside and that was with using tape to keep it from falling out. Maybe it was something I did but there were no directions regarding the templates anywhere in the packaging (I looked on every piece of packaging, front and back). Finally, I was excited to learn that I could erase a section but when I tried the image was left darker and the part which was erased was not easy to do.

All of that being said, my daughter loves it and utilizes it everyday for her math homework. Having the templates with the lines is great and the board is much cleaner than a white erase board!

Possbily the best of the boogie boards...
by MrBios (3 out of 5 stars)

Eraser works ok. Be careful not to hit the round center button which deletes everything on the screen. Pen falls off the screen easily as the magnet that holds it is very weak. If you loose the pen the fun is over. There is a lock which prevents the center button from erasing. I also own the Boogie Board Sync which cost $80 when I bought it. The pen makes finer lines than this model but the sync is poor and not worth paying for.

Final con... no water resistance, too easily damaged to use outside. Pen fell in the grass and I was lucky to find it.

Pros: I like the line paper insert, I wish extra's were included.

I recommend the cheapest basic BB and if you don't mind spending extra for this you get a bigger screen, lines, ability to erase individual words with the Eraser on the pain or any eraser for that matter) give up durability and the paper insert can get damaged or fall out so not suitable for kids.

Eraser just didn't work...
by Grimmit (2 out of 5 stars)

So I chose this product for it's ability to erase (the pencil eraser). I tried to calibrate the product multiple times without success. Given that this product is $45, I expected the eraser to work, otherwise it's a normal boogie board. I think I'm going to try the sync, no eraser, but at least I can save files.

College
by DUSTIN (5 out of 5 stars)
September 16, 2018

I currently use this Blackboard for College and it is perfect for my math class.

PROs:
8x11 SCREEN: Plenty of space for my math equations (8.5" tablets appeared to be a bit small)

Writes Smooth

Precise

Zero lag

Thin and light. Can easily be carried like a notepad.

Resting Palm causes minor smudging. More like dots. Not a big deal. Surprised of how well it handles.

Contrast is awesome but only in a darkened room.

CONs:

Feels like cheap plastic. The size of this tablet, I feel, should have a more solid build. Can easily be broken if stepped on.

Templates do not hold well in the back. Get a case.

Like iPad or Android, does not do well in well-lit areas.

NEEDS:

Better solid construction

Paper-white background (like a Kindle) and for better use in lighted areas.

Templates are an awesome idea but needs a storage and/or better secure fit

I gave 5 stars cause this Blackboard performs as advertised. It's perfect for what I needed and does the job very well. No problems have come up.

The product turned out to be horrible. Here's why
by Jo Jit Ang (2 out of 5 stars)
July 8, 2018

I had been using those cheap China versions prior to the blackboard. The precision erasing attracted me to this product. The product turned out to be horrible. Here's why:
1) Too sensitive. It picked up marks even as my writing hand rested on it. Never had a clean writing/drawing.
2) Lines are too thick.

The sensitivity makes it practically unusable. I wanted to use it for task taking and erasing/adding completed/new ones as I go along. But marks from pressure ruin the whole screen. I regretted buying this product. Am back to my China cheap board.

Good while it lasted
by Flow (2 out of 5 stars)
June 12, 2018

The bad:
-My board had one of the buttons to stop working altogether in the first week of ownership. In this case it was the "erase" button, which is the entire reason I purchased the blackboard version.
-Orange discoloration on writing surface near the bottom edge
-inner surface where sheets are placed was full of fingerprints and scratches right out of the box

Great in theory...
by Athene (2 out of 5 stars)

Get ready to write really big! If you are like myself and have small handwriting, the letters will blur so much that you cannot read what you wrote.

The surface is VERY sensitive, so be careful not to move your hand across the surface or you will leave a smudge mark.

You can erase mistakes, which is great, however ALL of the writing fades when you do erase a section.

For the price, I am very disappointed in this product.

Addictive!
by Ed (4 out of 5 stars)
May 31, 2018

I love it. I thought it would be shadowed by more sophisticated gadgets like iPads but the truth is that once I started using it I couldn't stop. I use it to practice sketching and since I don't waste paper I practice more often. The thing I would ask them to improve are the plastic background sheets which don't fit to tightly and they tend to slide off the board.
