Finally a drone which can compete with the DJI Mavic.by Bob T. (5 out of 5 stars)
July 10, 2018
This is a fantastic little drone. It is light and extremely portable. It has a great camera with an outstanding 3x zoom. It has a true 25 minute flight time. It has a half-dozen special flight modes as well as the essential GPS position hold and smart RTH. This is the first drone on the market that can honestly compete with the DJI Mavic. Today I flew both the Anafi and the Mavic for several hours. The Mavic has twice the flight range, but the Anafi is competitive or better in just about every other aspect. Overall, I prefer the Anafi as my "travel drone" now.
(I am an FAA licensed drone pilot with six years of experience flying many different drones including the DJI Phantom series, Mavic, and Spark as well as Yuneec, Cheerson, Holy Stone, and Hubsan drones.)
Need to wait for 15 days before unlocking "follow me"...
by Andreas (4 out of 5 stars)

The Anafi is an incredible piece of technology, with stunning pictures and video. It is lightweight and compact, and very portable.
The hardware people did an outstanding job in developing this drone. Where they fall short is on the execution/app side. Having to pay an extra $19.90 to unlock "follow me" is just petty. Why not include this awesome feature in the price, since most people are going to use it. When I tried to click on "Buy" in the app, nothing happened. I rebooted my iphone, still not possible to buy "follow me". Uninstalled and reinstalled Freeflight, still no go. I finally contacted Tech Support, who got back to me within hours (good customer service!). Here is what they said:
"Kindly note that in order to purchase the follow me application you need to have completed the trial version first for 15 days, After completion of the 15 days you will be able to proceed and purchase the application with the normal steps. "
That just blows my mind! I have to wait for 15 days before I can buy the coolest features on the drone? Seriously people? Why? And if you want to slap users with such an onerous policy, how about telling them about this policy, either in the app, or on the website?
Bad quality control
by J. Hoffman (1 out of 5 stars)
September 16, 2018
Chose this over Mavic because of USB-C charging and 180 degree camera. Apparently there is zero quality control on these things.
The first one I received, I was pretty excited about it... Until I realized that one of the feet was damaged (see photos) Mind you, I never flew the thing. Literally only took it out of the case. So, whatever. Amazon has great customer service, I'll just get a replacement.
Second one arrived two minutes ago. Opened the case and.... the same damage in the same spot. Sure, it's only the plastic not fitting together properly, but it's not like this is as cheap as the Parrot Minidrones. More importantly if you can't get the plastic right how in the world can I trust the drone itself (considering it's massively more complicated.)
Really disappointed at this point.
Great image even when you zoom in, flight time above the competition and so quick to unfold and fly

I only got the drone a couple days ago so this is a first review right as I landed my third flight.
To start with, with the Anafi, Parrot brings THREE NEW FEATURES on the drone market AT THIS PRICE POINT.
First, the image: the Anafi captures a crisp 4K HDR which is great to work with in post. Just AirDroped some videos of a crowd from my MacBook Air to my iPhone ...the level of details is amazing even if you pinch and zoom with your mobile.
The other new spec is the upward tilt of the gimbal (180°), this is a totally new perspective and I can't wait to see what creative shots Anafi users will make out of this feature. My own creativity is puzzled.
Lastly this drone offers in-camera zoom capabilities: FINALLY! This is especially great to create a vertigo effect directly from your drone as opposed to creating it in post.
As for the gimbal, even in sports mode, it creates stable footage. I was worried about the 3 axis gimbal (one digital stabilization and three mechanical) but it seems to be working very well, even if I still want to explore that feature. But I read many times that the digital stab was better on the long run as it can't break as a mechanical ones...
As far as the battery goes, I flew for 19min and landed with 17% battery left so we are right in that sweet spot: about 25min per battery. Finally, the drone itself is compact and quick to fold, I'd say less than a minute to operate and coming from a Phantom 3, not having to screw the props on is a big time saver.
Then, on my test-runs the wind was not strong so I couldn't test the 50km/h wind resistance (for comparison, the mavic air is about 40km/h). Maybe I'll write some other post to let you know. Until then, WELL DONE ANAFI !
Professional Video, Reliable, Fun!

