    Best Way to Learn Guitar
by JMK (5 out of 5 stars)
    March 30, 2016

Can't believe this little gem. I ordered one for my wife sort of as a joke but after a week she was strumming songs on the guitar without the Chordbuddy. Last Sunday night, five weeks later, we had a picking at our church and she played along with us for two hours.

Now a couple of things, l have played guitar professionally for years and I was able to show her some shortcuts and "tricks". She has learned to move between most chords quickly and without difficulty. I have her using a capo for songs in the key of C as she has some trouble holding F chord but she will master that.

Also, the instruction materials that come with the system are great. She faithfully practiced for at least an hour every night sore fingers and all but after five weeks I can't believe what she has accomplished.

I don't believe that just anyone could do what she's done in five weeks because she was driven to play. I have a small recording studio and she plays piano for our recording sessions which helps her as she understands cord progression and structure.

But... If you have wanted to learn to strum a guitar using proper chords to play most any songs, don't hesitate to get the Chordbuddy. It is beyond doubt the best way to learn to play a guitar I've ever seen!

Difficult if not impossible to get the ChordBuddy to stay in place

I was so excited about the ChordBuddy when ordering it as I'm a beginner guitar student in my 50's but after receiving the product I'm super disappointed. I have a standard Jasmine S-35 guitar and tried countless times in 3 days to securely fasten the ChordBuddy to the neck of my guitar but time after time it shifted making my strings buzz or sound flat. When it stayed in place for less than a minute I enjoyed using it but I had to send it back.

I received it in a timely manner but was sad to find out it would not fit our guitar. Total waste of money. Had purchased and put up for my husbands Christmas gift and unable to return for refund or exchange due to time limits for returns

Not What I Had Hoped For
by Jim (2 out of 5 stars)

I gave this every possible opportunity and just cannot make it work. I would love to see how those who are happy use theirs.

Looking at it and other guitars at the guitar shop, it might be that the action on my guitar is a bit too high for this device. However, I haven't tried it so I don't know if it would work better on a different guitar.

Some of the little rubber pads don't lift high enough to clear the strings, the arms seem to bend easily and may not hit where they should, the pads hit between the frets and don't push down hard enough. The cheapness of the plastic might be the culprit. I might think it's me if there weren't so many reviews that agree.

It's probably a good idea that was ruined in poor quality offshore manufacturing. Maybe if it were just a little higher quality it might work. The table of contents in the guide just pretends it works, a trouble shooting section would be nice.

I'm ready to go back to being frustrated by the guitar and leave out the added frustration of this device.

Should be one star, but maybe it's a good idea poorly executed, so it gets two.

    Don't waste your money

Received this earlier this month and I was eager to attach and start rocking.

First the good, great concept, books and dvd are clear and informative.

Now the bad. The chord buddy simply doesn't work. 10 cents worth of plastic and it feels like it. I have spent ages attaching it to my acoustic guitar and it still doesn't feel like it fits right. I followed all the written instructions and the YouTube videos from the company and others and it just doesn't work as advertised. It's fine for playing each chord once but the tabs don't lift after the first run through. I tried tightening it, loosening it, moving it, the only thing I haven't tried is throwing it against the wall (and believe me I have wanted to). I have removed the tabs and put them back to see if that makes any difference, nope. I also tried it on my semi-acoustic with the exact same results.

I contacted Perry's Music and they sent me the same information that I already had. I put the guitar down, walked away and then tried again to install it with the exact same results. It's been a couple of weeks now with multiple attempts at getting it to work with the exact same end result.

Like I said, great concept .........but poorly executed.

    Challenging Fit
by MidnightSunHomestead (2 out of 5 stars)

I had to return mine. I bought this specifically for the 38" Acoustic Guitar Starter Package Guitar, Gig Bag, Strap, Pick & DirectlyCheap(TM) Translucent Blue Medium Guitar Pick (PL-AG38-1) also purchased here on Amazon. This is a 6 string guitar, I am mentioning that so you will know if it is part of the problem or not. I have returned it because of a few different issues.
1: Product description fails to mention that the top of the neck of the guitar needs to be flat and not rounded. This is because in order to properly place the Guitar Buddy on the guitar, it needs to lay flat on the neck otherwise it will not attach properly. If the neck of the guitar is even just a little bit rounded off as was the one I purchased, it does not attach properly. Instead it leans and wont sit straight. This is problematic because when you press on the buttons of the Guitar Buddy when it leans, the feet don't contact the strings correctly if at all.
2: It also seems that the neck of the guitar I purchased was too wide for this to work. As I mentioned above, I purchased a 6 string guitar. I do not know for certain that this is the problem, but it just didn't seem wide enough to fit.

Overall, I love the idea, there is a DVD that comes in the packaging that shows you how to attach it, and so much more. I would have loved to be able to use this, but alas I shall have to learn this the good ol fashion way. Probably best anyhow.

I received an Oscar Schmidt guitar a couple years ago for Christmas. I have tinkered around but never learned to really play it. I was excited to receive the Chord Buddy. Unfortunately, it did not fit my guitar. I watched a you tube video on installation to make sure I was not doing something wrong, but it just doesn't fit. It will be returned and the guitar will be returned to the closet. Bummer.

The idea of this guitar learning system is great. Unfortunately the device doesn't fit as snug on my Acoustic as I had hoped. I wanted this product to help teach my kids with their small hands how to play.

If this review is helpful be sure to let me know!

    As seen on Shark Tank
by Clsact (4 out of 5 stars)
    April 11, 2013

This is a very nice item..I saw it on Shark Tank, I have small hands and always had issues in playing chords. This gadget is nice and the books included are nice. It SURE would be nice if they could add a chord or two, but for what it is, it works very well, once seated properly. The books are nice, BUT, for me, NOT a country music enthusiast, the chord book is VERY limited In songs that I would play....only about three, actually. BUT, it's good for practicing. I did email them about, 1. Adding more chords and 2. printing a book with classic/contemporary rock songs. They responding very quickly telling me that both were in the thinking/working process. I would recommend this item for beginners, or for people who have limited movement in their fingers, or small hands, like me. It's fun. No secrets here, it works as described.
