Here is one step at a time to avoid any and ALL headaches!
1- It's all a matter of physics and nothing else. The apparatus is just fine.
2- Consider the size of the extraction tube; three mm in diameter. Sucking oil at that! It WILL take time and plenty of it.
3- The sphere container which holds the vacuum and eventually the oil pumped, holds six liters! (That's 4 bottles of wine :-). That is a lot of vacuum suction to create!
4- The vacuum pump is a "reverse action pump" meaning it creates suction on the up swing of the pumping action. That means you need to really hold the bottom of the pump down where it connects to the container (THIS is the weak link IF not used with care).
Once the oil has been warmed up and you sink the tubing down through the dipstick hole all you need to work this out right is here.
The head of the extraction tube MUST be tightly worked into the sphere intake access.
The pump itself MUST be pushed down tightly into its access port at the top of the container.
Hold the pump tightly at its junction to the container and start pumping LEASURELY.
The vacuum will be created in due time after say 15 to 20 pumps and oil will appear in the extraction tubing.
Need to understand here that the viscosity of your oil AND its condition, will affect the extraction speed.
The beauty here is, once the vacuum is created you can step away. Relax. Get a brewsky. Once in a while give it a few more pumps to keep the vacuum up.
Remember, you are sucking oil through a 3mm tube...that is very small because it had to fit in that dipstick hole. It will take time and not much pumping BUT...because the oil flows slowly through the clear tubing, you will see very little happening. So after 7 to 10 minutes lift the container and see where you are.
This thing is NOT fragile yet if anyone gets worked up about "getting it done now!" then by all means change oil the old way. Pumping too fast or too hard without holding the pump at the connection with the container WILL bust it up for sure. I think that, plus too much pumping to speed things up IS what all the bad reviews are about.
If by any chance you do not reach oil with the sink tube, try twisting it from side to side as you push down.
If on the other hand you pushed all the way in and you don't reach oil...now there's a problem!
When used this way, this extactor will work for you for quite some time. I really like the pour out spout included so, don't leave any oil in your machine. This crank case oil is very detergent to the Sphere's plastic!

I used this product 2 times and when I went to use it a 3rd it failed to work. After carefully inspection I noticed that the seal below the hand pump on reservoir top was ripped. After searching online I found many people have the same exact issue and THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE! DO NOT BUY THIS, SEAL WILL TEAR AND THEN YOU HAVE A NON FUNCTIONAL OIL EXTRACTOR. I emailed customer service but did not receive a response.... Guess they have better things to do then support their products which fail

This whole oil vacuum thing sounded a little funky to me, but decades of crawling under my cars to drain the oil was finally catching up to me, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
The instructions say to run the engine for at least 5 minutes to warm the oil, but I strongly recommend setting up your oil change when you get back from a long drive - your commute, a big box run, etc. Really get the oil up to temperature so that it thins out and is more easily vacuumed out. This is what I did and it worked like a charm. I removed the dipstick and inserted the vacuum tube until it hit the bottom of the oil pan - don't push it any further as it may curl up and not adequately empty the oil pan. I pumped it about 25 times and went and had lunch. When I came back about 20 mins later the oil was mostly removed. I pumped it another 20 times and in about 5 minutes I could hear it sucking air, so I knew I was at the bottom. It easily held 4.5 qt's of oil (the capacity of my car) and had plenty of room for more - another quart at least.
If you're after the quickest oil change possible this won't do it - buy yourself a powered lift, or at least a fancy creeper and do it the old fashioned way. If you have the time to let this oil vacuum do its thing then I couldn't recommend it strongly enough.
Cleanest, easiest oil change of my life. I fully recommend the 6-Liter Hydro-Turf Oil Extractor!

I'm not going to say this item doesn't work, It would be good for things smaller jobs, versus automobiles, That is, if you plan on doing a complete oil change, and not just taking out a small amount of oil if you put too much in.
The problem I have with this, that needs to be redesigned is, the pump does not screw on to the top of the canister, All you do is push the pump on top. The problem with this is, when you pump anything out of it, the pump comes off the top of the canister. You have to hold the pump down with one hand, while you pump with the other.
Why would they not make this so you can screw the pump on top making it a bit more stable. If you wanted to do an oil change with this,it would take forever.
I seldom if ever give a bad review, but the design of this put me over the edge.
Review of HTMOTO Hydro-Turf Oil Extractor 6-Liter OIL01 works great!

