I love it

This thing is awesome. Based on the other reviews, I bought the Medium for my German Shepherd. She's on the small side (50lbs) but even if she was a 100lb beast, I think the Medium would be fine. Like the others said, I think the large is for giant breeds like Saint Bernards.

I don't know about the smaller cup's bristles, but the Medium's bristles are really soft. There's absolutely no way this would hurt even a hairless dog.

My dog tolerates getting her paws cleaned with the plunger but I can tell she doesn't like it. I praise her while I do it and get excited with her when we're done (sometimes with treats, sometimes with a toy, sometimes with just an excited voice). She still doesn't *want* to use the plunger but that's okay. She'll even try to avoid it. She'll run towards the door to come inside until she sees the Paw Plunger in my hands, then she'll act like she didn't want to come inside, she just wanted to run past the door, and she'll look dejected when I call her back to me.

It's hard to tell size in the photo because she's lifting her foot out of the plunger, but I think I could get a paw twice that size in there comfortably. I'll mention that I don't think she can put her foot all the way down inside the plunger and stand on the foot - there's not enough room for that. For cleaning her feet, I dip each foot in until I hear her nails click against the bottom, then I go back up and dip it another 2 or 3 times. Then I squeeze the water off her foot and move on to the next foot.

If you have a dog, get it!!

I am not a huge fan of pets and all of their nasty habits and dirt they bring in, but I really do love my dogs and couldn't live without them. I can live without their dirt though and this helps a TON!! I already hate mud, but add in the fact that I have white slipcovered couches which I really don't want to be washing EVERY day, and the paw plunger is a life saver! I just put warm water in it and plunge the dogs paws. I dry their paws with the Norwex pet towel and they are good to go. I am always amazed at all of the dirt that comes off of their paws. It's disgusting. I'm so glad it's in the paw plunger instead of all over my house though. Plus, it's great for in the winter when your dogs paws are one big snowball. The warm water melts the snow right off!! Get one!! Your house will be so much cleaner! (The video I posted is from my dog just being outside for 10 minutes and that's how dirty his paws were.) Another nice feature is that it all comes apart for easy cleaning.

Fantastic product!

We live in a 1,000 sqft apartment with hardwood floors in downtown Chicago, and our two 35 pound Spring Spaniels go outside 6 or more times each day, for exercise and to "do their duty". We've grown weary of them tracking dirt, salt, etc., all over the place. We've tried wiping their paws and this only dries them, but does nothing to clean.

This thing really works! I've had a bunch of people ask me about it (I posted an endorsement on FaceBook a few weeks ago) and some folks say "Why not just use a bucket and a towel?". Well, let me tell you why...

First of all, the Paw Plunger has an "aperture" seal on the top, that keeps most of the water inside the receptacle.

Secondly, it has scrubby brushes inside to remove grit, salt, dirt, etc. Does your bucket have these?

Thirdly, the handle on the side is very useful - instead of just dipping a dirty paw into a bucket of water, something that even the most chillaxin' pooch might have a problem with, you just hold the dog's paw and leg stationary, and move the Paw Plunger up and down via the handle. Genius!

In case you doubt how effective this can be, here's a photo of the water after one walk when it wasn't even that messy outside...

All in all, and especially for the price, get this thing! It really works, is inexpensive, is well-built and solves a lot of the problems when you have dogs that go outside. We fill it with warm water in the front bathroom, put the top on it, and place it outside our entry door in the hallway along with a "dog towel" when we are heading outside. Then when we come back home, we clean up in the hallway outside our apartment, before even coming inside, then come inside and dump the dirty water in the toilet. This works GREAT!

Regarding the size, as stated above, we have two 35 pound dogs. The medium is PLENTY big and almost too big. It's nice to have a large volume of water, but the unit is so large that I need to swirl the dog's paws around a bit to contact all portions of their paws. I fear a small would be too small.

Worst Amazon purchase ever

Worst Amazon purchase ever... the premise was great! We have dogs that love to romp in the backyard and it is frequently a "mud-pit" due to the weather. I thought this would be a great solution . I got a medium for our blue heeler and a large for our german shepherd. They are very obliging to get their paws wiped with wet rags, but sometimes a bin of water outside is the only way to get them mud free. When these arrived I was going to show my husband how to use them...put the dog's paw (my hand as an example) into the plunger and then pull it out. My hand ended up scraped and nearly bloody because of the stiff collar that is supposed to squeegee some of the extra water off when their paws come back out of the "cup" I will NOT subject my furbabies to that kind of pain. They will continue to "sit" when they come back in the house and offer each paw for a towel bath...no pain involved there...just a little extra time and care on my part..DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Best Money I've Ever Spent On A Dog With Feet
by Heather (5 out of 5 stars)
November 12, 2015

I purchased & received the large Paw Plunger this week, so I can't say how well this item will hold up after a long period of time, but we have a 75lb, 28" tall at the shoulders Goldendoodle with curly hair & large paws, and a brand new yard on the coast that is 95% sand. In the past 3 months I've been wiping his paws ineffectively and spending most of my housekeeping time sweeping/vacuuming all the sand that he brings in and deposits on our hard floors. My husband would occasionally fill a bucket to clean & wash his feet, but that was not an effective long-term solution.

