They love them but as parents we "like" them
by K-ROOSK (3 out of 5 stars)

We ordered this along with two additional two packs for our family. They love them but as parents we "like" them. These can be used indoors, but I recommend using caution with that as others have said. All it takes is one kid trying to duck or dive around a corner, table, or door for a quick accident to occur. I love that this gets the kids outdoors for hours on end. There are other kids that also have these so they have one large game running around and hiding. The battery usage is really good. We ordered these and forgot to order rechargeable batteries. We had to settle for regular batteries and that actually did the trick. The kids have played with these daily for at least three weeks straight and we have not had to replace the batteries! Now on to the four things that I do not like. I am not a fan of the team settings. The instructions clearly explain how to set the the teams, but I think there should be a physical setting on the actual blaster. The IPod feature is pretty obsolete. It's not compatible with the newer versions so it really serves no purpose for our family. We knew that before purchasing though. Next, the blasters give a "danger" warning when another blaster on the opposite team is getting closer. That sure does take away from the game. I wish they would take that feature out of the game altogether. The other thing that doesn't sit well with me is the steps needed to start a new game. You have to turn the switch off and then back on. Although, that only takes all of two seconds to do, you still have to get the teams set again. All in all, this is a good choice if you are looking to get the kids outdoors. Most of the cons are from an adult perspective because I paid for them. If this was written by the kids, the only con would be the process to start a new game.

Pros:

Indoor Use

Outdoor Use

Physical Activity for the Kids

Battery Usage

Cons:
"Danger" Warning Sound

On/Off to Start New Game

IPod Compatibility

Team Settings

I was born in the wrong generation

This is easily the coolest laser tag ever. Seriously, SO much fun, for kinds and adults I got them for my seven year old son as a surprise for a good report card. He's hinted towards wanting laser tag the past few times we've been in the toy store, so when I came across these guns on here and saw that you could hook up iPods/iPhones, I knew I had to get them. With the mix of reviews, I was a little nervous in whether or not they would be worth it, but since I've never had a problem with Amazon returns, I figured it was worth the gamble.

Totally worth it.

We were playing with them within 5 minutes of opening the box.

You need 12(!) AA batteries to get them working (6 AAs each). The iPod cradles snapped right on, no problem. My son uses an iPod touch 4th gen and I have an iPhone 4S. Included in the package are rubber bumpers to protect the iPods, you put them in the cradle after downloading the free app, and play. And play, and play, and play....

You can play solo or against opponents. Included in the box are 2 guns but up to 4 opponents can play at a time.

You can also play without the iPods plugged in.

The instructions say that once you connect the cradle, they can't come back off. Well, that's not entirely true. They definitely don't come off easily, but it can be done with the right tools and then just snap right back on again.

The only downside is the drain on your iPod/phone battery. It seriously drains FAST, so make sure you're charged up before playing and plug back in after.

These guns take home laser tag to a whole new level. Do yourself and your kids a favor and get these. I can't even imagine having something this cool as a kid. Of course, I seem way more impressed by them than my kids do, but that's why youth is wasted on the young.

Huge hit!
by Kristine G (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for my husband to use with our next door neighbor as a guy bonding thing for Christmas (yes they're 30-something haha). I figured if they didn't like it or if it was too "kiddish" that the neighborhood kids could play with it. To say it was a huge hit is an understatement. They've been playing with it often since Christmas for hours and the batteries are still going strong.

