Great for parties

I bought this book because I have never even heard of jelly shots before and I was curious as to what they were like. Well, if you aren't careful, they can be lethal. Each recipe is a mix of different flavors and liquors layered together to produce lovely little squares of potentially potent liquor. They do not taste boozey, and that is where the danger lies. Too many shots and suddenly you find yourself drunk. Fun to make and impressive to serve. A warning though: liquor is expensive. Many of these recipes require expensive and exotic liqueurs, so be prepared to do some damage to your wallet.

Good book

I bought this book for my yearly blow out after reading the great reviews. I agree w/ the reviews this is a good book. The book rates each recipe easy, intermediate, or advanced & give good instructions on how to make them. Each recipe is easy just a few are a little more time consuming but worth it. The beginning of the book they break down each shot into categories like tropical, Retro, dessert etc. And towards the end of the book give alcohol free recipes. The only thing that threw me off was that all the recipes are for old school or traditional cocktail such as Pink squirrel, Old fashioned, PiƱa Colada, Fuzzy Naval, Strawberry Daiquiri etc...& I assumed it would be crazy never thought of jelly shot but much to my surprise these are REALY GOOD. You think of these names they sound lame but it is quite the opposite. Get this book you will be pleasantly surprised. I even had Auntie Maria who is 80 ask me for another vodka pink lemonade. Lol. Go Auntie. So many choices in here I want to have another party just so i can give everyone a recipe to make and bring. Enjoy

I have never had more fun! I had to get two!

I can't cook. I can barely boil and I never did jello shots as a teen, I mean college student :-) This has been a hit through the holidays! I brought them to Christmas and New Years and they were easy and fun! I had to buy another book for my sister in law so we could keep the tradition! One tip. Some recipes call for very little of certain liquors, a lot of 60ml's. I find that that little bottles that are 50ml's are enough - so if your not sure if you'd use the liquor again get those. The best part about this book is all the advice at the start on how to do molds and cuts is really great!

Great book. I have tried probably 85% of the recipes, some I like, some I don't, but that's due to personal taste. All have come out great! You get upscale looking jello shots :) If you place the plates on a bed of ice, they will stay solid out of the fridge for quite awhile.

perfect for creative entertaining

If you love to entertain, the recipes in this book are perfect. Tasty, boozy, and freaking cute- they are a fun conversation topic as well. I made the Cosmopolitan shots for my sister's bachelorette party and they were a huge hit.

The only snag i have run into so far is adapting the recipes for vegetarians. The book has a page on 'how to substitute agar agar', but I tried this method twice according to directions, and both ended up grainy, slimy, and shapeless.

That said, all the shots made using gelatin have set up perfectly and are extremely user-friendly. They all (except for the agar agar ones) turned out just like the photos- when is the last time you had that experience with a cookbook?

Anyway, if you are looking for something fun and different for your next party, that doesn't require too much work, this is perfect!

Fun new way to make Jell-o shots
by Kindle Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

I've been making your standard Jell-o shots for years and I'm known as the one that brings them to the party. When I saw this book it really excited me as a new way to step up an old favorite. It's also a great way to use up some old bottles of booze you have sitting in your cabinet that only have a little bit left. Plus you can introduce yourself to some newer cocktails in a way that is very user friendly. I've made probably about 3/4 of the recipes in this book thus far and I haven't really found one that has been a complete dud. The favorites have been the classic fruity cocktails like the strawberry daiquiri and the cosmopolitan with one dud being the lemon drop due to it's lack of excitement. For the most part these taste just like the cocktails they're named after and the layered jelly shots are really pretty to look at-making people think you've spent more time then you have. Another bonus is that unlike your standard Jell-o shots which got watery after being out of the refrigerator for more than ten minutes these will stay sold after hours of sitting on the shelf. I've even chilled unused ones and had them again the next day which is unheard of with Jell-o. This book is a must have for those that love novelty entertaining.

A new discovery for me - eye candy for jello
by schericane (5 out of 5 stars)

I have an older book on jello recipes which I keep in hopes of eventually making something from it, but many of the recipes have ingredients that are fatty or out of favor. The recipes in Jelly Shot Test Kitchen remind me of the gastronomy books I've noticed recently. It's like jelling for the New Age! I like the idea of being able to create and present something new and unique at a luncheon or get-together, especially something with a wow factor.

A Must-Have for Every Hostess
by Sela (5 out of 5 stars)

Love this book!! So far I have only tried a few recipes but they have all been great. They taste just like the drinks. Great for Superbowl, birthdays, etc.

The directions are simple and easy to follow, I have not tried any of the tecniques yet, but feel confident that I could pull them off.

Keep in mind these are "jelly" shots, not "jell-o" so the consistancy is different, not as "goopy" they are much more firm.

Also, my guests and I have determined that the vodka based recipes are best, the ones with whiskey can be a bit strong (but maybe thats what you want?), not always, I think it also depends on what other ingredients are in the recipe to distract from the whiskey flavor. Who wants to eat their whiskey?

I suggest trying the Vodka Pink Lemonade as your first recipe, its very easy and a good introduction into the world of jelly shots, not to mention delicious.

All in all, lots of fun and very original

Sinfully Decadent!
by Tamika Humphries-Noelle (5 out of 5 stars)

I have made a few jelly shots from the authors blog and loved them. When I heard she was going to write a book, I quickly pre-ordered it. In fact I was so excited that I ordered 2 copies on accident!

I have successfully created 3 different recipes from this book. The favorite amongst my friends so far has been the White & Dark Chocolate layered shot (I cannot remember the name of the recipe off hand). In fact they have loved it so much that I had to turn around and make another batch that same night to send home with a friend the next day.

My personal favorite has been the Saketini recipe. I love sake and these shots do not disappoint!

Something to note is that you do not need fancy molds in order for you and your friends to enjoy these shots. The molds are just for decoration and fun.

Grown-up Jelly Shots
by Tino (5 out of 5 stars)

At some point, we all outgrow our hazy college days of consuming poorly made, overly boozy Jell-O shots. But as someone who enjoys "eating" their booze, where do you go from there? Well, you graduate to Jelled Cocktails (*pinkies raised).

Having stumbled upon the website I was super excited for the book to be released and ordered it immediately. I have since tried several of the recipes (and have even crafted a few of my own) and they have each turned out flawlessly. The book is filled with brilliant pictures and the recipes are easy to comprehend and execute. I like that each recipe is rated in terms of difficulty, so you might want to tackle an easier one before you decide to get all fancy with tiered Jelly shots and the like (though they do also provide excellent instruction on how to create dazzling Jelly shots).

Whip up a batch of these babies for your next party - not only will your guests be impressed but you won't have to play bartender all night.
