a storybook for grown-upsby C. M. (5 out of 5 stars)

We're Wes Anderson fans around here- not at the level where we own every movie he's made in every format, etc. but we eagerly await every film he creates and we have our favorites (I've seen Rushmore more times than I care to admit). This book is like a beautiful, creative, inspiring story book for grown ups- it's full of images and interviews on every film that Wes Anderson has directed- storyboards, frames and screenshots from the films, screenshots from other films that inspired Anderson, plus tons of ephemera from all of the films. Every page is a wonderland- so much to look at and discover. I spent an hour just pouring over the Moonrise Kingdom section of the book when we first opened it- not reading a single word, just studying the images. And every time I open the book, I find myself getting happily lost inside of it, and learning all these new and amazing things about all of Anderson's work.
I can't recommend this enough. If you enjoy the whimsical worlds that Anderson creates, this book is more of the same. Wonderful.
An amazing value!

This collection brings together interviews, photos, and storyboards from many of Wes Anderson's films, and will be a source of joy and wonder for anyone with an interest in his work. It is probably the pound-for-pound king of coffee table books for anyone under 30, provided that they enjoy dysfunctional or fragmented families that are drawn together in times of crisis.
I am very happy with the quality of the binding and heft of the cover, and am confident that my copy will stand up to lots of use. The pictures are wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading more about Wes' vision for some of my favorite films. The production stills for Fantastic Mr. Fox are particularly stunning, but the on-set photos from The Royal Tenenbaums and The Life Aquatic really give you a sense of the camaraderie between the actors.
If you or someone you know are a Wes Anderson fan, this should be on the top of your list for the next gift-giving occasion.
The quintessential book for Wes Anderson fans

I don't buy many "coffee table" books, but I had read reviews of this one and put it on my must-have list. I've read and admired Matt Zoller Seitz' reviews for years, and I've been a hard-core Wes Anderson fan since Rushmore, anxiously awaiting each new masterpiece.
Anderson doesn't release many films....this book shows you why. The level of craftsmanship and detail put into each production can only be accomplished with many months of time and effort. The settings, atmosphere, camera angles, lighting, and overall ambiance are just as important as the screenplay and the casting. This book meticulously plots the steps involved in each production. My only regret is that the book was released before The Grand Budapest Hotel; that would have made for an interesting chapter. Still, this book will make a much-perused volume in the library of any Anderson aficionado or film buff.
A Coffee Table must have for Wes Anderson fans

I first noticed this book at a library while sitting to wait for a local theater production of a play about Lizzie Borden. The book was staring me in the face as if to say, "You know you want to pick me up and look through me." Which I did. Instantly I was transported back to each and every movie embraced in this collected works of stories, photos, and interviews with Wes and other cast. The very nature of his movies was very well represented in the mix match artwork.
I feel Mr. Anderson would have been proud of how I came across this book and had fun representing that in his very over the top style as a side story in a major movie in the future.

Cannot adequately review this spectacular film book. Although it is about Wes Anderson's seven films from "Bottle Rocket" through to "Moonrise Kingdom" there is so much more in this extraordinary publication. Essays and interviews by Mark Zoller Seitz, amazing illustrations by Max Dalton and endless fascinating stills from the films plus a potpourri of relevant items from old films, books, magazines, catalogs and advertisements that will have you intrigued and wanting to keep returning again and again to marvel at all this content. You don't have to be a Wes Anderson fan or to have seen all his films to love this beautifully designed book. A remarkable work but one of those books you have to have to fully appreciate its merits. A publishing gem from Abrams and priced very reasonably.
A fantastic gift for anyone that adores Wes Anderson

My Dad nearly pees his pants with laughter when he watches Wes Anderson films. Then he proceeds to quote them for the next month whenever I talk to him on the phone.
If you have anyone in your life like this, the book will make an excellent gift. While I like Wes Anderson, I can't claim that I would scream like a 12 year old at a Justin Bieber concert were I given this gift. I only have the memories of my 55 year-old father performing that same maneuver when presented with this masterpiece.
A Full-Immersion Experience or a Fun Read Coffee Table Book

Got this from the library a couple of times & finally bought my own copy when I was on a Wes Anderson film-watching spree. The first time I got it from the library, I was stunned by how large it is. It really is a great coffee table book, but not one that should just sit there looking pretty. It's a cool book to page through in moments of time or fully immerse yourself in if you're interesting in making films.

Seitz has put together a winning combination of material and interviews for fans of Anderson. There are many stills and behind the scenes photos, but what really sets this book apart is the information included. Wes Anderson hasn't completed as many films as, say Kurosawa, so this book is more centered on actual content and not a broad cross section of dozens of films.
That being said, it's still chock full of glorious photos. I bought as a gift for part of my partner's Christmas present and she loved it. I highly recommend this for any Wes Anderson fan.
Also note: I got it straight from Amazon for $24 even. Urban Outfitters is also selling it for the full MSRP $34.99. Barnes and Nobel still have some, so don't pay the huge markup from third parties if you can avoid it.

I was thrilled when I found this book since my boyfriend is a long-time Wes Anderson fan. The book is simply beautiful and very well thought-out. It includes tons of amazing photos from on-set along with interviews and other interesting tid-bits. It was also much bigger than I expected and the hardcover makes it a nice collector's item. Something to be noted: The Grand Budapest Hotel is not included in this book because it has one of its own by the same author. I intend on purchasing that book in the future as well. My boyfriend loved the book and is still reading through it. When I first got the book it was damaged on the corners of the spine (like it had been dropped) but Amazon was great about exchanging it and I had a new book in perfect condition in just two days. Very happy with this book and Amazon.

This was purchased for my son a 21 year old burgeoning film director/producer and he really loved it and read it from cover to cover. Lots of in depth descriptions and of course th photographs were stellar. much of the information was unknown and assisted in understanding the choices in colors and even shapes of the set dressing/design of the movies. Very interesting. It was a birthday gift and as some of you know buying gifts for your older boys is a challenge so I was very pleased at its reception.
