Product Description
The Jakks Creepy Crawlers Bug Maker transforms slime to bugs in no time. It's easy for kids to start making bugs. Just pour the plasti-goop compound in the bug molds and turn up the heat. When it's done baking, take out the cooling tray, let them cool, and voila -- they've got creepy creatures to gross out their friends. Buggin' Out
Making the bugs is half the fun! The set comes with three distinctly different plasti-goop colors, encouraging kids to come up with festive or freaky new bug combinations. Using the goop FX detailing pens and three detailing tips, bug-makers can scorch the shades and shapes of each scorpion claw and every wormy body segment. A goop FX pick is also included for pulling the bugs out of the trays.
Twice the Fun in Half the Time
The new and improved Creepy Crawlers creates up to 40 bugs -- twice as many twisted creatures in just half the time. The brightly colored oven is almost as fun as the bug-making process itself, with a gross wriggling crawler on top for inspiration. There are also bug-covered holders on the sides that store the double-use spatula and cooling tray. Made with durable plastic, the oven, trays, and spatula are child-safe and stand up to hours of experimentation in the bug laboratory. This classic boy's toy is recommended for kids 8 to 12 years old. The oven requires a 60-watt small base light bulb, sold separately, but available in virtually any grocery store.

Bugs Yea!by T. Kadrie (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought my then-five-year-old a Creepy Crawlers Bugmaker for Xmas in 2008. I'd grown up with the original Creepy Crawlers sets in the 70s, and knew that they were a ton of fun.
The set was a hit, and my son still plays around with it (at 10). Yes, the modern version is lightbulb driven (no character-building hot metal plates to teach them common sense :P). And the plastic construction is a long way from the metal of the originals - though we haven't had any breakage or jammed components others have mentioned.
And the modern plastics in use are low-temp curing. But the fun is still there in the box. And, you can even leverage older plates! Albeit, you'll be competing with deep wallet adults in some cases. :D
Shoot! I see you can pick up the base oven set these days for as little as $10! Get to it!

My husband and I bought this for my son's 9th birthday ~ and it was a major hit! He was able to make dozens of bugs with only the molds and goo included - and refills are not expensive. The bugs come out perfectlty and are quite durable. The safety latch on our oven worked only for a few rounds, so if buying this product for a younger child, keep your eye on a timer to make sure the oven cools down enough to touch the molds. They are very hot once done! Overall, a well-made product that was totally worth the expense!
It's fun to 'cook bugs'...

Great product. My son is having lots of fun in cooking (making) bugs. I guess if I could change any thing about this product is that the manufacturer should include a little booklet with bug facts to match the molds that are included. Also, I was expecting a few more bug 'molds' but this kit only comes with two. Finally, your little one must have a steady hand when placing the mold into the 'oven' because if it goes in at a slant, you will have to tip the oven to get the mold out and then means the 'goo' will slosh all over the inner parts of the oven. My husband just unscrewed the bottom and it cleaned-up in a snap. Now it's as good as new, ready to cook more bugs. I'm thiking of getting some more colors of 'goo' and some more molds just give my son a little more variety. Just an FYI for the shoppers out there. :-)
As much fun as it was when I was a kid!

Both my husband and I loved Creepy Crawlers when we were children, so as soon as we saw it we bought it. It's as much fun as I remember, but a lot safer. As kids, we were constantly burning our hands, and this one has some good safety features.
My kids are enjoying it as much as we did. I would recommend you purchase extra trays and goop, as it only comes with 2 trays and we went through most of the goop within the first day! We bought extra trays, and it made it easier for two kids to play with it at the same time.

Bought as a gift for my nephew and niece for Christmas. Be forewarned you have to buy the light bulb separately. I don't know why they don't include the bulb but you can pick them up almost anywhere. My nephew and niece really enjoyed making there own bugs and I think that it gave them a sense of accomplishment that they could do it themselves.(With parental supervision.) I would recommend.
Creepy Fun That Lasts.

As a Christmas gift my kds love this one! I had a similar product growing up in the 70's and 80's and wanted my kids to experience the same fun I had. The overall product is a little fragile but as long as yo treat it with care it lasts for a long time. We have had ours now for 7 months and the kids have continued their learning process of following directions and being paient as well as safety procedures from the heat. However, the manufacturer has provided necessary equipment to be safe. We mix colors of goo and create some of the coolest creaures and I highly suggest for you to experience the same fun with your kids.
Fun for the kids (and the kid in all of us)

When my daughter asked santa for this for Christmas I didn't know what she was talking about. We did not see it in ANY stores. Going on blind faith, we received it from santa and have been very pleased.
First off, the molds are die cast. Reminded me of toys when I was a kid. The oven is plastic - don't know how durable it will be, but hey, you leave it on the table when things are cooking. Also, don't forget to buy a 60W candelabra bulb - not included.
At first she went to work just filling in the molds with solid colors. By the time we were on our 3rd batch we were trying different head colors, just the antennae or legs multicolored, swirls... We were having a ball just seeing what different combinations we could get. My wife outdid us all with a spider with multicolored body with perfect white dots up it's legs.
Overall, she (we) were entertained for hours. She was very patient, bubbly with anticipation as the creepy crawlers cooled. Very cool toy.
Some other things to mention:
as stated above, don't forget the bulb
I would suggest getting refill goop and maybe different colors since it only comes with 3 smaller bottles
One drawback is that it is not sold in any stores by us so getting new molds to create different creepy crawlers will be a blind internet purchase.
It takes about 15-20 minutes for the molds to cool so it will teach the child patience while they are working on another mold.
Fill the molds completely. if you leave too thin a goop layer, they will look cool, but will be prone to ripping or tearing if played with roughly (like all kids do).
So far, so good. Overall very pleased with our bugmaker

I used to have this when I was young, and loved it then. I knew it was a must have for my kids (ages 8, 5 and 4 currently). They love making their own bugs! Of course, we supervise and don't allow our younger two to use the oven. Perfect though! Thanks!
part of it broke, but it is so nostalgic for me

I grew up with one of these as my favorite toys. It broke a little after first time of use a little plastic piece which opens door, but I use a stick to open it so I do still use it. I play this with my kids and love it. It requires a bit of patience to make the bugs, but its worth it.
