Product Description
Remove the disposable exterior box to reveal the black-and-red pyramid-shaped Sith case. It appears innocuous at first. The Sith have existed in the galaxy for centuries, lurking, waiting for their chance to seize control. As various Sith Lords emerged and rose to power, they recorded their thoughts, exploits, and plots for Sith control of the galaxy. When they fell, their knowledge vanished with them forever. Or so it seemed. . . .
Over the years, these writings were passed among numerous Sith and Jedi, who added their comments to the pages. In his quest for domination, Darth Sidious tracked down what remained of five pivotal Sith texts written by his most powerful predecessors. Then, drawing on the knowledge within the compiled pages, he wrote a sixth text—his own manifesto. Together, these documents, along with several collected objects associated with them, shed light on the philosophy, achievements, and failures of the Sith Order. For years, this collection remained hidden, existing as legend only. But now all who are tempted may unlock the Book of Sith and delve into the dark side. . . .
From the creators of The Jedi Path, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, Book of Sith reveals the mystery and madness of the dark side—while introducing new characters, history, as well as sinister insights into what it means to be a Sith Master.
Recovered dark side texts:
• A chronicle by Sorzus Syn of her encounters with Sith Purebloods, explorations in alchemy, and the foundations of the Sith Order.
• A war journal kept by Darth Malgus during the Great Galactic War, describing methods of war and the campaigns of the Sith army.
• A source book by Darth Bane that details the idea and the philosophy behind the Rule of Two as well as the training required for a Sith.
• An instructional manual by Mother Talzin exploring the Nightsisters’ use of the dark side and their role as dark side mercenaries in the galaxy.
• A scientific journal by Darth Plagueis with notes about his experimentation with and manipulation of the Force.
• Darth Sidious’s manifesto about the philosophy and political manipulation that marked his rise to power and established his Empire.
Those who added their comments: Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, Asajj Ventress, Yoda, Mace Windu, Quinlan Vos, and Luke Skywalker
Removable features: A scrap of a Sith burial shroud, a battle map from the Great Galactic War, a Sith lightsaber crystal, a Nightsister talisman, a diagram detailing Palpatine’s political strategies during the Clone Wars, and a propaganda poster for the Galactic Empire, and a note from Luke Skywalker

A Sith Holocronby AV IV (4 out of 5 stars)

I was very skeptical when I purchased this because of all the bad reviews that this thing got in relation broken components. I seemed to have gotten lucky in that mine appears to function correctly; I suggest that to all of those out there who receive a broken one attempt to do an exchange, because the Book of the Sith is that much cooler with the holocron to hide it in.
As for the content, I was pretty impressed and would rate this four out of five stars. Most of the entries offered new insights into the Star Wars Universe as well as the characters that wrote the individual sections, and I did enjoy the comments that were left by every new person that gained access to it. The design of the book and different writing styles the real author of the book (Daniel Wallace) used convinced me that I was actually reading something by five authors, each with his or her own set of philosophies.
There were a few things that I didn't care for as much which knocked the rating from a five to a four. The first is that I feel that some of these stories could have been a little longer. At times I really felt that I was getting into it only to find out that two or three pages were left. In particular, I think Sorzus Syn's was the most interesting and least explored in the Star Wars universe; a novel should be crafted for this being. Secondly, I enjoyed the comments a lot, and believed each of the personalities with whom they belonged. However, I am taken out of the story when I see that each of them wrote their names next to the comments. I feel that is something people wouldn't do. When I write or highlight comments in text books I get for school, I usually just leave a scrawl in the margin; my name is unimportant. It would have been far more effective to give the reader a separate sheet of paper with each of the samples of writing with Luke's deciphering of which person it belonged to, and then when the reader read the comments they would have to figure out whom it belonged to by comparing the handwriting.
For anyone who is really interested in Star Wars, this edition is a wonderful addition to your collection.

