Do not Store in a Volcanoby Roman A. (4 out of 5 stars)

What I like: heavy, sturdy, aesthetically pleasing for a garden tool, functionally sharp out-of-the-box.
What I dislike: upon arrival a tacky, resin-like substance had oozed from the pommel and gummed up the rather nice box it came in. This substance is, I assume, an adhesive to ensure everything stays put.
If you discover a similar situation, do not use water, it is ineffective. Alcohol (I used Everclear, an excellent cleaning agent) works perfectly and barely touches the wood finish.
Overall, an excellent tool. The "glue" issue indicates to me that it does not stand being left in a very hot place, so that is the only reason I omit one star. One shouldn't store these in a tin shed in Australia or Nevada. Great otherwise, just keep it out of the oven.
Astounding!!

I've owned a lawn and landscaping company with my father for 20 years and I've always had a hori hori knife for weeding, and planting. But this one compared to my other which the handle broke on and I'm not making another, is hands down the best I've seen and used, the handle is very comfortable, it's not scared to work, I use the saw mostly for roots, but occasionally you'll see me trimming small lower branches of trees and it does the trick, 1000x better than my old one, I'm stuck with this forever, oh and the weight for some reason is also perfect, I wouldn't say balanced but is also part of what makes the tool so comfortable to use.
Love it. Great tool.

I love this thing. It is death to weeds. Works as a hand spade, plus cuts, scoops, shovels. The handle is comfortable and reminds me of a marlin spike. The tool is well made and well worth the money. I own and use this tool and a 3 prong hand rake. I found I do not need any others.

This thing rocks. I can dig up rocks with it. I can cut through branches and dig out tent stakes and, wow, is it neat looking just as is. Works. It works as a campers tool too! Update- it's still great. My mom used it to dig up gopher holes and it's just right for cutting grass and laying it back. It has a tough tang to it. One of us decided to try it as a throwing knife and I hear bywang! Turn around and she's chucking it into the dirt to try and make it stick. Well she missed and no damage. Eventually we figured out how to throw it and stick it into the ground but believe me it's no throwing knife. no breakage with abnormal misuse type use, so I thought that was important.
Awesome!

I bought several as gifts, and manage to keep one for myself - what a great item!
If you do ANYTHING outside, this will be a true friend! Digging, cutting, sawing - it is up for whatever task is at hand!
And while it looks good, it performs even better!
As consumers, we are always looking for an item that provides a quality product or service, at a reasonable price.
This is one of those few purchases you can actually feel good about!
The best hori hori hands down!

I've owned several different hori hori tools over the years and I have to say this tool is the best one I've ever owned. I am an avid metal detectorist and digging in every type of ground conditions possible. This tool holds up to challenge where I'm digging in hard rocky soil or sawing through roots. I'm impressed with the quality and the look as well. I will be purchasing Pulaski ax next.
Looks cool. Period.

Wife is an ER nurse that's selfless, never wants anything. So you can imagine getting someone something that doesn't need or want anything. I bought her this blade as a random gift because she loves plants and she never does or gets anything for herself. Little did I know this tool would be used in every aspect of her gardening. ( I rarely review) serrated edge for woody, clean edge for green clean cuts, curved blade for easy bulb dropping, and a ruler on the blade for depth. The coolest thing about it is, for plant health it can be cleaned buy taking it apart and scrubbing it in warm soapy water. Dry and oil everything immediately after...
Also would be good in improvised home defense.
More for show than anything.

Not very sharp. Kind of faux wear on it. Feels ok in your hand.

Love love love my hori hori! I've had a few and there's no such thing as a bad hori, only better horis. This hori is better, and sharp as all get out. I cut through inch and half plant stalks like they were butter. Great purchase.
