The perfect replacement of a real tarantula for a 6 year oldby Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)

RC Tarantula! My grandson 6 years of age loves spiders, can tell you all about a multitude of species, he would love to have his own tarantula, yet he has spunky 4 and 2 year old siblings.. We suggested he wait til they got a bit older. so he requested a rc one, perfect answer to his delimma. In order to purchase it he raised his own funds through selling homemade candies at his nearby shopping center. people were so generous as he showed them a picture of what he wanted to buy and explained to them why. He loves his Uncle Milton RC Tarantula, he bought some bugs and frogs as well for the tarantula to eat. Thank you for sending it so swiftly as well, almost no wait....
I have got to start believing negative reviewers on here. AVOID THIS ITEM.

Sadly, this is about the 8th item I'm returning where the rating was as bad as 3/5 and there were multiple negative reviews. I keep hoping the 1 stars were just flukes and that I'd get a properly functional product. But no, this was the last straw.
Item arrived non-functional. After placing batteries in both the spider and the remote, both lit up. You could hear the radio buzz when it transmitted, and the lights on the spider dimmed a little, so I know they were communicating. BUT IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, even on the proper "smooth surface" as described in the "manual" ie back of box. I hate to take the time to return a product that cost so little cash, but this is ridiculous.
Many props to the reviewers who vent their frustrations on these cheap buys. I'll trust you from now on.
Not great but not bad either

Dont expect something fancy.. I didnt.
It was just okay. Not great but not bad either.
Spider is a good size. You have to be close to it for it to work. Only works on hard surfaces.. You can hear the wheels moving it.
Good for scaring kids and adult may be harder, I tried on my coworkers...
use it to scare my employees & it works great

lots of fun for practical jokes. It doesn't walk on carpet well and the distance for the remote is awful. I tried hiding it under a desk, but I have to be within 5 or so feet for it to work, and trying to scare someone is much more difficult when you are standing behind them with a remote that has a 2 ft antenna.
However, I found someone in the office with arachnophobia so I just put it on their desk and it does all the work without needing the remote.
To address it being very fragile... I have had it dropped, and thrown several times and it sill works fine.
Very disappointed

Got this for my 9 yr old daughter who is crazy about all animals, even spiders. She was so excited when it arrived and it worked for a few weeks. Then I noticed Mr. Spider, just sitting on her bed shelf with one leg cocked to the side. When I asked her what happened she starting crying and said the spider won't work anymore. I would have given 2 stars but she refuses to throw it out and had added the spider to her display.

I originally bought the cheaper discovery kids remote tarantuala. It arrived broken, so I returned it and ordered this. My 9 year old loves it. It worked right out of the packaging, and it can be handled and not break. The only reason I'm giving it 4 starts it only moves on very smooth surfaces. I gets caught on our Pergo flooring, so the only place it can be used is our laundry room or carefully on the table.
Think again

Arrived on time. On Christmas morning my 5 y.o. was so excited to play with it. After several battery changes, no luck. Did not work upon receiving. Sad and upsetting on Christmas for our son to receive a gift that didn't work.
Fun to watch reaction from pets

I got this as a gift for my father who has a cat and a small dog. It was a lot of fun to see the reaction from the animals. It's also great for scaring people although it's much too large to look real (9" x 11") and it has a loud, mechanical sound when it moves. Don't expect a lot of fine control from the remote--you get "go straight forward" and "turn while backing up". I only witnessed nipping from the dog and light pawing from the cat but I imagine this toy is not very durable. A rough child would destroy a couple of legs in less than 5 minutes. Note that batteries are NOT included and it requires 2 AA batteries for the remote and 2 AAA batteries for the spider.
DO NOT PURCHASE - DOES NOT WORK

When I was unwrapping this product, it was clearly sold before and retaped to package to resell - which was my first read flag. This product was supposed to be able to move by remote control but product did not work. I tried two different sets of new batteries to see if this product would work, but it didn't work at all. VERY DISAPPOINTED and sent it back for refund. Hopefully this vendor will not try to sell it to someone else.
Dismal excuse for a toy

I have been buying from Amazon for years and have never purchased a product that proved to be so exceedingly subpar. In order for remote to work, a person has to stay less than a foot away from the spider. Pressing the control buttons sometimes sparks a reaction & sometimes not. Unfortunately in his excitement of getting this "cool" toy, our 5 hr old grandson tore up the packaging & threw away, so I've no way to return this toy that is do poorly made, production of it should stop. I'd rate it all zeros but it's not an option on this review. It's one thing to waste my money; quite another to deflate the excitement of a five year old.
Scared my coworker

Tucked this lil guy behind my coworkers desk and scared the stuffing out of her! Has a realistic movement, but will NOT go on carpet/rough surfaces/tile with thick grout, makes a fair amount of noise when "walking" and you have to be pretty close for the remote to work... Regardless I would pay any amount of money to make my coworker jump the way she did when this came at her, bahahahaha!!
