Poor quality images

Recieved my arlo ultra yesterday and installation was easy, didn't have a hard time setting up cameras but what I did notice is that the range on the arlo Ultra is less than the pro 2. If you look at some of the comparison pictures you can see the signal strength is weaker on the ultra, yet I have the base station in the same place as the pro 2, I am hoping that its a software issue and might be fixed in the future. Another thing is that I don't believe that the clarity is much much greater than the pro 2 but what has changed is the visible angles. The big plus is the led spot light that comes on when motion is triggered. Another issue i came across is getting extra notifications when you have the cameras record when another camera detects motion. Ex. I have it set up that when the driveway camera detects motion the front door camera starts recording as well and vise versa, so in total I get four notifications instead of one. A nice feature that is still in beta is the package detection. The new arlo ultra station also take a bit longer to pull up the cameras than the pro 2, also the notifications tend to take longer opposed to the arlo pro which was almost instantly. I understand it's a fairly new product so I will give it some time and update my review if necessary.

One Word - NO 4K ever
by Christoph Kummer (1 out of 5 stars)

Have had Arlos from the beginning. The quality of the video is a joke on these 4K UHDs. I have never managed to view anything even resembling 1080p. 95% percent of the time the video is a splotchy mess. Cameras are within 10 feet of base station.

Nice camera, but app is lacking
by Hoefje (4 out of 5 stars)

Easy to set up and install. The battery life is great as long as nothing triggers the camera. AI can identify vehicles, animals, and people. But you cannot turn off motion recording (I.e. turn off recording for vehicles) which is a limitation in my opinion. Battery life at front door last about 5 days, and then i need to climb a ladder to remove it, recharge it, and hang it back. The geofences don't work either so every kind of motion triggers a recording. The outdoor charging cable I ordered in January keeps getting pushed back a month at a time. Once that is installed I'll be happier, but with available technology today I should be able to turn off recording for whatever the camera recognizes. Overall image quality is good, but I'm not overly impressed with the 4K recording and the night vision is merely because of the LED light that illuminates whatever triggered it.

Over Hyped!! No Smart-Things capability.
by J. Moore (1 out of 5 stars)
March 29, 2019

I like my Arlo Pro. I love my Arlo Pro2. I have reduced the rating to 1 star because the camera repeatedly goes offline. Arlo Ultra is the worst of the three. I use my cameras to control my interior and exterior lights at night when motion is detected. Both Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro2 are supported in Samsung Smart-Things. Arlo Ultra is not, therefore I can't use it for light control. 4k is good quality, but you can not use the zoom function with 4k. Overall, the product touts many features that you can only use one at a time. You would think that a pricey upgrade like Ultra would be more versatile than it is. If I have to purchase additional cameras, they will definitely be Pro2s.

Overall Good product
by JR (4 out of 5 stars)

Very good video, also audio is better than previous generation. Couple of things I don't like: 1. Only came with one charging/power cable. Additional cables are fairly expensive & are not even available yet to order. 2. They changed from previous cameras on how they are doing the magnetic attachment. Previous cameras had a magnet in the camera so you could easily attach it to anything metal. The Ultra cameras not have the magnet in the mount and the steel in the camera, so the camera will not automatically stick to anything metal, you have to use the mounting attachments. 3. You have to pay more if you want the video to be recorded in 4KHD on top of the fee you are already paying for recording. They also appear to limit you to a max of 2 cameras that you can record in 4K.

Replaced Nest with Arlo, but watch out for all the extra accessories
by Robert Osburn (4 out of 5 stars)
April 3, 2019

The Arlo Ultra was easy to install, though the instructions were lame, Nest told you what drill bits to use. Pictures seem clear and am hoping to catch high schoolers who seem to be prancing us. The active zones are much more accurate than Nest. The pro and con is that the cameras are battery powered, so you either need an additional charger and spare batteries, or you need to take down a camera in order to charge the battery. Looks like a sole panel will be available, but then you have to buy lots of additional accessories, in order to have a maintenance free system. Finally, you can install a SD card in the base station to keep recordings. Before you buy the biggest card to hold all the 4K videos, like I did, the largest supported card is 32Gb.

Don't buy
by Scott H. (1 out of 5 stars)
April 3, 2019

The video quality is not even 720p. I called the arlo support and they went through all of the steps to see if my internet was the issue, the distance from the modem, software updates, etc. However, the issue has not been resolved. We had a prowler come on to our property but we were unable to identify him by his face, as you can see on the photo, That was the reason why we bought the product and it failed.

NOT backwards compatible with existing base stations
by christine m. (1 out of 5 stars)
March 27, 2019

The previous cameras were all compatible with the older base stations. The new Ultra model is not. I had bought just the camera as an add on and was surprised to find that if I wanted to use it I'd have to purchase a new base station-- NOT something I wanted to do. Very disappointed that Arlo deviated from past practice with this new camera.

Activity zones don't work!!!
by Truth Seeker (2 out of 5 stars)
May 13, 2019

We're having lots of trouble with the Arlo Smart feature, which powers the camera's activity zones. The software is supposed to let you set up activity zones that limit pestering notifications in areas you'd like to ignore (street traffic, blowing branches, etc. By design, the camera will still turn on and record in the entire field of view, even outside of your defined zone. We end up with 50 or so videos every day of cars passing by and our battery life on the cameras lasts only a few days. My understanding is that the system is designed to only limit notifications, not the actual cameras turning on and recording. So your batteries and bandwidth are drained. This is a terrible design feature and would be enough to steer your purchase away as we have severe regrets at this frustrating point.

Welcome to the Family!

We depend on these for keeping an eye on things. We are in the country and whether it's a package or a mischievous raccoon or opossum, we want to know what's going on. With the addition now of the solar panel, we will be making fewer ladder trips.

A non starter as an upgrade
by ranmo (1 out of 5 stars)
September 2, 2019

Previous versions (original, pro and pro2) worked well and were easy to install and use. I bought this as an upgrade to my existing system. Removing cameras from the old system as preparation for installing the upgrade was easy. However the smart hub won't sync with the cameras or with my new ultra cameras. The old cameras won't sync to the old hub either now. They blink as if they have been synced but don't appear in the app or on my.arlo. So I am basically left with cameras that can't be attached to either system.
