works better than expected

I did a lot of looking for a moveable fire pit. I really wanted the biolite fire pit. But I did not like the idea of listening to a fan , I just wanted to enjoy a fire. So I found this one. It's simple , it was cheaper and works very well. holds more wood than you think. IT's almost smoke free. and does not seem to leave any ashes on the ground. I could not be more pleased. And it packs down like a folding chair. Simple engineering done right .

99% PERFECT
by Mom2TEN (5 out of 5 stars)

We love camping & especially a good camp fire. We were looking for a new fire pit for our tiny backyard, but everything was too large. Not only that, other decorative pits blocked the view of the fire ~ which is my favorite part! This compact fire pit is the perfect solution! We've had really nice size fires with very little clean up. The Pop-up Fire Pit's mesh base allows much more airflow than a traditional pit. We hardly had to tend it at all! Clean up was a breeze. We just hosed it off & hung it to dry for a few minutes. Can't wait to take it on some adventures!

Two Issues:
1. The edges of the 4 pieces which make up the ember guard/tray are really sharp. Our kids will be handling the pieces so we ended up sanding them down.
2. For the price, we were expecting a more substantial carry bag. This one is fine for now, but we're probably going to make a stronger bag out of canvas.

Watch out for wire mesh care
by Shirley Secord (3 out of 5 stars)

Bought this in Feb. for our camping trips this spring and summer, as most fire rings have no air flow or are in wrong place. Upon receipt, read instructions on set up and use. Couldn't wait for our camping trip so put it up on our patio, set up easy, some dry twigs and rolled paper towels more than enough to start split fire wood. Great fire little smoke and burned down to ash, next day dumped ash shook screen and put back in carry bag. Early March used, in FL state park camping trip same results, heat shield worked grass not even scorched, empty ashes each day and start next fire. I noticed some lines on steel mesh screen but thought nothing of it, packed up in carry bag for our long summer trip up north. Upon setting up in northern GA notice a flap in mesh screen, worked as before great fire. Next time we used it in central IL corps camp ground a hole had developed in mesh screen and coals were falling onto heat shield. Put a aluminum foil pad over the hole to protect heat shield. Contacted seller and response was shouldn't of used fire starters. Read directions from the get go and used only paper towels rolled and dry twigs to start fire nothing else needed. All in all great concept, works as advertised, but watch out for wire mesh screen lasted 5-6 fires. Can't get replacement until we get home next month. Very disappointing, going to try and find a way to get around hole seen in pictures.

Burns cleaner then a fire pit. Innovative design.
by Pyracantha (4 out of 5 stars)

Well thought out design that really does allow a lot of air to support a blazing fire. Sets up in about 3 minutes; tears down in about 5 because it's challenging to lift the screen off from below. Super easy to start a fire, but be prepared to feed a lot of wood because of the efficient burn. Because the fire is so well ventilated, you can expect less smoke then a pit fire, but it's hardly smokeless so expect to move around the fire a bit in a shifty breeze. It's a treat to sit around once the fire is down to coals and there's no smoke! As to cons: the rails are pretty thin and flexible. These can be bent easily by hand. I was expecting more rigid material. That said, they do their job and keep down the weight; the screen clogs a bit and needs some wire brushing after use to keeps the mesh open; and as I pointed out earlier, the screen can be a bit challenging to pry out. The screen grommets end up sitting on the rails with no space available to get underneath and coax up. A work around is to not put the screen all the way down to the rails when setting up-leave a 1/2" of space between the grommets and the rail bottoms.

Side note: I bought this from Amazon Wearhouse in "as new condition." It arrived in poor condition, not just used, but absolutely covered in soot, with bent and burned rails, and a screen clogged with ash and burnt food. It took me an hour and a half of scrubbing and pounding with a rubber mallet to clean it up and straighten the rails. Amazon apologized and provided an appropriate discount so all is well.

Great Lightweight Firepit
by JFO (5 out of 5 stars)
January 23, 2019

I bought one last October (2018) before a late Fall rafting trip, and it performed amazingly well. I especially like the lightweight aluminum and stainless steel construction for use on the water (no rust). We burned quite a bit of wood (I'd say 3 store bought bundles) the first night, and the wood burned completely to ash. This made clean-up in the morning quite easy as all that had to be done was to pick up the mesh screen and dump the ash into a can. There was minimal ash that fell through the mesh, however we had a fire blanket/welding blanket underneath to leave no trace, and I would suggest everyone buying this do the same. Overloaded with firewood, the steel mesh sagged, but held together. My friend even baked a cake in a dutch oven on it using charcoal without the grate. Everyone was impressed, both with the cake and the pit. There is a grill grate made for this pit now available, but I have not tried it. My only uncertainty is about the longevity of the steel mesh, so I think I'll buy a backup mesh to have on hand because that seems like the most likely point of failure, but so far so good.

