TERRIBLE...IPAD FELL OUT for NO REASONby C'est la vie (1 out of 5 stars)
October 30, 2015
UPDATE (2 days after starting use).......I was just sitting in my chair and shifted my ipad to a place I could see it better, just a small shifting moving it about 1 inch and the ipad just FELL OUT OF THE CASE! Moments earlier I was carrying this case over the hardwood floor, with the case open and I am HORRIFIED this could have happened over the hardwood. I was so lucky I was in an upholstered chair and only sliding the entire thing 1 inch so no damage was done. I will be contacting Targus tomorrow as this is truly defective and I want a refund/replacement from them. DO NOT BUY...there is no reason my ipad should have fallen out of the case.
Original Review:
I waffled back and forth after reading the reviews on this product, but I needed a new case and I like the design on this one how it folded back and was held by a little tab and that it had a place to put a stylus. I want to like it but I don't. First of all, I ordered white. It is not white, it is more like an off white that turned yellowish with age. Also, there are faded dark marks on the back, but the product was packaged well, leading me to believe it is new, even though because of these marks and the cutouts (read down at the end of the review), it look like a used product. Secondly, like others stated, my ipad doesn't tightly snap in and the corners that it snaps into are of a strange material that doesn't even look new. One corner looks like it has teeth marks in it. Finally the cutouts for the speakers, headphones, power button and volume button are poorly done. Everything lines up but it is not smooth, kind of sharp where the cutouts are and the cutouts kind of look like someone took a razor blade and cut them out, they are not straight and even like the would look from a machine. I attribute this to the material that it underneath, but just the same I would not expect quality like this from Targus. I am truly disappointed and I want to like it but I will go back to my aging case I bought on 90% clearance at Target for .99 cents which is much much higher quality than this one. So disappointed.
It works!

I was surprised. For the price I though maybe was a cheap case but nope. The quality is above average in my opinion. It is white so it is easy to get dirty, mine seems like a bone or antique white. The stitches do make it look great. Magnetic wake up feature.
The front cover is a flap that can be folded back in order to raise the ipad. It has two level, to say it like that, the low level works great. However the other level, (with the ipad almost vertically standing) is so weak it won't stay stand, much less if you touch it. Another thing is the way you press to fit it in place. It is a big hard to get it right at first buy it gets easier the more times you do it. Also I doppred my ipad with the case a couple of times above 3 feet a it did protect my ipad, however, the ipad would come off place so I would had to fit it back into place.I like it over all. Should of bought the black one because of the white stitching!

I bought this product because I had over the years ordered this cover a couple of times before. I loved the item and they gave out after 2 years of normal daily use - an acceptable period. Unfortunately, the item that was sent to me starting falling apart within a week of using it. The color paint starting coming off in flakes and the cover seemed to be warped - it never sat on the table without rocking. I finally tired having to vacuum whatever surface I was working on to remove the chipped paint and tired of the irregular surface of the cover. I removed and tossed it. Thoroughly disappointed that the quality of the product was so bad and that it was sold to me by the vendor company.
A slim case for those who don't abuse their $700 iPad

First, it must be said that this is a minimalist case that is not designed for "throw against the wall" protection. Some knock this case for that reason, but you can't have a case as light and slim as this and get a high-protection factor. It just can't be both ways.
Targus does not state that this is an OtterBox. Some also fret that the apple logo is exposed on the back. Well, it does show this in the advertisement pictures, and is not a flaw. It is a design element. I guess some folks carry their iPad in a sack of rock-chips and toss it into the bed of their pick-up trucks. Not me and that is why this review is favorable. That being said, here is my review:
The case is attractive, and slim. The iPad clips into a hard plastic back with a reasonable amount of certainty. I do wish it "clicked" in better, but it has not fallen out. Once the iPad is installed, the cover closes without any physical retention other than a magnetic catch. There is a small amount of play in the cover that can occasionally wake your iPad unintentionally. (it does not happen on mine, but has once on my wife's model). The outer "fabric" is stylish and has proven relatively durable. I have only had it a short while, but it looks brand new at this point. My previous case got a nick in the synthetic cover in the first week of ownership, so I was glad that the Targus has held up. I don't fret over the openings for the speaker and ports. They line up well and do not shift. Also the camera is unobstructed. My previous case had a silicon back and would obscure the camera.
As far as criticisms, I won't be critical of things that the case was not designed for. Rather, I will look at some elements that were not executed properly. For one, the lid should close more surely. I also feel the back should clip in more securely as well. Other than that, I can't complain!
I do like the Skech Porter case as well and will pick one up as soon as they get one available for the new iPad. I was told mid-late april and I am waiting for the email! I will update the review at that time as a comparo.
Overall:
Light, slim, attractive, well-made case for light-duty users. I would buy again!
Nice slim case for and iPad 4

I bought this to replace the thicker Targus Versavu iPad case so I could trim down the overall bulk to make it easier to carry with my other equipment. The Targus Versavu was great and added additional protection to my iPad for years while providing me with a nice rotating stand but the added size the case added to the iPad started to take it's toll when carried in my bag with my laptop and accessories.
This slim case works perfect as a replacement by still adding security to the iPad while keeping the overall weight and size trimmed down making it easier to carry around and get in and out of my bags. There's no adjusting the stand on this like with the Versavu but this stand still allows you to keep the iPad upright for direct reading or to lay on it's back with a slight incline by folding back and locking into position on the backside.
Beautiful and Practical!! *Edit Big Mistake*