First Impressions:
I wound up buying the Parrot Anafi because of my positive experience with the Bebop 2 and the amazing customer support I have experienced through Parrot. In fact, I have over 70 flights under my belt with the Bebop 2 and I still have yet to have one issue that wasn't user related. I am absolutely blown away with the Anafi model. This drone is incredibly small, light, and easy to take anywhere. The entire package is extremely easy to use from operating the drone, downloading firmware, and the use of Free Flight 6. I have conducted 12 flights so far (over 2 hours) and have had zero issues with the Anafi. You can view any of my flights on YouTube by searching Aaron Schug, all recorded in 4K. I will continue to update the review as I fly the Anafi!
Tips for Flying:
This drone, like the Bebop 2 and DJI Mavic drones is very easy to fly. It essentially flies itself. It holds its position via GPS and does a great job of it. Even in high winds the drone remains stable. In fact, without GPS lock (you can tell because the app tells you if you have lock or not), the drone still holds its position quite well but does drift a little. This drone does NOT have anti-collision sensors. Keep in mind that if you don't pay attention, it might just fly into something. I personally don't like to become too reliant on anti-collision because doesn't always work. If you pay attention to your surroundings, you will be just fine without the anti-collision technology.
if this is your first time flying a drone, there are a few things that I would highly encourage you to do. It may seem overkill, but it will save you a lot of money in the long run. Flying a drone can be disorienting, if you play video games, flying this will come naturally. But it will still take practice. That is why I would recommend buying a cheap $20-$30 drone that has no GPS lock, no auto hover, no auto positioning of any kind. If you can reliably navigate your home with a little drone, this thing will be easy. Ensure that you have all the firmware updates on the drone, the app, and the Sky Controller 3 before flying. Take things slow when you first fly your drone. Keep it in video mode for the first flight; video mode slows the actions of the drone down for better video quality. This is great to learn with since the drone will move more slowly. Conduct your first flight in a big open area such as a park. Test all of the features of the drone at this big open area. Test the GPS lock, the return home, the dronies, sport mode, everything you can. This not only familiarizes you with the drone and its features, but ensures that the drone is reliable in those features such as the very important return home. Before every flight conduct a flight check. My flight checks include calibration the drone. It takes about 30 seconds and will help ensure that the drones compass is correct. I also check that the props are secure, the battery is locked in, and that you have GPS lock on both your drone and your mobile device before taking off.
Free Flight 6:
The new Free Flight 6 app is very user friendly. If you are use to Free Flight Pro, you will see that it is similar, but a much more polished app. It is very easy to navigate settings, set up a flight plan, or use the Dronies/Follow Me/Camera Man features. The one downside is that you do have to pay for the Follow me and Free Flight functions. Thankfully they are well worth the money because they work very well. I think of it as an investment to fund parrot on making the apps work better. I actually got an e-mail from Parrot that offered both the Follow Me and Flight Plan apps for $0.99 each for being a loyal customer! The downside is that I already bought the additions and google play wouldn't help me out. So if you have owned any Parrot drones before, you might want to set up the drone and add it to your Parrot account right away so they see you bought the Anafi. Then wait a week or so to see if you will get the offer!
Flight Time/Batteries:
I can't believe how much flight time you get out of such a tiny battery. I really like the way that Parrot integrated a light bar in the battery so you can see the level of charge. You never want your lipo batteries to be too low or too high in charge if you are storing them. Hopefully a company out there will make a charger that will give you more data on the battery and allow you to "storage" them like the Bebop 2 had. I am fortunate enough to have a phone with a USB C cable, so charging the battery is very easy for me as I have multiple cables and ways to charge the battery. I have noticed that the battery does take a very long time to charge, hours in my experience. It may be worth buying a GoPro supercharger to speed up the charge times a bit. The batteries are also very expensive. If you want to have a spare or two, it will cost you $99.99 each!
Camera:
The camera on the Anafi is extremely nice and is made by Sony. It is clear that Parrot wanted to be recognized as a company that can make a more serious drone. You have the option of 4K HDR (30FPS), 4k, and 1080p (60FPS). The camera works very well. As with any camera, the best time to use it is when there is adequate light. My first use with this drone was around 7:30am with overcast skies. The video still looked good, but not great (this is the case with any camera). When you fly in well lit scenarios, the quality of the camera truly shines. You can achieve lossless X3 zoom! The zoom also helps make some really cool videos. One of the really neat things about this camera is the ability to look straight up!
Range:
The distance you get out of this drone can vary depending on where you are flying. If you are in a residential area where there is a lot of Wi-Fi such as around houses or near hotels, you will lose connection very easily. This is the main reason why I think drone makers should move away from Wi-Fi for drones. However, when you fly in an area with very little/no Wi-Fi and a clear line of sight, you can get amazing results. I was able to fly mine just over two miles, the drone returned home on its own even though it didn't completely lose signal which seemed odd, but it still got out very far. There were even some houses/businesses around. By the time the Anafi had gotten back to me it still had 31% battery too!
Bad customer service from Parrot, downgraded to 1 star.

