Seriously people read the instructions!!!!by Scotty D. (5 out of 5 stars)

While it is possible for you to get bad one, that can happen with any product. Mine came to me 100% awesome. Seriously though read the instructions it takes at least three hours for these to get going, it's not going to instantly melt. It uses a low wattage bulb to heat up the coil and melt. If you get it and the wax is coned on the top, and you see a metal spiral ring in it, you need to flip this until it's at the bottom. This is what the bulb heats up. Eventually it melts the wax but it will take probably about three hours. It is worth it. I got the purple and blue one for about seven dollars this is an amazing deal since back in the day they were $50. Stop leaving reviews when you have no clue how to use things. Stop reviewing because you didn't bother looking it up or reading the instructions. This one works great!!!!
Disappointed with a cloudy lamp
by Chad Johnson (1 out of 5 stars)

I recently had an older lava lamp I had purchased give out on me and decided to get one to replace it. I'm a bit disappointed with what showed up at my door. I received one that has cloudy water when it should be clear. I've never had one arrive cloudy before, so it's a bit disheartening. See the black wax lamp in my picture.
I look forward to the replacement coming and hope that I can change this review to say I received a good product.
EDIT: Okay, so I received the second one. It too is CLOUDY! The seller should change the title of this item from Lava Lite 2116 14.5-Inch Classic Silver-Based Lava Lamp, Black Wax/Clear Liquid.to Lava Lite 2116 14.5-Inch Classic Silver-Based Lava Lamp, Black Wax/CLOUDY Liquid. Seriously, I understood one lamp, but two!? I lowered my score just because of this incompetence, add to the fact that the packaging on this lamp was allowing the lamp to slam around within the box (no bubble wrap to protect it or keep it stationary).
I will never purchase another lava lamp from this seller, EVER AGAIN. I gave them a chance to make it right and they failed to produce. Instead, I'm getting a refund and will spend my money on other products that come as advertised. NEVER AGAIN Lava Lite!
Liquid faded after less than 3 months

It was a lovely lava lamp, until the purple liquid faded and turned yellowish clear. Now instead of having a lava lamp with purple liquid and yellow lava, the whole thing is yellow... :/ And of course it happened less than 3 months after purchase, but too late to return.
HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARD

First, Amazon has lumped together all reviews for all products made by this manufacturer, which prevents us - the consumers who trust this customer rating system - from making good decisions. Notice that all the 4 & 5 stars are either clearly manufacturer-planted reviews (non-verified purchaser recommending other products by name) or reviews of products that are NOT lava lamps (such as the "tornado" and "glitter" lamps made by the Lava Lite company that appear - on the basis of reviews - to actually work). Virtually all of the reviews of this product - lava lamps with the moving wax - have 1 & 2 stars, with people repeatedly reporting even replacements not to work. The overall rating for this product is skewed by Amazon wrongly lumping all of these products, so that we are given the false impression that a clearly defective product functions.
Second, and more importantly, please see the photo below (don't know why it is sideways): I carefully followed all user instructions. I used the bulb provided and a standard electrical outlet. I never moved the product while it was warm. I made sure it had settled from shipping for hours before turning it on. Every instruction was followed. I used the lava lamp once and it seemed ok at first. But after only 2-3 hours (the warm-up time; instructions say it's ok to run it for 8-10 hours) all of the wax congealed at the top. I looked at the Lava Lite website and it said that this was a sign that it was over-heating, so I turned it off (there's no thermostat, just "on" or "off"). I let it cool off, unused and unmoved, for a whole day. The second time I plugged it in, after only 1.5 hours or so, this (the photo here) is what happened. The metal heating element (which is not even attached to the bottom of the globe) turned red hot, as did the wax, and started floating upward. Had this product been left on much longer, the globe - which is only "sealed" shut with a bottle top akin to a Pepsi bottle (the silver cap on top isn't even attached; it just sits there on top of the bottle cap) - would have exploded open from the heat, blowing hot oil and wax (the lava lamp contents) everywhere.
I use Amazon Prime regularly, and I really do not appreciate Amazon sending to my home a product that is clearly universally defective and that very easily could have, as the photo below demonstrates, caused serious injury to people in my home. This product is not only defective. It is a serious health and safety hazard, and Amazon is irresponsible to be selling it. This danger has been made clearly known to Amazon from the many other product reviews posted to this site and Amazon continues to sell it anyway. This is not a safe product to bring into your home.
Get back into the groove

My 12 year old son has always loved blue-colored lighting and for years, I wanted to get him the blue/white Lava Lamp. I grew up with the red version and know how awesome they were.
I never pulled the trigger due to the negative reviews and chance that I'd get one that was fatally flawed. After exhausting many other options, this Christmas I decided to get one and buy it early, so I could at least have another roll of the dice and return it with minimal hassle due to the way I've been treated as a Prime subscriber.
Long story short(er): this is exactly the Lava Lamp I remember. The bulb came with a broken filament, but that have may been due to the Holiday Delivery Zoo.
Tip- Order when it's cooler, if you can. I live in the desert and the "do not shake" warnings surely would seem to imply that when the wax is soft due to heat. The wax should look hard and like a trapezoidal puck. I can only imagine if I ordered and it were 120F out, the wax would get soft and jostled around, possibly ruining the item.
At this cost (@$15?), if Amazon will make it right and allow you to return it, I 100% recommend this Lava Lamp. Five stars because it's awesome.
I have ZERO connections to any businesses and just want to help someone who is on the fence like I was for years to have more confidence... perfectly functioning units are out there.
It's got to be more than "bad luck"