I am Impressed
by Daniel L. Oldenburg (5 out of 5 stars)

First off I bought this for river trips. We have four big river trips planned for this summer all require a fire pan for leave no trace fires. I did my research, extensively, and this one seemed to be the best of all options. I contacted the Colorado Forest Service and did verify this fire pit is accepted on all Forest Service and BLM lands. After looking at this fire pit I will admit I was extremely skeptical at the quality of it. I mean it's hard for me to believe one can have a good fire on a metal screen, but hey weirder things have happened. Anyway I did go ahead and buy it and I will say I was and am completely blown away at how this performs. Everything about this is exactly as it is described by the manufacturer. Its very easy to set up, it will hold a lot of wood, there literally was no ash that came through the screen which docent even seem possible to me. There was a tiny big of ash that was under the fire pit, and I mean a tiny amount I could blow away and you would never know it was there. That ash came from getting in-between the mesh screen and the metal frame and only after a few times of use and being loaded down with wood to where the screen was slightly flared up where it meets the screen allowing a small amount of ash to get blown under it. getting the fire started is very easy, we simply put a ball of dryer lint in the center then built up the fire around that then from underneath the fire pit we lit a match and boom, we had a fire. This is definitely not a compact super light weight fire pit and will not do in a backpacking situation. However for car camping, at your home, a party in the park or on a river canoe/raft trip this bad boy is amazing. On our second canoe trip a mile before out final take out we flipped out canoe on a rapid and we lost our Pop-Up Fire Pit, given up to the River Gods. Once we got home from that trip we got online and ordered another one and this time we also ordered the grill attachment. We're very excited to try out that pup out and grill up some steaks on out next river trip.

All in all I would say, as someone who is very skeptical of things that seem too good to be true, this fire pit is the real deal. I wont buy anything else other than this, again unless I was backpacking and weight and space was an issue. If you are reading this that means you're definitely serious about this particular fire pit and I promise you that you will be so stoked you went with this one over another option.

Must have for all RVers
by Troy (5 out of 5 stars)

This is awesome for RV owners. We use it often and we love it. Very easy to set up, and take down.

It generates a great fire as there is no shortage of air flow to the fire. Cools down very quickly, and the wood burns down to a very fine ash. We are glad we found this because not all campgrounds provide fire pits. We also use it when we dry camp.

A great lightweight fire pan alternative to the typical heavy steel river fire pan.
by W. Nicholls (4 out of 5 stars)
April 16, 2019

I finally got a chance to test this product, which I bought after reading positive reviews from other river runners. Fire pans are required gear on river trips, and we also like to use fire pans when we're car camping in remote areas. We have two steel firepans: one is heavy and the other is really heavy. The really heavy one has an adjustable height grill that is still a good idea for larger groups if we intend to build a fire or use charcoal. Often on trips, we don't do either, but are still required to carry a fire pan. The Pop-Up Fire Pit is a great option since it is both compact and much lighter than a steel fire pan. It's also a very good fire pan if you just want a fire. I thought the stainless mesh would allow more oxygen to the fire for a more thorough burn, but if it did help combustion the effect was very minor. Still, the fire pan is stable and both the height and the reflector seemed to do the job of preventing scorched earth. I'll still carry a fire blanket to put underneath, mostly to catch any stray bits that might be stirred or blown from the pan. We carry out our ashes in a rocket box. My main criticism of this product is the price of the grill options, especially since the grills are not adjustable. It looks like the grill height would be about right for charcoal grilling, but I'm not inclined to get one for now.

Could be a five star product except....
by momandanurse (4 out of 5 stars)

Great lightweight, portable fire pit! Held up to a duraflame log with several pieces of wood on top to create a large bonfire. We had 12+ people around it and it and the fire was so big that at times, we needed to back our chairs up. Smoke was pretty minimal compared to other in ground and portable fire pits. Burned to dust with very little ash to dispose of. Why I took off one star....2 reasons. Number one, it did not come with the fire shield. For $100, and with the product description saying this is "leave no trace", it should be included. It wasn't until after I received it and opened it at the campsite that I realized it wasn't included! I went back to product description to see the "fine print". You have to change the product pull down menu and change it to the $119 dollar version to include the fire shield. I'm pretty annoyed because now I have to pay an additional $25 to have the heat shield sent to me. Not cool. (and without it, it does burn the ground/grass underneath) Number two, the edges of the mesh grate are very sharp. They need to either fix this (and I imagine it's an easy fix in the production) OR warn users to use protective gloves when installing and uninstalling. Fix these two issues and you've got a five star product.