HI,
Watched a review on youtube of the HTmoto and liked what I saw.
I was able to extract oil out of a Mercedes GLK250 with this product. Took about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes to get all the oil out. The oil was warm.
I probably should have had to Oil hotter. The temp gauge on the SUV said 55 degrees C.
The black pickup tube goes right down the dip stick hole. The pump on top works great. The unit is simple to use and comes with a pouring spout and a nice lid for the top.
To operate it you take it out of the box. Put the vacuum valve on the top. Put the pump over that. Put the pickup tube in the side.
Put the pick up tube in the oil by putting the pick up tube down the dip stick hole.
Pull the pump up 30 times. That's about it.
Two handed operation. One hand to hold the pump down on the base. The other hand operating the pump handle.
I had to pump the thing up a few times though the 30 minute drain cycle. But it works as advertised. No problems at all.
Nice to NOT get under the SUV for once.

If you can access oil filter from top (ie., Mercedes etc...) and need not get under vehicle and remove yards of plastic shielding (ie., Jetta) this is great product. Clean up is a little tedious but far better than getting under car. The plastic tubing did split from manifold heat over several uses, but a trip to Home Depot should bring me back to ready for next time. Finally, materials are very solid (except tubing but that is plastic and no other material could replace it) so I strongly suggest purchase. Likely next times, I will place rag over where tubing touches hot engine so will last longer. Finally, make sure that in USA you can convert liters to quarts and measuring marks on tank is in liters.
When You Need a Neat Oil Change - Not a Fast One

I love this pump! I bought it for my Yamaha PWC. It works great. I warmed my Yamaha and it pulled out the oil in about 12-15 minutes. These PWC oil changes are really spendy, so it saved me big $$$, Then I was thinking of my other vehicles.
I have a 4x4 Ford truck that holds 6 quarts of oil and due to the height of the oil pan, the hot oil gushes all over the place when you remove the drain plug. I used the extractor and pulled about 5.25 quarts through the dipstick tube. I pulled out the drain plug while holding the drain pan next to the hole. The small amount of oil that remained (I have Automotive OCD so I had to remove all I could) was easily collected without any drama. I saved loads of old newspaper compared to my normal oil change.
As others have said, give it a few extra pumps during the extraction process to move things along.
I now use the extractor for all my oil changes, whether it is a PWC or not. It is not super fast like an open drain hole at the bottom of an oil pan, but the convenience and cleanliness make it easier and much neater.
Worked just as advertised!!

Worked just as advertised! I used this great little gizmo to change the oil in my jetski. The assembly instructions were clear, although most people will not need them because the procedure is intuitive. I inserted the small black hose into the dipstick tube, pumped the ball maybe a dozen times, and watched the oil flow into the ball....slowly. For those of you used to changed the oil by draining from the oil pan, this is a painfully slow procedure. However, it is neat and clean. Every few minutes I gave the ball a few more strokes to maintain a strong vacuum, and maybe 15 minutes later the job was done. The unit appears to be well made and should last many years.
Oil Extractor - 3 stars

This unit works OK. The concept is GREAT. It gets 3 stars as follows: The pump is a total pain in the butt to hold onto the bulbous tank fitting. Yes, I know I could put some jelly or lube or soap or something around the ring to help it seal better, but I shouldn't have to. I have seen competitors' models that have a threaded attachment for the pump handle. The good about the current setup on this item is if the handle gets knocked around, it just falls off. If the unit had a threaded fitting, and it gets knocked around, the handle would most likely break off at the threads or worse, rending the device most likely inoperable. Also, in order to get the fluids out of several generators, air compressors, and lawnmowers, I had to remove the smaller diameter hose from this unit. It sucks just fine now using the larger diameter hose. Again, it should have worked just fine out of the box. I should not have to modify a brand new product. I like the stability of the bulbous design. I like the ability to pour the oil right back out the hole it came in once the siphon tube is removed. If I had it to do all over again, tho, I would buy something different. It DOES work, but it could be better.
Skip this tool unless you have no alternative

Great concept but flawed execution. It would literally take hours to remove all 7 liters of oil from my BMW 3.0L I6 engine. It doesn't matter if the oil is 70°F or 210°F. The extraction is SLOW. That's assuming the vacuum remained constant. It doesn't. I have to go back to the extractor and pump some more every 10 minutes or so. Otherwise the flow of oil will stop.
The pump doesn't secure to the tank so you'll have to hold it with one hand while pumping with the other. This makes it difficult to adjust the tube to get the oil flowing.
I wanted to like this extractor since changing the oil on my Audi is annoying (one has to remove a plastic splash shield underneath the car to get to the oil drain plug). Still, the extractor is so slow I can perform several oil changes "the old fashioned way".