I read the bad reviews on here and none of them really had any detailed negative experience. So here is mine which will hopefully let someone know the risk that you will be exposed to when purchasing one of these.
*I also have another lava lamp that works for a good comparison to eliminate any mistakes on my part.*
Upon opening the box with the lamp in it I was created with some "how to use" instructions. It says that it could take up to 4-6 hours to work. That immediately let me know that some people giving bad reviews on here weren't patient because I read a lot of them saying that they only turned it on for 2.
The first time I turned it on (with a red one I have at the *same time* - it turned into one of those frozen statue looking blobs after about 2.5 hours (that scared me from seeing that issue in the reviews). I then proceeded to let it continue heating based on the instructions. That around the 6 hour mark it actually had become more fluid and was two giant blobs that wouldn't really float up. It was a valiant effort though for the lava lamp; I will give it that at least.
At this point I have tried to use it 5 times. Each time I have left it running for a minimum of 8 hours each night and check it before I sleep and in the morning. The lamp has a giant blob at the bottom that doesn't move but looks a like it wants to but the surface tension and the density of the liquid is too high and makes it sit tight right at the bottom of the lamp. Then there is a little tiny bit that has somehow managed to float to the top (must have done it while I was sleeping because I have not recorded any movement). Anyways....it's a dud. I wish it worked. I will be returning it. I really did give it a fair chance.
I think I will find one that a shop has that is working and offer them money for it haha.
****The two blue lamp photos are of my chance that I gave the lamp to redeem itself (at the eight hour mark after being turned on). One photo shows the dud and the lamp that works and both were turned on at the same time.
FIRE & SEVERE BURN HAZARD!!!!!

If I could leave no stars, I would. Other this package was delivered to me damaged, I chose to give it a try because the item appeared to be intact & working. Unfortunately only after a few days of use, the lamp malfunctioned & caused my young niece 2nd & 3rd° burns on her hands from touching it even though she had just turned it on. I have had LavaLamps my entire adult life with no trouble. This could've been a fire that killed my family and now someone I dearly love you trusted me has been hurt.
All she wanted was a lava lamp for her birthday. I feel responsible but, technically, this is not my fault.
Amazon, you can't just sell any item without ensure it is 100% safe and delivered 100% safe. I received a refund but I have lost my faith in Amazon forever.
Proper lava lamp; does what it's suppose to

I'd like to start by saying I was beyond hesitant to order this lava lamp due to all of the negative reviews. I am unsure as to if those others received a faulty lamp, I can only speak for my experience. Was my birthday week and wanted to treat myself.
I received the item with a slightly bent rim, where the base of the lamp sits. Fixed it with some gentle hand reshaping. The item's packing was good and secure, most importantly the bulb was safely packed covered by the top of the lava lamps cap inside the base of the lamp.
I've had lava lamps in my past and had always just plugged them in and let them do their thing! This time I did briefly skim through the single page instructions provided. As I remembered, very simple instructions.
Photos are attached; in chronological order ......first picture is about an hour after initial plug in, second photo about another hour in, third pic... 3-4hours heated up, and so on and so forth....
The lava flows great once it's nice and hot. Maybe some minor cloudlyness in the liquid during the initial first warm up, zero cloudlyness since.
After leaving the lamp on for about 8hours, it was off overnight.
The video was recorded on the second day, after about 2 different warm ups that day; meaning the lamp was on 2-3hours then off 5 hours and then re- heated 2-3hours. Frequent use of the lamp will help the lava flow nicely.
The lamp is silver base, purple liquid and white lava. The description is true to it's claims; the video appears a darker liquid, which is not validate and happened due to the off focus of the camera during recording. See other attached photo for true color :)
Last video is a sped up version just for fun.
Overall, you get what you pay for. This is a proper working lava lamp, and I would purchase more in my further and recommend to fam/friends.
4 stars due to slightly bent rim on delivery
I will update review if the lamp shall malfunction/break in the near future!
Nothing like a real lava lamp .... NOTHING
by Shawn (1 out of 5 stars)

Oh my where do I start ... Can I just say really bad execution on a classic? Ok.. I opened the box ( nice box) my first thought after looking at the lamp was ooooookay. This looks cloudy. I heated it up via the stainless painted plastic mount .. 4 hours later it BARELY moves though the cloudy fluid ... Water I suspect. ... The base is all plastic painted silver to look like metal, the glass is filled with a cloudy water like fluid I guess with a bottle cap and a metal top cone shaped cover. This thing is HORRIBLE!! The bulb runs so hot it probably will run me more in electric than to buy a new one every month. It cost me 12.00 dollars. I am throwing it in he trash in the morning. It is literally junk.
Why and how they sell these is beyond me. It is literally NOTHING LIKE A LAVA LAMP ORIGINAL... Nothing
Amazon... Keep my 12 bucks... ... But please ... Get rid of this seller ... It is giving you a bad rep..:) peace
