I bought the DJI Action Cam sight unseen when I saw that it was released. I am plesantly supprised on the quality of the video, the great addition of the rocksteady stabilization, and the front screen. I love it and the camera is great. Buy this now for your walking around footage, vacation camera, or just to throw in your bag. I love it. Will proably get some of the availible filters for it too. The only con is it didnt come out like 5 years ago to dethrone GoPro awhile ago. Checkout youtube for plenty of comparision shots on this and the GoPro Hero 7 Black.

Hardware issue with Front LCD screen

I purchased this action cam specifically for the new feature of a front LCD camera display. The day before it arrived i saw review videos and posts pointing out a huge problem when water touches the screen. This is supposed to be a waterproof camera -and therefore designed so it can be fully submerged if desired for underwater video.

To run a test myself, right after i got it, i put a drop of water on the front LCD screen, hit record, after 2 minutes there was a mark on the screen that looks like a big thumbprint. Wiped off the droplet of water, repackaged, and started the return process for a full refund. I can easily imagine what the screen would look like if underwater. I live in the Pacific Northwest were it frequently rains. Simply getting some raindrops on it will affect the front screen. Bummed because everything else about the camera sounds great.

Incidentally, the mark remained on the unit long after i shut it off. From other posts it appears it isn't permanent but definitely wrecks the video when you want to use the front screen to compose shots.

New King of Action Cameras �

New king in action cameras. Bought mine straight from DJI I thought it would be backed up and delayed otherwise I would have bought it on Amazon. Image quality is good. Sharp clear good white balancing exposure saturation nice color profiles HDR mode Cinelike mode. Image stabilization is phenomenal! Better than Hypersmooth.

Sound quality is also good. Could use settings though like what GoPro has to boost gain. It could be a little louder. Not tinny or hollow. I'm waiting for the overpriced external mic adapter so I can test it out on this. Hope it works with this.

Menu is easy to navigate lots of settings on hand without having to dive deep into the menu. Like how it turns on and off quicker than most. Love the front screen the quick switch quick access button.

The battery / door is sweet. Why didn't anyone else think of it before. It locks into place has a lock and quick release button lever. Touchscreen is good maybe could use a tiny bit of tweaking but pretty good.

I don't like having to use the invasive app. You kinda have to use it to activate it or you get the activate camera notice every time you turn it on. There is already an update for this. Dig deep into the settings because you are sending information to DJI unless you turn it off.

The attachment mounts are different and work smoothly no wiggle seems secure. The instruction manual is useless. Doesn't tell you anything about operation just guidelines and warnings in different languages but a lot is explained on the camera.

This is my new favorite action camera. GoPro has some serious competion. I thought they would remain king bc of their Hypersmooth IS but this is even better and it comes in $50 cheaper. I told you GoPro. Your new pricepoint is $300. Solid build solid performance. The Osmo Action is a winner.

Update: Just got the 3.5mm audio adapter and it does not work. Works fine on the Osmo Pocket. Don't know if this needs a separate adapter unique to this camera or if it just doesn't have external microphone capabilities.

Dead right out of the box

The camera could be turned on. But will not let me connect successful and it had wasted almost at least an hour of my time. It was very frustrating. I was wondering what could be wrong and so I went on Youtube and from there I was sure this unit is faulty.

When initial turn on, it will request user for the language and then to set up the date/time. This unit came without these options but I did a reset and restarted the camera. This time the language portion came up but then it went straight into the activation setting. It had skipped the time/date adjusting part. Still I was, well fine, let's go on. But when I tried to connect via bluetooth, it could not get connect no matter how many times I tried. Come on DJI.

Osmo Action Cam 4K Unstable Blue Tooth/WiFi Activation & Stuck Battery Door

So my S Note 9 has WiFi & Blue Tooth Enabled. Tried 4 times powering everything on/off to do DJI activation/registration process via cell phone installed phone DJI Mimo app. Little worked. The Osmo battery door would not release to power off since the power on/off button would not toggle either. Osmo Action Camera just stayed on. My activation/device connection would never register. Very complicated user interface and if you cannot connect your cell phone running the DJI Osmo Action Cam app & register, then Osmo is dead in the water, unusable.

Rocksteady front facing lcd

Dji always does it right the rock steady is far superior to what is out there from other brands. Easy to use love the front facing lcd excellent product. Check out majority of reviews out there on YouTube with direct comparison to GoPro hero7

Extremely satisfied!!! Video quality is as good as GoPro 7 black if not better, with HDR video function, it's a beast. Audio is way better than I expected. Front color LCD screen is a killer to GoPro 7 black.

DJI did it again with this one. They own the drone market and will soon own the action cam business. I've enjoyed GoPro products for a while now but I'm sold on the Osmo Action Cam. Stabilization is excellent and so is the video quality (with sufficient light) and its all packed into a body even smaller than the latest GoPro Hero!

I researched long and hard before purchasing the OSMO and have not looked back. The fun factor, the creative possibilities, all in one solidly built unit makes this a great buy. I paired it with the iSteady Pro gimbal and couldn't be more pleased. Stabilization on the Z-axis is still lacking but I am getting better at compensating. Now I notice any hand-held footage even in professional production...LOL.

The photos and video are razor sharp and pleasing to the eye. Only a couple of months in, but I highly recommend.

This camera is absolutely incredible! I was thinking of getting the GoPro but after seeing a review on YouTube I decided to give the Osmo Action a try. I have to say you won't be disappointed. The colors are crisp and full of detail.