Best ipad cover i have bought so far and i can say i jhave bought quite a few now. Wish i had bought this cover from the first cover i have bought. Money well spent. Love the colour and the feel of the material. Very easy to fit in as described and the sleep function works well. Reconmend it.
Edit
As much as i love this cover, i must warn ipad owners with toddlers (age 1 - 6), please do not get this cover. Its not good when you have kids who smash the ipad on hard floors when fighting over the ipad or just plain angry when a game is not going their way. For the first time since i have had ipads since 2010, my ipad screen is shattered and my husband's own has a sratch on it. This case is not very smug and the edges do not hold in the ipad as well as i thought initially especially when you have kids using your ipad.
To be fair and objective, its still a great ipad case, met my need of been sleek, slim and stlyish, but just not wise and practical for me as a mum with 3 kids who struggle to use the ipad with themselves. I have to spend $125 to replace the ipad screen now. Not a happy mum!
Great Case

I bought this for use with the new iPad. It works perfectly, putting the iPad to sleep when the lid is closed and offering nice protection to the iPad. I know that some people were having problems with this, but mine works perfectly. A friend bought one of these from best buy and it doesn't put the iPad to sleep when the cover is closed, but Targus said they were working on it, and might have fixed the ones in production now.
The front flap folds down to make a good low profile reading platform, or folds over to hook into a clasp for a higher profile, or for standing upright. The stiffer cover (and the support hook) make this more stable/better than the Apple cover for the iPad. I've had an iPad 1 and and iPad 2 as well, and I never really stood the iPad up much, as the cases I had weren't very stable. Since I got this case, I've been doing that a lot more as I feel like I can trust it to not fall over.
For my iPad 2, I used the Apple cover, with a thin shell on the back. It was noticeably slimmer than this case, but this case offers more protection and it's not really that much thicker. But, compared to other cases, it's slim and seems to offer the same protection until you get into things like the Otterboxes.
It doesn't weigh that much, but I find that if i'm playing Tilt To Live, where I have to flip the iPad around a lot, I notice the weight. If I intend to play for a bit, I'll pop the iPad out of the case which is trivial to do. For all other uses, I leave it in the case. And since it stands better, there are some times with my iPad 2 I'd remove the magnetic cover, where with this case, I just stand it up and let it sit.
It also has a holder for a stylus, but I don't have one (yet), but it's nice to know that I'd have a place to store it, which is one of the reasons I don't have one currently.
Happy with this case

First impressions:
First time iPad owner. I ordered this case from Amazon on April 7, 2012, for my iPad3. They seem to have fixed the issues caused by Apple moving the location of the magnets on version 3 of the iPad.
I like this case much better than the ones that wrap around the edge of the screen, covering the bezel. And at the same time it is more protective than Apple's Smart Cover. The fabric cover is nicer, in my opinion, than a cheap plastic or fake leather, and lighter than real leather.
What I don't like: 1) It does add a little weight. The front is fabric but the back is a heavier plastic. 2) It props the iPad up in landscape mode, but not portrait. This isn't a big deal, and it's obvious from the promo pictures when I look back at them, but it would be convenient sometimes to have it sitting upright in portrait mode.
The iPad in this folio cover fits perfectly into a neoprene Roo Case sleeve. It may be overkill, but I am carrying it that way for extra protection and to keep it clean.

July 2012:
After using this case for a few months, it no longer stays in the upright position. The iPad and case just fall over backwards -- somehow the balance is off. Except for that it is ok. I wrote to customer service, but in order to exchange it I would have to pay for shipping, and my iPad would be without a case during that time. Kind of annoying, particularly since I paid a MUCH higher price for this item than it is selling for now. I'll probably just keep it, since I usually view the iPad while holding it rather than using the case to prop it up, but I thought I'd edit the review. Downgrading from 4 to 2 stars.
Disappointed that it doesn't fit, not secure around the corners.

This does not fit my iPad 3at all. The corners don't line up and it it constantly slipping out of the case with the slightest touch.
None of the four corners fully secures at all. One will snap most of the way down and the others all sit at a different height level.
I really hate typing this review. Targus has been my go to case for my iPadMini. I use my mini pretty much all day and can say with confidence that I can manhandle, toss, drop and open my case hundreds of times a day, rotating between different views the whole time. It hasn't let me down. I've had my mini for at least three years and only replaced the case once. I tend to hold my two index fingers up along the top and I wore away the fabric. That is my only issue with the rotating mini case.
I meant to by the rotating case for my ipad3, but got the slim on accident. That's no ones fault but mine. The fact that it just doesn't fit my iPad was disappointing.
I am ordering a rotating case for my iPad now. I really hope it works as well as the minis model
Nice Slim Case

I bought this case for the basic protection of my new iPad 3. This is in no way a heavy dude case made for long drops and really hard hits. If you would like something like that, I suggest something along the lines of the OtterBox Defender, which is much bulkier.
The case overall looks nice, and is slim in my opinion. The iPad snaps into a hard plastic type case that holds the rim of the iPad. 3 out of the 4 clips look to be holding on well to the iPad, while the third seems like it doesn't have the strangest grip of the corner, but the iPad is pretty snug and fits well and doesn't give any slack when trying to pull on it.
All the holes lines up well with the iPad 3, no connectors are obstructed or speaker partially blocked, all seem perfectly aligned.
Some people have complaints about the magnet not locking the iPad when the cover is shut, which I have not had a problem with at all. I've only had this case for about a month now and the cover still looks brand new practically.
Overall this is a great case for casual use of the iPad and would recommend it to any friends that get it too. I will eventually be getting a stronger case for more heavy duty protection for time when I know I'll need it, but i'll be keeping it in this slim Targus case for the other 99% of the time.