This vault is awesome, and I'm not even a star wars geek. I bought this for my husband who loves it. Not only is it awesome the way it opens up, but the contents are really cool, too. The book is very interactive with lots of things stuffed into it as well as the text itself -- things like pieces of cloth and extra maps and little notes and hand-outs to help tell the story. Those things really help with authentic feel of looking through a handbook full of secrets that has been built over time. It also has a plastic crystal shard in the tray beneath the book (red of course), were you to have a lightsaber into which to place it. There is a "compass" but it is not functional and really the cheesiest part of the whole set.
The item arrived very well packaged. The box fits the item securely, and the shipper then surrounded it with bubblewrap and shipped it with care. This is definitely a "wow" item for any star wars fan, and pretty enough that I don't mind leaving it out for display in my living room. :)
Power Button will not work; product has scuff marks

Like a good number of other reviews on here, this one arrived out of order. Tried replacing batteries as the instructions suggested and still no luck. I'll note some pros and cons about the experience thus far below.
Pros: Shipping was fast
Cons: Did not work upon unboxing.
Box had minor wear on it and looked as if it had been repackaged.
There was evidence of wear and tear on the holocron, even though it's advertised as "new." The underside had it's fair share of light scuff marks and there were a few minor scratches on a couple of the sides. Normally I wouldn't mind so much, but being a "new" product (that coincidentally isn't even working) it seems suspicious.
I'll be returning it and ordering a replacement. Will update the review accordingly afterwards.
Update: Recieved the new one in the mail yesterday. This one works great! No issues thus far. The door opens and closes smoothly, the button WORKS, and the book is awesome. My only critique is that the sound quality is pretty poor, but i didnt exactly expect it to be HD for only 50 bucks. Will bump the rating to 4 stars

***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***
Got this for Christmas. Beautiful container (although it's a lot bigger than what a Sith Holocron has been described as -- yes, I realize that marks me as a Star Wars geek), and the book inside really looks like what it is purported to be: a collection of writings from different Expanded Universe (EU) eras. It's suitable for any Star Wars EU fan, but those who have read the Bane Trilogy and other Old Republic novels (particularly Paul Kemp's "Deceived") will appreciate it the most. Both Luke Skywalker and Darth Sidious' (aka Emperor Palpatine's) scribbled notes through the margins add to the authenticity: I only wish there had been more notes from Yoda and Mace Windu, as their notes alongside the dark side masters' texts provide a nice back-and-forth dialogue. The book lags a bit with Mother Talzin's "Wild Power," but the other sections are uniformly terrific: I got a wry chuckle out of Darth Sidious' proclamation in "Absolute Power" that the Death Star would be unstoppable with his later scrawlings that the engineers had been executed and the architect tortured. In short: It looks very nice sitting atop my stereo and also makes me want to purchase the Jedi and Bounty Hunter editions.
Better than expected

Being a Star Wars fanatic, I was excited to find this piece of merchandise! It turned out to be much cooler than I expected. It is pretty much a toy, which I'm ok with buying as an adult since it is awesome, but it has the book and "Sith Artifacts" inside which are really cool. The book is written from the perspective of Darth Sideous/Emperor Palpatine and contains pieces of ancient Sith texts and transcripts. It has cool designs, and the pages actually look like they were compiled from various different tomes and manuscripts. The holocron itself is very cool! It requires 3 AA in order to open so I would be prepared with some when it arrives. It comes with batteries, but mine were dead so I just put fresh ones in. I could mark down my review because of this, but I'm not a complainer and I didn't pay for batteries. The holocron makes noises and lights up when it is opening. A tray inside, powered by a small motor, moves the book out so that you can remove it. All in all, a super cool product and something I would buy for any Star Wars fan.
Vault Edition Is Awesome

