Best Pet Tracker on the Market!
by Virginia Myers (5 out of 5 stars)
October 8, 2018

Before I go into how great Findster is, let me start by saying that I have purchased (and returned) *every* GPS/dog tracker that exists. All of them. None of them have lived up to the hype, been worth the upfront cost (+ monthly data tracking fees), or actually had a battery life that made me feel like it would work with my lifestyle.

Findster Duo arrived in a great box with clear/easy instructions. I took both devices (device #1 for the pet; device #2 for the guardian/owner) out of the box and charged them while downloading the Findster app. After the app downloaded, I synced the two devices via Bluetooth to my iPhone/app and we were ready to go on our first adventure! My pups and I live on a farm and they often go on jaunts/rambles/excursions chasing deer, etc. I was mostly interested to see where exactly they go and how far away they go. Findster supposedly works up to three miles in open spaces and up to half a mile in denser (more urban) environments. So far, my dogs have been up to two miles away and the Findster devices have maintained clear, easy contact with my app, so I know exactly where my dogs are and where I can go look for them if needed.

The app is so easy to use and I love that it tells me how much exercise my pups have gotten in addition to exactly where they are. The devices (the one I carry + the ones my pups wear) are so lightweight and do not seem affected by water or mud. There is also a leader board so you can see how much exercise other Findster-wearing dogs are getting, which is a fun/community-building idea.

My main concern was the battery life, but so far, the devices have stayed charged as long as I have needed them-- I have used them for 9-10 hours with no problem (and significant battery power leftover) and both devices charge with lightning speed. I am so impressed with this device. It does exactly what I have wanted an dog tracker to do for years. Such a great device! Thanks, Findster, for keeping my pups safe!

OK Tracker with one issue
by Cyard (3 out of 5 stars)

Overall an ok tracker to get a general idea of where your pet is in map mode. Range was good and did not experice any issues in semi wooded open area. However the "radar" page is often not accurate and shows pet behind when pet is visably 20-40 yards ahead. Switch tracker back to map mode and it shows pet accurately ahead. Hopefully a software update might correct this.

Didn't Work For Us.
by S. Zenishek (1 out of 5 stars)
September 21, 2018

Was very hopeful the Findster would work for us as we liked the no-monthly-fee option. The system and app were fairly easy to set up until it came to putting the app on a second phone. Turns out only ONE phone at a time will work. My husband's iPhone seemed to work better than my Android phone. If one of us left home we had to remember to turn that phone's bluetooth off and turn bluetooth on on the phone on that was near the dog. Several times after my husband left I couldn't get my phone to connect to the module on the dog collar rendering everything useless. Also, the app features were different on each phone. Mine would never notify (even when set to do it) me if our dog left the "safe zone" again making it useless. After much testing, we could never get tracking to work beyond 1/4-1/2 mile in our rural setting.

One Pro...the unit that fits on the collar is small. My 18 pound dog never noticed it was there.

Unfortunately we are returning the system.

FINALLY! A way to keep my escape artist dog safe without annoying monthly charges!
by Lance Liebgeld (5 out of 5 stars)

I wish I could say that my dog is getting more mellow with age now that he's no longer a puppy, but that's certainly not the case. He loves being outside, runs like the wind, and is always craftily looking for a way to sneak out the door.

Following one incident where he bolted out while I was bringing in the groceries when it took me three hours to find him (a call came in from a nice couple a mile away; he had, of course, charmed them into giving him food), I started looking into tracking systems for his collar so that I could keep tabs on him in the event he orchestrated another jailbreak.

A friend of mine is a techie and had loaned me his Whistle (he lost his dog in a break-up), but the UI was awful, the signal unreliable, and the monthly fees infuriating. Not long after he told me about Findster, and after a fair amount of research online (there weren't many reviews on Amazon), I dialed it in.

Simply put, this thing is awesome. Everything from the packaging to the industrial design are top notch, and the software works seamlessly. I tested it out with my brother, and I was able to track his movements flawlessly (he called me while he had it and his location aligned perfectly with what I was seeing in the app). And no fees! I always hate when companies gouge you on a monthly subscription that they hope you'll forget about and pay forever, so this product is a dream in that regard. It was a little more than what I would have paid for a couple other devices like it, but over time it would wind up being more expensive because those pesky fees add up.

All in all, I love this little tracker, and it makes me feel a lot better knowing that the next time my dog makes a break for it I can track him down easily (and hopefully before he bamboozles some distant neighbors out of their food).

