A good short (and once-lost) Seuss story!by ToonXpert87 (5 out of 5 stars)

Making up your mind about things, or even pets, ain't always easy! Just ask the brother and sister duo in the once-lost Seuss story What Pet Should I Get?. It wasn't until 2015 that this story finally surfaced to the general public, almost 25 years after Dr. Seuss passed on! This book started out tall and expensive in 2015, like $20 or more, and now in 2019, it's as tall as a Beginner Book and under $7 each when I discovered it this way! The seller I got this from let me have 2 for under $7.50 altogether, one for my nephew Chase for my mother to read to him, and the other for my niece Hayley to read on her own! Picking pets is never easy, nor is making up your mind about it. Add this rare Seussian classic to your book libraries today!
Wonderful wonderful book!

Wonderful wonderful book! When I was young, my grandmother gave me the 1st Dr. Seuss book--it had just been published.-and I fell in love with "And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street". Consequently, I have in my possession, all but 3 or 4 of his "big" books and many of the smaller "I Can Read" books. My children grew up on these books and now my grandchildren are reading them too--including my 15 year old grandson. When "What Pet Should I Get?" arrived, they all gathered around and we read it together and tried to guess the pet. I hope that more will be found and published! And although I have collected articles about him over the years, the last 8 pages of the book are a wonderful glimpse into the life of a very special man and author!
Get it from the library and read it once

This book is a big disappointment. I'm a huge Dr. Seuss fan. Good messages, great wordplay. That said, this book has neither. Its very short, and is not all that interesting. Save your money. Take it out of the library, read it once. That's all you need. Get If I ran The Circus. I have read that book a hundred times.

My daughter is infatuated with this book. I read a neg review and I disagree, this might not be Dr. Seuss' best work BUT as an adult I enjoy reading it to my kids. I think it's a great book!
Choices, Choices

This is the famously posthumous Seuss discovery, reconstructed by his widow and last editor at Random House. It's not top-drawer Seuss, which may be why he buried it beneath another, simpler, wackier project: "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." But it surely has its delights. For adults, one of those bonuses is a brief description of Ted Geisel's working methods, his art, and the history of this book's reconstruction.
Cute story!!

Be prepared that this book leaves you hanging at the end! You never find out what animal they end up getting but it allows for kids to speculate. I read it for Read Across America at school and it's nice to poll the students to see what pet they think the kids in the story got.
A Big Hit for a young boy whose turtle had just died

I bought this for a friend's son whose turtle or goldfish had just died -- yeah, the goldfish I think. Doesn't matter; he had to make a choice and with Prime I was able to get the book to him before he had made his decision. A Big Hit!!
A bit of a disappointment. (Spoiler alert)

The book leaves you at the end not knowing what pet the children chose. And while I get that they want you to use your imagination, my grandchildren (and I admit I too...LOL) were left feeling at loose ends. Also...it is not a long story and IMHO not worth the $$ I spent on it.
True Dr. Seuss fashion

As a Dr. Seuss fan family, my son was excited to receive this book for Christmas. He has read this book repeatedly and out loud to anyone that will listen. True Dr. Seuss fashion, this book does not disappoint.
Seuss that Ted Geisel never got to edit or perfect. That said

As other reviews have pointed out, this is a Dr. Seuss that Ted Geisel never got to edit or perfect. That said, my two year grandson enjoyed it, as did his 3 1/2 year old brother and 5 year old sister. Their opinions weigh more than even a Houston Chronicle reviewer.