Updated review 7/18/2019:
I am downgrading my review to 1 star, not for the seller, but for Parrot. I received a replacement drone, brand new, from them. From the get-go, it had problems connecting to GPS. Mind you I flew in exactly the same location as before. The new one would take much longer to get a GPS lock, we are talking minutes as opposed to seconds. It would easily lose lock if you flew between buildings, in other words, anytime you did not have a 100% open view of the sky all around you, you would get weak signal that fluctuated and went to red. On forums people said exchanging it solved the problem. But Parrot refused to exchange mine saying nothing was wrong with it. I should have stuck with a DJI. I especially missed the much more refined controller for my Phantom 3 Advance...you have much better control with it than with this Anafi's controller. Again totally bummed out, I had wanted to really like this Anafi.
Old review:
Got this refurb because it is a good price compared to new. The day after I bought this, I found a deal for $499, but still the price difference is worth it for the refurb IMHO. And it does come with a 90 day warranty. This unit really did look brand new. Packaging was really good. I couldn't fly it much because the wind was on the high side. I did need my own lightning cable to connect my phone to the controller. I really do like how this drone is so much more quieter than my old DJI Phantom 3 Advanced!
One problem I already had was even though the drone was off, the fan kept running. I tried turning the drone on, but at that point the LEDs would come on but then shut down, and the fan would still keep running. Finally I removed the battery, put it back in, and then it was fine again. Seemed like a weird glitch. I will definitely have to play around with it some more, but from first glance it really does look like a new product.
I included a video, please forgive me for the actual drone footage because I just wanted to do a quick flight and wasn't really concerned about nice slow movements. The footage was originally recorded at 4K HDR 30fps and then scaled down to 1080p with iMovie.
Update: I use an iPhone 8 Plus, which seems to be on the extreme end of phone sizes for the controller. I have a leather Apple case, which is slim, so with the case it still fits into the controller. Be careful with some cases because some cases are inherently slippery, and Apple's leather case has been known for this. Anyway, my phone slipped out of the controller on the bottom bracket, and the spring slammed my phone into the control sticks. One of those sticks when pushed down will control your throttle, so guess what happened? The drone slammed into the ground! With just the iPhone 8 Plus without a case, I don't think this would have happened. I'm not going to use my leather Apple case anymore because this was not the only time a slip occurred because of it. Thankfully I was only at about 1-2 feet height so I only suffered scratches along the bottom since I was flying at my asphalt driveway. Drone still works great! I highly recommend learning and being comfortable with the hand launch and landing.
If you want to drop DJI, Parrot is a viable choice.

I'm up and flying 30 seconds after unfolding the Anafi. Open remote control, snap in my Samsung Galaxy S9 (while still in the case!) plug included USB-C cable into remote then to phone. Click FLY. Then.....FLY! Camera is adequate for anything an amateur would need, and not bad for a more advanced video enthusiast. FPV video is good. The Parrot Free Flight 6 app is rock stable. The DJI Go app crashed every third flight on my Android. One Huge CON for the Anafi is the memory card placement and retention system. Under the battery, under a flimsy metal gate. You either unsnap the battery, gingerly slide the SD card gate out of the way, remove, and put in your reader, or wait for 25% of your batteries life to transfer the huge files to the phone. Bottom line, this drone fly's fast, responsive, agile, quiet, and for a long (25 min) time. The included 16 gig card is inadequate, you'll fill it quickly. Buy a 64 or 128 Ultra fast and enjoy a great drone. Obstacle avoidance never helped me flying my Spark or Phantom, so it's absence on the Anafi doesn't really matter much to me. UPDATE 5/8/2019 After many hours of flight time and months of ownership, I'm still in love with this drone.
A good, small portable drone

