Awesome for both kids and parents!

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter. She wasn't into space or anything beforehand but it has helped her gain an interest in it now. I thought this was a great gift for her because she is still a little scared of the dark. This gives off the perfect amount of light in her room. I love how it has a timer as well so it doesn't drain the batteries too much. Of all of her toys with batteries this one gets changed the least number of times and she uses it every night. I hung it up on her wall close to the ceiling and also put up glow in the dark stars all around and a black light underneath it. It really looks amazing. My two year old loves it just as much, especially since it has a remote control that either of them can use to turn it back on if it goes off before they fall asleep. You can set the moon to be full or one of it's different phases which my daughter can now tell you but I still can't! It's been a year since I bought it and it's still going strong. I highly recommend it.

Perfect nightlight for room without a power outlet
by Gna (5 out of 5 stars)

Don't know why my 3 year old boy loves the moon and always look for it close to night time... so I found this and got it for christmas. And he loves it! He has a small 'extra' room in his room that has no windows or power outlet for nightlight. It gets dark inside so this helps and also entertain him before bed. He would put it on full-moon mode and stare at it til he falls asleep. Thank you for making this product and thank you Amazon. The moon delivered pack inside Amazon box with the original packaging, so nothing damage. The moon requires AAA batteries for the remote and AA batteries for the moon. In the back has three holes to hang in different angle of how you like the moon tilt.

Bummed

Either I'm missing something, or I got a faulty product - one of the panels does not light up. This means I can't display a fill moon :(. I think it's a really cool concept, but I'm bummed it doesn't work.

Beautiful, and it survived a good drop!

I bought this moon while redecorating my son's room for big boy furniture. I wanted this to be the special touch that he could have at the end of everyday in his new room. We had just moved and I didn't have any screws or nails to hang Uncle Milton's Moon in My Room with, but I had some tiny command hooks I used for Christmas lights. I used 3 of them hooked into the screw holes as a temporary fix.

Fast-forward two months later when Mommy completely forgets this detail and the moon comes crashing down in the middle of story time. My son was traumatized his beloved moon fell, and I thought it was a goner. After all, it fell 8 feet to a hardwood floor!

But it turned back on! Such a happy Mommy-moment. Though I'm sure this item wasn't made for durability, I can say it definitely has some!

What Uncle Milton's Moon in My Room was made for is beauty, and I can say it has the most beauty to my son. He loves the moon, and having it in his room is the most precious thing to him. I'm attaching close-up pictures of it lit up to help everyone see its beauty! (And an unlit as well.)

The light is brightest in the center, but the pictures make it look like more than it is in real life.

Good for young children.
by R. Xadian (3 out of 5 stars)

The shipping: Quickly shipped and adequately packaged.

The item: A unique idea, but this item is definitely more suited for young children rather than those who are looking for a more realistic moon accent. Item construction is good. There is some light bleed from the illumination, which takes a bit from the ambiance. I also would have preferred to have an on and off switch instead of it being on a self timer. During the day it just looks like I hung a marshmallow pie on the wall. If you have toddlers, however, this would be great for them. They aren't looking for lunar detail, and would enjoy the timed night light. If you are an astronomer type, Amazon has many glow-in-the-dark decals and moon models that will look more real.

The price: This unit price varies across Amazon, so shop around. I would give it a value of $20-25.

The summary: For small children it is great.

Great "toy" that teaches the Moons cycles and looks pretty
by Thais Macpherson (5 out of 5 stars)
March 16, 2015

Really fun toy for all ages, though I recommend not letting your 3 year old play too much with the remote : )

The moon takes AA batteries and the remote takes AAA so we made an extra trip to the store, put them in, and it worked beautifully. Its neat to see the different stages of the moon. It glows in a bluish hue, which is pretty, as opposed to yellow.

It was really easy to put up on my sons wall and now its his night light as it turns off on its own after 30 minutes regardless of the setting its on. Theres a manual setting where you can "scroll" through the cycles of the moon or an automatic one where it will do it on its own. Both settings will shut off after that amount of time.

This is one of those items that a child of 3 can enjoy or an older kid can. Its just best to keep the pieces away from the little ones...

It got to us within a week, which we were happy about.

Definitely recommend this neat item to anyone.