Our new veterinarian, upon hearing me whine about the situation, recommended I buy this product because she uses it with her own dogs. From the first time I used it I was sold! It looks like one of those oversized water jugs you can get at a convenience store, with a fitted insert for paws and legs. I stuck my hand (and my kids') inside to try it out and the bristles inside are very soft, and will not hurt sensitive paw pads. The rubber piece at the top made it tricky to pull my hand out (it reminded me of the scene in "Where The Red Fern Grows" with the racoon who gets its hand stuck in a log because it won't let go of a shiny piece of tin), but that's helpful in wringing some of the water off the furry paws.

Our dog is used to having his feet handled many times a day - we've been wiping them every time he comes in from being outside since we got him almost 5 years ago - so he's already used to standing still for us, and it only took a few minutes to teach him what we were doing. But if you have a dog who is jumpy/twitchy or doesn't like having its paws touched, this might not be the right product for you.

I will say that the large size is definitely for dogs with LARGE feet; when I had previously purchased all-weather booties for him in a desperate attempt to cut down on the dirt, I bought the large size that only covered half his feet and he should have been in an extra-large. But this large contraption is made for really big paws; we might have been able to size down to a medium, though I think that may have been just a tad uncomfortable for him.

I filled it halfway up with warm water and set it on our 50 degree F porch to use when I let him out, putting the included cover on top. 30 minutes later the water inside was still warm, so it held the temperature nicely. I did need to use a towel to help wring the excess water off his feet as not all of it had come off, but I'd much rather have a little water on the floor than mud or sand, all of which was left behind in the plunger.

All in all, I wish I'd found this years ago; it would have saved my sanity and my floors many times over. I've already recommended it to my friends and family with dogs who understand the struggle.

Good idea but product is defective

I bought this for our pup thinking it would be a great solution to muddy paws or excessive rock salt. Our puppy actually was quite patient and didn't mind using it.

After about one month and perhaps 10 uses, the bristles are falling out in clumps. We haven't abused it or done anything unusual with it, so I'm extremely disappointed that this has been a waste of money. I wanted to contact the seller or ask for a refund because we were enjoying the plunger before it started falling apart, but apparently my window for contact or refunds has closed. Into the garbage it will go...

Perfect Solutions for Backyard Paws

Ignore every person who says the bristles are "hard," I stuck my hand in the paw plunger and it is certainly not painful. Of course the bristles are sctracty, but they are meant to scrun and it's exactly what they do! My 60 lb dog tolerates it and he's pretty vocal about anything that bothers him. I just add 1/2 a tablespoon of vinegar and baking soda to the mug and fill with warm water for each use. This not only clean his paws, but it's a soothing mix for your dogs paws. Love the Paw Plunger!!

If you have dogs, you need this

This is such a game changer! My dogs usually wear the rubber pawz booties to protect their paws from the salt and snow in the winter time but for days when they're not wearing the pawZ or for days when its a quick walk or when it's raining, I don't have the patience to chase them down to wrestle the booties on them so I usually just wipe their paws after their walks with the wet wipes. I've found that the wet wipes doesn't clean their paws thoroughly so when I came across the paw plunger, I had to give it a try. The paw plunger is so easy to use; just fill it with warm water, put the top on and stick your pups paw in. Hold your dog's paw with one hand and with the other move the paw plunger up and down a few seconds then gently pull the paw out and wipe off the excess water with a clean towel. Viola! Clean paws! Inside the top are bristles that clean the pads of the dog's paw. No soap needed. The first time I used it, when I dumped the water out after cleaning all 4 paws of just one of my dogs (I have 4), the water in the container was almost black with dirt and grime. So disgusting to know that was all on their paws. Strongly recommend for anyone with dogs. I took a star off because the Petite size was slightly too small to fit my dogs front paws comfortably. The Med size was way too big for my shihtzus. For reference, my dogs are all small breeds between 12-19. There needs to be a size in between the Petite and the Med. Be sure to help guide their paws in and out of the "plunger" so their dew claw doesn't get caught.

I would not recommend this product

I would not recommend this product. The little black squeegee thing is very sharp and I feel bad putting my baby's paws through it. I tried putting my fingers through the squeegee to see if it was pliable and it scratched my hands up. Im not going to do that to my little one.

Doesn't work, very bulky.
by Laura Wadsworth (1 out of 5 stars)
September 11, 2018

I love the concept, but this didn't work. I live at an apartment, and there is a lot of crushed granite and dirt outside where my dog goes potty. I feel like since you have to stick the paw in and then pull it out, it just spreads the dirt around. I think something like this would work if you were brushing in one direction, but doing both is not good. It's also really bulky to just keep on hand, and surprisingly heavy. I'll stick with a towel by the door.