*Updated Review*
Since I first reviewed the Anafi, I have had more time to fly and experiment with the drone. Obviously, the wifi range is very dependent on where you fly. But the Anafi does seem to be even more susceptible to wifi interference than other drones (including the Parrot Bebop 2) that I have flown in the exact same areas.
With that said however, I have found that the Anafi does have very good flight range in areas that have little interference. I have actually been able to fly it over 5000+ feet before losing signal. That is impressive.
The bottom line on wifi range is that when it is good, it is very good, but when it is bad, it is very bad.
I have also been quite pleased with the Smart Return to Home performance of the Anafi when initiated due to signal loss or low battery.
Due to my further experiences with the Anafi, I am raising my review rating from 3 Stars to 4 Stars. It still has some room for improvement, but I am liking it much more.
One new issue that I have had is not being able to download videos or pictures to my phone (Galaxy S9+) through the FreeFlight 6 app like you are suppose to be able to do. I have made sure that the app has the proper access permissions and have tried three different SD cards in the drone and even tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it with no success. I am hoping this will be corrected in a app update soon.
*Original Review*
--------------------------
- Video and Image quality are excellent (better than expected actually).
- Good gimbal control and image stabilization with unique 180 degree tilt.
- Auto-focus and auto-exposure are impressive.
- Very stable, maneuverable, and quiet in flight.
- Lightweight and portable, but the carrying case should have been designed to carry the controller as well.
- The app is okay with a well laid out FPV screen and easily accessible controls and adjustments, but it lacks more detailed flight control adjustments.
- Very disappointing wifi range in urban areas at only 500 to 1,000 feet...well bellow the advertised distance.
- Flight time is okay, but given the drone's small size and minimal weight, it should have been designed for much longer air time.
Overall I would classify it as a hybrid between a very good toy and semi-professional flying camera, but honestly I was hoping for more.
Updated Review: Mediocre experience
by Tom Xavier (3 out of 5 stars)
July 28, 2018
Updated review: The comments I made below still hold true, I like this drone. BUT...I've started having issues and Parrot has been dragging their feet in helping me, and actually started giving me the runaround, requesting the same information, over and over, in a loop. They claimed they would send me a replacement drone because I had one of the first ones shipped, but that has not happened so far and this is dragging into 2 months of dealing with them.
The issue I've experienced is the Video dropping out. When I power up the drone, the screen is blank on my phone. I've also had the video stop during a flight. I have to reboot the system several times until the video link does start to work. The first support agent acted like this is a known thing with the first lot, but they have not followed up with fixing it or replacing it with newer hardware. Hopefully they will come through.
My initial experience up until the video dropped out after 6 months:
The drone is really fun to fly. It is small, and compact, but has good stability. It has comparable features to the other higher end platforms. I am not going to get into all the details, as other reviewers have done that quite nicely already. What I do want to convey is that the drone is fun, and takes really nice photos and video. I really enjoy flying it, and really like the controller, and the software. It does give nice long flight times as advertised. The only concern I had was the unit has a fan built in. A fan means heat is being removed by forced air. We'll see how well this holds up over time.
I wanted to try a different manufacturer than DJI because the P2V+ product I own failed prematurely, and they failed to repair it. It suffered from the video link failure that most other P2 series user seem to eventually face. I already paid $1300 for the drone and another $150 to repair it and I was not satisfied. DJI did not step up to make it right, so I am going with another company. I did not want to give any more business to DJI at this time.
Hopefully the Parrot product will have good longevity and support. I will update this review with any significant product observations if they occur.
Happy flying!

You've seen the videos and read all the great reviews. That's why you're on this page, considering buying this drone. Well here's your chance to finally make up your mind. Guys, this drone sucks. No, i'm not still angry about the bad experience I had with it. In fact, the bad experience usually isn't enough to make me write a review. I'm a drone guy and this drone looked awesome from the videos on YouTube. Let me tell you why this drone sucks. The app is horrible. It takes several attempts to get the app to recognize your phone when it's connected. Let an experienced drone flyer warn you now, that bad apps WILL make you crash or lose your drone. This drone does not have obstacle avoidance. Not a big issue for me because I'm an experienced drone flyer. However, for $550 bucks, this thing needs to have obstacle avoidance. The drone feels so cheap I almost laughed. They might as well stamp Fisher Price on this drone. If this drone crashes, it's a definite goner. This drone is very unstable. It doesn't hover well in place and the slightest breeze will ruin your footage. The camera bobbles every now and then which also ruins your footage. Parrot makes your pay for certain features like Follow Me. And it's not cheap. It's around $30. The gimbal is only a 2 axis mechanical with the third axis being digital. What does that mean? It means footage that is less smooth. The controller is giant piece of crap. It's bigger than the drone. And it will not allow you to mount a larger tablet. An Ipad Mini is the biggest tablet it will accommodate. By now, if you're still thinking about taking your chance with this drone, then I wish you all the luck you can find. Trust me, you're going to need it.