Not one of Uncle Milton's best efforts
by ©ooper (2 out of 5 stars)

Perhaps this is one of those items where many reviewers got this item in exchange for an 'honest and unbiased' review. After reading several glowing (no pun intended) reviews, I had high hopes for this product. Although not a complete disappointment, enough of one to decide to return it after a very short time. Here's why:

It shows several moon phases from crescent to full, waxing and waning, only the first crescent moon appeared realistic. All the others revealed to sharp a division where you could see dimmer lights from the other phases. For example, the last quarter was bright, but you could still see a division between the last quarter and last half.

With all the phases other than the first crescent, the moon glowed slightly. Which although not unattractive, a bit distracting being able to see the divisions between phases.

In all phases that were more than half lit, especially the full moon, there was a bright spot in the middle. To me this was the main thing I disliked about it. Having such an uneven illumination most of the time.

Then there is 'auto' mode. Not sure what I expected, since recreating the actual current moon phase might be somewhat difficult in an inexpensive item. But having it cycle through each phase every five seconds wore thin very quickly. Maybe, with the price of cheap watches, it shouldn't be so difficult to track the actual moon phase. Even the rising and setting times.

I didn't have it up long enough to determine battery life. But even some of the complimentary reviews concede it is not long. Maybe with a set of rechargeable batteries, not a big deal. But then, to change the batteries, you'll have to dig out your Philips screwdriver to remove the battery cover. Not sure why they couldn't have just used a toolless clip. The remote uses a screw on the battery cover too.

I have another Uncle Milton toy, 'Fireflies in My Room', or something like that, and it's kind of cool. And I once considered an Uncle Milton ant farm, but too many people said the ants died or arrived dead. So this had a 50/50 chance, but unfortunately doesn't make the grade in my opinion. Depending on your needs and expectations, it may meet yours.

There's also a larger version that costs considerably more, and includes a lunar eclipse function. So if you missed the real one last month and can't wait 17 years for the next 'blood' moon, you can consider that one.

EDIT: I've noticed numerous reviews that are extremely brief with 5 star ratings. Amazon has had a problem with planted or purchased 5 star reviews. After my experience with this product, I wouldn't trust any of them.

Lasted Great for Two Years Now
by Craig (5 out of 5 stars)
August 2, 2019

Like many two-year-olds, my son went through a faze where he was fascinated by the moon, so I got this as one of his Christmas gifts.

The first year, he used it almost every night. He's four now, and he still uses it once in a while. But during this past two years, it's held up great and he LOVED it as:

a) it produced a nice glow in his room as a night-light

and

b) he was fascinated with the moon, so a moon night-light was the bees-knees for a 2 year-old.

When he was using it almost every night, I'd have to replace the batteries either once a month or once every two months. And the battery life is dependent on the quality of batteries that you put into it.

If you have a toddler who is fascinated by the moon, then this will make an EXCELLENT gift; and I am very happy with this purchase.

Nice product with a few minor concessions
by MamaLaus (5 out of 5 stars)
May 15, 2018

Very happy with this purchase as it nicely complements the rest of our nursery decor. The remote gives you several options (on/off, timer cycling through phases and manual phase control) and the light is vey nice. As some have mentioned, some of the phases aren't perfectly illuminated and a little off from one another but not enough to bother me (or the baby duh!) one bit!

The other downside would be that it is battery powered only but since we are using rechargeable batteries, it doesn't bother me and apparently you can buy the adapter if you wish to use it.

Very happy with this purchase and 100% recommend!

every night we lay and look at the moon and stars (glow in the dark) and discuss the different phase
by honest (3 out of 5 stars)
January 7, 2016

When I found this moon I was so excited. My little guys share a space themed room, complete with rocket ship and solar system. Every morning they wake up, pick a planet and pretend to blastoff before breakfast. Now, every night we lay and look at the moon and stars (glow in the dark) and discuss the different phases and what the view from up there looks like.

Absolutely love their adventures spirit and their curiosity, this only amplifies it!

Ascetically it is actually very pleasing. The light is bright enough to serve as a night light, the moon cycles through the phases, and the "craters" and shadows are very realistic.
3 stars only because after a month or so of daily use the remote doesn't always respond. Have to push really hard or even multiple times to get it to go. Since there is no on button on the moon itself, the remote is critical for function.