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Poor connectivity & battery life
by lokoshimi (1 out of 5 stars)

Maybe this works for some folks, but not us. Hard to believe they get away selling this gadget for $149! Battery lasted much less than the claimed 12 hrs, (8-9hrs tops). Means you'll be charging this thing several times daily if you plan on regular use. We have a cat who dissapears for days at a time which was the main purpose for this purchase. Aside from the weak battery, the app lost connection with our cat 2 out of the 3 nights he went out with it. On the 3rd night connection was lost and then the battery died leaving us clueless as to where our cat ended up! Tech support did their best but just couldn't compensate for a bad product. As soon as he showed up a few days later I packed this piece of junk up and sent it right back where it came from. Much happier to pay a monthly service fee for a different (& cheaper) product when the trade offs include better connection and days worth of battery life. Good luck out there but I wouldn't trust my pet to this product.

Did not track our cat accurately
by S. Lolar (2 out of 5 stars)

We have a cat that likes to jump over the fence and visit all of the neighboring yards. I was hoping to be able to keep an eye on him, make sure he had not wandered too far AND to get an alert when he had left the yard perimeter. It seemed that this was the perfect product.

Except it did not work at all! Even when the cat was quietly sitting under a bush in our yard, Findster would show him wandering around all over the place. I received incessent notifications that "sherlock has left the safety zone" and "sherlock just returned" when...he was sitting still. I emailed the company and they said that when he is sitting still, the unit does not send GPS coordinates. But then insists that even if he moves his neck, the movement should result in an accurate GPS ping. Or something like that. Cats like to sit and sleep. A lot. Or what if a cat was injured and hiding? Then it seems the Findster will be useless in helping you find your pet.

But the next day he left the yard and I could SEE HIM moving around the other yard and the Findster, showed him sitting still in our yard. When I had the pet unit and the main guardian unit and my phone sitting next to each other, it showed ME moving (two yards down?!) and the cat moving the other way.

I reached out again and got this reply: "If your cat moves his neck, even if it is just to look to the sky or to scratch his head, that movement will activate our sensors and the Map screen will register that coordinate.

However, as we're always learning with these experiences, we've add to our product roadmap a slight change to this tracking flow: we'll start to consider the GPS coordinate even if the Pet module stands still on a place. As long as it is connected to the Guardian, the GPS coordinate will be registered, not evey 5/10 seconds, but about every 2 minutes (this is a way of saving energy as well).

This change will be implemented in our system within the next month, so that we can prevent situations like these to happen again (even though they're extremely rare). The only thing you'll need to do is to update the Findster App by then, and won't experience this issue anymore."

This didn't make much sense to me. I've decided to return the product as....it does not work at all.

We've gone with a TILE, as at least that is accurate to some extent and I can at least know he hasn't wandered off to far.

Useless. Save your money
by STEVEN A. (1 out of 5 stars)

Radar could not find my dog even when she was 100 feet away in a field and I could see her. When it did detect her it insisted that she was behind or beside me when I could see that she wasn't. The 1/2 mile range was not experience. Standing on top of the hill, she was out of range before she got to the edge of the field only a few hundred yards away. Then when she when ito the wood, forget it. She was out of range before she got 50 feet away and ran past me several time without the tracker picking her back up. Finally, the app drained my phone battery in 20 minutes of fruitlessly trying to find my missing dog. If you want piece of mind this won't give it to you.

Do not recommend!

I have a Golden Retriever Mix that sometimes wanders off, and since I live in a rural area this is normally not a big deal and he finds his way home. Recently he ran off and was missing for over 12 hours... those 12 hours were some of the longest of my life. For peace of mind I bought this GPS tracker so that when he does decide to wander I can have some way of tracking him and knowing he is safe. BUT THIS GPS IS THE WORST. Both modules have to be updated constantly in order to work but it doesn't tell you when it needs an update.. it just DOESN'T work. Second, the battery life is ridiculous- I rarely had live tracking on yet the battery would maybe last 3 hours. It is also hard to tell when the tracker is actually on as it doesn't seem to flash a different color or anything.

I will be returning this item- my dog ran off two days ago (Christmas Eve) and the battery on died within 35 minutes of him running off so I couldn't track him, even though I had just charged it that morning. He ended up finding his way back home after a couple hours but this device was virtually worthless for the purpose I had purchased it for. Cannot wait to invest in something that will actually do as it says!

Not great for locator for run away dogs

Did not work when I needed it the most! More like a Fitbit for dogs versus a locator

Updated- Great idea but not sure if this product is ready for prime time
by Robert Hosea (2 out of 5 stars)

It's ok but tracking isn't very accurate. Inside or outside made no difference. First hour we had it and our bullmastiff was laying beside me but the app showed that he'd been all around the property. I just opened it.

I don't see a way to clear the path history on the map.

UPDATE - findster team has been great in helping me diagnose the issue plus they sent me 3 extra straps. Firmware helped with the location issues to some degree. Still testing