It's easy to use as kids of all ages have used these around our neighborhood. The only complaints my husband has had is no one can figure out why sometimes it makes sounds like rapid fire when no one is pressing the trigger and two, he would love to hook his iPhone up to it but it only works with a gen 4 or older iPhone/iPod. We're bummed that Hasbro hasn't caught this up with the current technology, unless I accidently bought an older version. He's currently in search of an old iPod touch so they can play games with it. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this set for any age kids.

but these are perfect for the large
by ZooFamily (5 out of 5 stars)

We have fond family memories of playing laser tag in the woods at a Yogi Bear camp on the east coast, so we purchased these laser tag guns as a Christmas gift for our boys. We are currently living in the desert southwest (no woods to romp around), but these are perfect for the large, open parks near our home. We have never attached any type of advice to them, but by following the package directions, we are able to choose team play or free-for-all play. The guns have an impressively long range & seem to be high quality. After 10 hits, you're out, at which point you can reset the game or wait for the other players to finish, depending on your established rules. My only complaint is the sounds are a bit on the loud & screechy side for indoor play (they made for a Christmas afternoon headache), but it's not a problem for outdoor play. Great for a wholesome outdoor family activity with older children.

Great fun for the whole family

I am just reviewing the guns as lazer tag guns, not as ipod or iphone attached video-game style guns (although the guns do have that capability). The guns are heavy duty, well-constructed plastic guns that my boys (9,6,5) have enjoyed as well as their girl cousins (11,8). We bought 4 so we could have 2 teams of 2 people. All of the kids are able to lug these guns around and blast each other. The guns seem to have good range and they are simple enough for the kids to have lots of fun playing with them. I had fun blasting away with these as well. I have great memories of using these toys as a kid and am glad to be able to watch the kids having fun with this newer version of an old classic. A great product!

5 year olds love these!
by Collin M. Horn (4 out of 5 stars)

My 5 year old twin boys got these for Christmas and they're a big hit! The shield function is cool and they love the sound effects. All the noise is a little annoying to me, but hey, the kids are up and moving! Battery life is actually pretty decent too, which is good, because these take 6 batteries each. The options are pretty basic without a smart phone attached, which is why I'm only rating them 4 stars. I expected a little more for the price. I doubt my boys will play with them for years to come, since they'll probably get bored, but they sure do love them at 5!

it would have been better if there was some sort of hit counter on ...
by DWood (3 out of 5 stars)

ordered two sets of these for a birthday party and 1 pair was broken (1 of the guns didn't work at all). The guns themselves don't work with new IPhone/Ipod (but they state this clearly). The play on these was okay... it would have been better if there was some sort of hit counter on the gun itself since you didn't really know how many hits you had remaining before you are out. The broken pair notwithstanding, I think these are just "okay" and would have been better at a cheaper price or if they had the improvements mentioned above.

So much fun BUT.....

These are so much fun! Great outdoors and in for our whole family, young and old. Awesome gift. We got two sets! Unfortunately, update! One of the guns is defective and I have not heard from the seller in response to my message from two days ago. I thought it was just old batteries so didn't discover the problem until later.

Waste of money. Find something else for your child!

Thought this was going to be the 'best' Christmas gift of 2012. Nerf has always been a great name and a fun brand to play with. This item is a complete flop in my opinion. Found out son's friends in neighborhood would be getting this also, so we all got our kids this as interactive play together. I even talked my sister into buying this item for my 10 year old nephew. My son (11yrs old) is an electronic whiz and was excited to open it on Christmas morning!! Item was fun for literally 2-3 days, then it wouldn't work correctly. Item was iffy at best. Lazer didn't really work correctly and the whole thing got tossed to the bottom of the toy box by New Year's Eve. My nephews lazer made a high pitched sound from the moment he opened his gift. My sister eventually returned it to Amazon for a refund. I've never seen our neighbors play with their lazers. What a waste of money. If you are thinking about this...my advice to you is....DON'T!! (I'm not a regular writer of reviews, and as you can see by the date of this post, it's almost the July 4th weekend, but I thought I'd leave this review, even if it is months late. I just thought you should know about this disappointing toy)

Kids like them
by John (4 out of 5 stars)

We bought 3 for Christmas and my boys 4 and 6 have a good time with them. Dad joins in too sometimes. :)

The Ipod holder game is pretty slick but installing the holder makes aiming difficult for the laser tag games and it's a lot more bulky. It can be removed but it is tricky. You need to pry back some tabs and pull hard. Before you install it, look at the tabs and how they snap in so you can remove them as we did.