This arrived in perfect condition. It was placed in a shipping box and shipped that way. I've read reviews of others who say Amazon just shipped it in the box it comes with. I was absolutely ready to return it if that was the case, based on principle alone. But that didn't happen, so very happy about that.
It's an amazing piece. And I'm thankful it got re-released. Works fine, no problems. The included batteries were dead when it arrived which scared me at first but replacing them was easy and it functioned properly, with sound/lights afterwards.
The Holocron Vault takes two AA batteries. Mine works perfectly as it should. Just push the button on the front then it lights up, opens and out comes the book on a tray. Care is required as this is all mechanical and the gears are likely very fragile. It's sounds are kind of loud but the entire process only lasts about 10 seconds from a closed state to open. It looks very impressive for sure.
No regrets whatsoever with my purchase. Very pleased and highly recommend for any SW fan or those interested in Sith lore. The book is fantastic and filled to the brim with interesting content. There's six sections of journal entries about various Sith Lords spanning many centuries. Just overall very interesting to me and very well put together.
There's little extras included between random pages of the book that are appreciated and add value to this. And it really makes you feel like you've got something historic and darkly powerful regarding the "knowledge" that it contains. Although that's just me letting my imagination run wild, obviously. But it's still really cool.
Buy this now before it goes out of stock, because when that happens the 3rd party sellers will be the only ones offering it for ungodly prices. I got it for $60. Which is a great price imo for what you're getting here. There's also (among five other vaults: Jedi Path, Bounty Hunters Code, Imperial Handbook, Rebel Files, Smugglers Guide) a Rebel Files Vault I'll likely be buying as well although it's slightly more expensive atm.
I'm tempted to get the stand alone book (same book without the Holocron) because the cover of that one has the words and tribal design colored black. Which looks really nice, as opposed to the one that comes with this set that has a slightly deeper red for the words on the cover.
David Wallace, the author of the book is a really nice guy, I've seen his comments on YouTube reviews of this and he seems to generally care about it. I think he did a fantastic job and look forward to more content from him. 5/5 stars. Totally worth owning. No regrets.
Could not be happier! Made my Starwars fan estatic!

These books and cases are pretty much the coolest thing I have ever seen! I bought one of each style, first this one and also; The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force [Vault Edition
] and The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett
. I bought one for three boys( One is an oversized boy). This one was for my 16-year-old son.
The box that it is packaged is nice (worth saving). The Holocron case itself it HUGE! All Shiny black and red. It is I would say guessing about 10 inches, maybe 12 square at the base. When you push the button, the front of the pyramid pops open and lifts up as the red lights flash and the sound of lightsabers powering on plays. As the lid opens a tray containing the "Book of the Sith" slides out. Really awesome! My son thought it was just the best gift ever. Yeah we are all Starwars fans! On the inside tray where the book is is the Sith Crystal (it does come out). The book is pretty cool , stuck between the pages are artifacts of the sith, maps and compass like item.
My son has already read the book at least 4 or five times. The book it written as a SITH with footnotes and handwritten notes in the magins, It is as if you are reading the private thoughts of past Sith lords. So if you have or know a Starwars fan and you want to give them a gift they will LOVE you for .... These vault editions are it!
Awesome piece, but packaging seemed "used."

The book so far is really awesome and I love the presentation of the entire thing! I do have some thoughts to share on the quality of the box and the marks on my hologram that make it appear not brand new.
The box seemed to have been opened before and looked roughly handled. I feel like the original packaging maybe had one of those plastic seals covering the entire thing. This package only had tape on the box to close the tabs that slide out to open the box lid. The item inside has a few questionable marks and scuffs on it that really make me feel like it's not new. The book has a harsh cut on top left like something cut into it really badly. I'm not sure what caused this. On one of the red triangle panels on the side, there are to small plastic dots that are sticking out and are clearly not supposed to be there.
Aside from thinking I may have received a previously opened item, which to me makes it "not new," I really love this piece. I think it would make ANY Star Wars fan happy to have, and makes an AWESOME birthday gift for any fan. There are also Jedi, and Bounty Hunter versions too. Or just the books available if you don't want the whole shabang!
Great set but the holocron is junk.

The book itself is good. Really good. The crystal and the other stuff w/ it is ok. The holocron... *sighs* is a disappointment. Initially it was the most epic thing ever and then it goes down hill. The quality of it is bad. Like the batteries. I pushed the button I'd say about 50 times since I bought it in 2000. Other than that it's just sat there. During those times it did have issues. Put some batteries in it and pushed it again. The door didn't even go all the way up. And a random piece of plastic came out. This would be a five but this knocked it down to a four and I feel the other items could've been made better. Other than that. It's pretty good.
